Welcome to Gaia! ::

In answer to the second question...

"Poor private Jimmy was the last one to go. Tex walked right up to him, ripped his skull right out of his head, and beat him to death with it."
"Wait. She pulled his skull out of his head and beat him with it? That doesn't seem physically possible."
"That's exactly what Jimmy kept screaming."

Not an answer, really.

Actual answer:

Maybe blood loss would have something to do with it. Reasonably sure blunt impact would cave the skull in, possibly crushing sections of the brain. She wouldn't live long, I'd give it ten seconds at most. And I'm being an optimist here.

EDIT: Those ten seconds would be spent either unconscious or screaming and unable to actually dig around in her brain.

OKAY Question two:
A scene will soon take place in which a woman tries to open up her own skull.
I plan on her beating her head off of the ground until the skull cracks. Then, digging into her brain. I'm sure she wouldn't live long, but how long do you think she'd have? And, is this possible?

I'm pretty sure she would knock herself unconscious, so she wouldn't be able to dig into her brain.

Not possible - she'd beat herself unconscious. I'd recommend outside implements of destruction - drill, screwdriver, or saw. If she's all hopped up and crazy, it might take her long enough to pass out to do it.

99% positive on that too. A small note though, the brain is the only part of the body that does not have pain sensors so if someone has their skull open and someone pokes around in their brain, they will not feel the sensation of anything touching their brain.

Ooh... speaking as someone studying psychology and neurology, I'm 99% sure she'd knock herself unconscious before she could proceed- With hard impacts, the brains' natural cushioning mechanism of the cerebral fluids aren't going to be enough to prevent sufficient addling of the cerebrum to let her maintain consciousness.

She'd have better luck using something to cut into her skull- a drill of some sort?

Hmm. How long do you think it would take to drill into the skull?
See, there's a person going to try to stop her attempts...

Using a regular screwdriver? Five, ten minutes, I would say.

Using a power drill? About five seconds, maybe less. Depends on speed setting.
Sounds hot.

Come on. Someone had to do it.

It seems that the drill would make quite a small hole though >< Then again I'm not entirely sure on drill bit sizes and whatnot.

Mmm, power tools.

Look up trepanning. It might be helpful.

Just 'cause I'm curious, why is she trying to open her skull?

Depends on the drill. If it's a power tool of some kind... probably not too long. If we're talking a hand-cranked one or something like that, considerably longer- If you want her to pull this off, I'd go for something quick and dirty, because otherwise she'll probably be stopped first- A powerful hand-drill could work. A chisel-shaped attachment, I'm thinking, might have the best results. Again... not an expert, but I'm pretty sure they use a winding implement for surgery so I imagine it's the most effective way to penetrate the thick bones of the skull.

A bigger drill bit size might have a chance of cracking the surrounding bone if she goes at it roughly, but I'm not completely sure about the composition of living bone matter. Dead bone is a different story, I'm quite sure you can crack that much easier. Not much help for you though.

Because she's been kidnapped by people who like to torture people, and a small device is implanted in the brains of certain people so that if they're away from their 'owner' too long the device activates, and causes malfunctions in their brain and makes them go crazy and hurt them selves...and she becomes aware of the device in her brain.

In regards to the second question, unless she's being controlled by some otherworldly force, she'd go unconscious before she could do so. And drill or no, even if she did manage to crack the actual skull, I'm assuming she isn't a professional and is likely to cause brain damage that would impair her from going on.
