Hello. My character is 438 years old. He has since changed his name, but he needs a birth name. What names were popular in 1584?
The most common mens names in the time period you have indicated were:
John 29%
Thomas 14%
William 14%
Richard 7%
Robert 6%
Henry 3%
Nicholas 3%
Edward 2%
Walter 2%

Other common names included: Christopher, Arthur, Charles, Alexander, Luke, Michael, Roger and Edmund.

Hope that helps! smile

I might as well ask:

I am writing a sailormoon fanfic and names tend to have meanings to them. I'm bad at names with meanings.

I've gone through baby name lists and nothing was really interesting to me when I looked. Can anyone suggest a Korean male first name along with ti's meaning?

Well, I will have to play the devil's advocate and say that having the last name of Dresden isn't terribly common--or I just haven't come across it ever really.

It's a real, common name.

It's not usual for English, but it's still not a totally weird name. It also works perfectly with Harry's culture.

The name Deepali Kapur sounds weird to us English speakers, but it's normal in Northern India.

Okay, common for Germany. THAT I get. I was thinking that it might be common for someone living in Germanic areas.

It's common for England, which Germany conquered.

I just wonder how common it is nowadays.

It'd be about as common as London as a last name. They'er both English cities people are named after, since people were named after where they (o, by now, their ancestors) were from

I need a royal title/rank for my elfin matriarchy. It has to have a strong female connotation as men don't have any power in this society. Females vie for power by trying to impress the ruler or those the ruler likes through and kind of manipulation possible. The only way to becoem the new ruler, however, is dead man's boots.

Would a mash-up of "death by woman" or "death by female" in Latin work?
Using a translator site (me + Latin = No.), there's "mortem per feminam", so something like the "Mornam" or "Morpenam"?

It sounds more like a name than a title, but that's not to say I don't want to use it for a character.

"Fatal Female (more or less) To make into more of a title, just ad La"
"Lady of the Red/Black Death".

Not sure how 'death' became obligatory in the title. Is there something like 'fickle queen of favors'or something?

Oh, woops, I was just going off of what that other person was going for. Fickle Queen of Favors? Or something about them just being bitter, fiendish, or cruel?

More the former. She's fickle and always needs favors for you to stay in her entourage. Without them, she either hates you or forgets your exist.
