If you know of another more successful version of this would you direct me towards it please? Thanks.

Oh, also if you think this is in the wrong category and know where it should go, tell me?

Welcome to The Super Informal Roleplay Think Tank, the place that isn't really a roleplay and mostly a think tank.

Purpose:

I intend for this to basically be a place where you can just bounce around your plot ideas or your character with other people in the roleplay style as sort of a test drive.

Alternatively this is a good spot for any one who just wants to roleplay extremely casually or for any one who just wants to practice roleplaying (like maybe a 'newbie').

In an actual roleplay I'm ruthless about continuity and coming up with good material - but here I will force myself not to care! I don't want any disclaimers like, 'sorry this post sucks' because you don't need to be sorry. Here you have every right to suck.

There is no ultimate plot, no profiles, no pressure. Everyone has the right to opt out of any roleplay instance at any moment, but please tell whoever you're with that you want out before you ditch 'em.

How it works:

1. State what you want! Do it as a shout post or in bold red too so that people notice it. To expand your character, Bob Joe; to test your latest roleplay or story idea - a bunch of kids at an orphanage discover demonic faeries in the backyard of their compound; even to test run your new anti-godmodding battle rules to see if there are any loop holes.

Example:
Quote:
Yo! I just made this new character called Bob Joe and uh... basically all he has so far is a name and appearance. I want to have him interact with some one just so I can get a feel for his personality.

2. Wait for a bite - or go around biting people. Have a brief or long discussion about what you want out of it - see if they have any suggestions, fine tune the idea as much as you like before jumping in - or don't tune it at all. Set down any rules or conditions you may have.

Example:
Quote:
Hey, I'd be glad to help you work on Bob Joe. I have a kind of new character who I want to have talk with some one too. Do you want to do it like... with an actual setting and stuff like a time period and a specific kind of city or should they just be sitting at some random bar and we'll work it out as we go along?

^ Feel free to do it however you can think of, this is totally free-style.
Quote:
*walks up and pokes Bob Joe in the stomach*

^ is also acceptable, unless stated otherwise by the requestee.

3. Roleplay it. Give your test a title and put it over your all subsequent RPing posts - all participants must do that as well. So that if there are multiple tests running at once there isn't confusion. You actually don't have to if just discussion is good enough for you, but then why come here instead of any other think tank??

Example:
Quote:
"Slice of life but of an Amish colony"

Blah blah blah roleplaying blah blah blah.

4. Feel free to take a break at any point to discuss any changes you want to make - 'Can we do that over? I just decided I want Bob Joe to be a hair dresser instead of a lumberjack.' 'There should be a pool in this house.'

5. Finish it. That's enough. I got what I wanted, I'm bored, I'm scrapping this idea, I'm gonna go make this into a thread now - whatever.

'Rules'

You may not hound some one for leaving your roleplay test drive. They have a right to leave you. Any guilt tripping or complaining will be considered harassment.

Of course, any idea stealing without obtaining the permission of whoever you got it from is wrong.

Don't be a critic unless you're asked for your opinion. Bubble poppers will be prosecuted for souring the brainstorming creativity juice.

Try not to be a stickler about little details. Save that for a finished product.

Keep it PG-13.

I won't force you to, but I encourage correct grammar and spelling. They aren't just for stuck-ups, they serve a purpose. If you don't believe me read "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves." If you don't understand that book I suggest you approach your English teacher, search the internet or take night classes.
Sink or swim time.

What about worlds? Can I have help developing a world?
Sure thing! Let's hear more about it.

I'm wondering how to adapt a world to a gaia rp and I could use help both in making parts of the world more unique and how to make it fit for an rp.

It's a different world than ours, no magic, and the tech cap is around 1450 (Europe). Simple background is there are two versions of one religion and the small villages wage war over this. Three villages to the east are allied while the three villages to the west are just neutral with each other at the moment. The plays start in the village of Teteven, either has a side who has recently conquered it, or those who have just been taken over (depending on the side they choose).
Alright, so 1450 was just before the Renaissance, right?

Your last sentence about Teteven really confused me - could you rephrase it please?

Yes, that's the tech cap.

About the city: That's where everyone starts. You are either part of those that just recently took over, or those who have recently been conquered (depending on which version of the religion you choose).

Oh, okay. Gotcha.

So I'm guessing the genre is going to be war / political? And do you have specific plans for the village, like, is there ultimately going to be a a rebellion, is the side that previously had it going to reclaim it, etc?

That's the general theme. Whether the people leave, rebel, or try to discuss things I think I should leave up to the players. Gaia rp can be varied, so if someone wants to do star-crossed lovers or the dynamic between a commander and a common soldier, I won't exclude those (though I feel I should be picky about handing out higher ranks when it comes to rps).

A good idea about the ranks. Alright, so then what else did you want to expound upon about it?

Should I expand upon the geography or not? I want this to be a very 'normal' world despite how primitive it is.

I would say definitely, if people have the option to leave they'll need both a destination and perhaps some obstacles they'll have to tread through to get there. Although I don't know if leaving sounds like a great option because then that'll spread out the players quite a bit.
This is definitely an intriguing kind of thread you've got here. Good luck w/ it! I'll stop on by if I ever need to. 4laugh

Yeah, I'm not sure how I'm going to handle that yet.
