An EXCELLENT resource to find a publisher and/or an agent is to go and get a copy of the Writer's Market. The full copy runs for about $30, and the deluxe is $50, but you don't necessarily need the full copy. I looked through it and realized that not only does it give markets for novels and short stories, but it also gives markets for things like poetry and magazine articles, which I know I'm not going to write, at least not this year (there's a new edition each year). So I just got the Novel and Short Story Writer's Market instead. If you want to save some money, try to find an edition that caters specifically to what you write. But you should get some edition of the Writer's Market if you really are serious about getting published.

Where is a good site to post a story?

I'm not looking to get published... just looking for a site (similiar to fictionpress in type) to post stories. Any places other than ff.net or fictionpress would be helpful.

Deviantart.com lets you post stories.

This is a great thread with good tips, but I have a Favorites section crammed with writing sites, and to be honest I never use them. Writing isn't about surfing sites all day looking for hints; it's actually putting in the time and effort to practice.

IF you plan on being published, I really suggest not posting your work online...I don't think you would get it published then. How would you prove it was yours? Yes, people can comment on it and such, but don't post the entire thing online..maybe a chapter here and there..or just show close friends.

^_^ This was very helpful.

Aaaand, Mystic Blossom, your Tarja siggeh is teh lovely :3

Actually I think you can, since there are certain things you can do, like emailing the work to yourself or mailing it and then leaving the envelope sealed.

I just wanted to say that penguin books are accepting unsolicited manuscripts. And also the site www.agentquery.com is a great place to find agents with wonderful links as well.

Your advice and effort has helped me to create an awesome story. razz
But I dont think it'll ever be revised and re-done enough times to ever get published. crying So...
Anyways, I'm buying a book making kit so I can make a leather bound book to dedicate to my family and friends. And to the people that have helped me get so far in my writing experiences.

Okay, I have a problem, I only have a couple things I can use to make my book, the computor and the writing program. I'll get done with my book in about 4 months tops, but when I'm done with it, where and how can I get an editor to edit it and a publisher to publish it?

I wanted to ask about this, as well.

If I wanted to share my poetry and a site stipulates that it "has not appeared elsewhere on the Internet," does that mean "at all" or "in another published source"?

Also, what kinds of things are you looking to include in the poetry post of this thread? I can try to whip up a summary of the "Guide to the Art of Poetry" sticky from the OP/L, if that will help.

I believe that if you go through an Agent, they have editors that will help you edit your story. As far as *just* an editor, I haven't seen a list for those (though I have hardly looked).

A long chapter in my life is closed and behind me
A new one has already opened before me
The path is new and strange to me
But I will endure
I always do

I took a brief look through agentquery.com and it looks like a very helpful place. Thanks for the great link!

Don't bump. This is a sticky. It's always at the top of the page, no matter what.

Here's a link to a site on how to create a http://ks.essortment.com/creatingcharact_rtsl.htm , which I thought might be helpful.

I have a question I saved some articles I found but not the link, can I just post the article on here and then someone could move it to the correct section or would I pm someone and send it to them?
