I suppose i wouldn't want my kids to read anything where the author is not hell bent on converting them, I want them to read things that make them think and give them entertainment but if an author has an ulterior motive Im done.

Theres a difference between symbolism (say...C.S Lewis and christianity) and Pullman (Im going to do this and this to the minds of children)


However, I would just love my children to read and enjoy it.

Because I've been really sheltered, I wouldn't disallow my future kids from reading anything; I might encourage them to read classic lit, and other "good" books, but if they wanted to read something I didn't like, I would let them. I don't even think I would scan for stuff that isn't age appropriate(except swearing; I can't tolerate swearing).

Although I'm agnostic, I would definitely encourage them to read the bible and the Qu'ran and other holy books.

Anything that's sexual I wouldnt let a very young kid read, but any amount of violence is actually fine. They don't actually see it they just think it and eventually they're going to get introduced to the cruelties of what really goes on. Why not let them learn instead of blocked from it al together.
