Welcome to Gaia! ::

So...I posted one of my poems to the forum (one that was VERY well-liked by my Professor from last semester and a fair crop of my friends) and it's been getting terrible ratings.

All of the "high-rated" poems I've seen are "rhymy" (if you will) and rather trite. (Which is not to say that mine is amazing...it's just not in the standard ABAB-blah-blah form.)

Do people have issues with more imaginative form?
Can you please post your poem and let me read it?

I know there are things I can definitely fix about it (i.e., the capitalized front lines and some of the chopped-off parts) but I still think it's decent. The ratings have gone up a bit, so maybe I'm just hallucinating.

And sorry about my first post being a little whiny, lol...i wasn't in an amazing mood concerning it, haha cat_sweatdrop

I really don't like poetry. I think it's because most of it's not like THAT. That flowed really well, had great imagery and I could tell you weren't trying so hard you verged on a self-inflicted aneurysm.

Particularly fond of that line.

I wouldn't be too worried about what people on the internet think about your poetry.

I like that style of writing; when I write poetry (which is rarer these days), that's the style I write in, too. I don't mind poetry with a rhyming scheme, but I don't always do it, either, as I find unless it's really good, it feels juvenile.
i think i like your poetry. u could teach me to write poetry one day too

Just because an authoritative figure says something is good doesn't make it absolutely good.

Triple post! xd

If you didn't notice, she knows it's not perfect. But it's polished, at least.
You will be glad to know that most "serious" poets each have their own creative style. There are more free form poets today than there have ever been and writing a poem in standard rhythmic form is hard to find these days. Atleast, really good ones, that aren't over done. Just keep doing what you are doing - it's your creative lisence for a reason.

There's no accounting for the taste on Gaia. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
