Although less auspiciously than that of Knight, a duel between the amazing and benevolent Mahayr against the eloquent poet of dark and gothic imagery, SemiSuidical!

This duel will be in free verse, with the theme of "audiences"

I expect great imagery from you both!

Also, if the poetry is not up by 6m est, than it will have to wait for judging until after my exam tomorrow, as I will be studying most of the day..and then writing.

Mine will not be up by tonight as I am out of town and do not have my own computer. I do have the piece in hard copy, and will be editing as I can find free time, should be easy enough to do haha. I am at the office right n ow, going back to the house in a couple of hours, I think. I will get on from there. I will do my utmost to have it up sometime in the morning... but even that is iffy. Doctor appointment at 2, hopefully riding in the morning. Then the bus, a 12 hour trip, back home on Wednesday morning, tired. So, honestly, it will probably not be before Wednesday night/Thursday sometime.

I am sorry for the delay on my end, and hugely looking forward to the whole thing!

Fear entwined itself in my every thought.
The pressure of it squeezed tight against my consciousness
What was I going to do?
The fear reminded me again of its presence,
Sending a shiver down my limbs.
I took a deep breath, or attempted to.
I tried to block the paralyzing fear,
The fear that was keeping my mouth clamped shut,
That was causing the sweat to bead on my forehead.
I closed my eyes against the bright lights that shone from above.
How ironic that there be a light from above,
At a time like this when I was sure hell must already have me.
I opened my eyes again and looked before me.
I saw nothing, blocking it all out.
I stared at nothingness as I finally began.
“It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee…”
I had rehearsed this, I knew it.
I just had to let the words flow like they usually did.
I couldn’t allow the audience freeze me so.
Those beautiful words, that story.
I reiterated the words that so many before had
And I finally was fearless.
The light was now a glow that accented my words,
The onlookers were still absent, but I knew someone was listening.
The fact that I was alone in my world but surrounded,
All at once was overwhelming in a beautiful way.

It looks like I will be judging this tomorrow in the evening (whenever Mahayr posts, given I am done my examination on Canadian Identity).

Semi, would you be so kind as to remove the alignment and colour out of the poem (unless of course, you believe it adds to it). Due to my immense studying, I've been getting terrible migraines and centre alignment isn't helping. It wont affect my judging, if you're worried. If anything, it'll help wink

..I should also include that in my bio. (ahem: In regards to presentation, Seraphly prefers cleanly written poetry, without font or alignment changes, unless it furthers the theme and depth of the written piece.)
