Welcome to Gaia! ::

Need an idea for the 4th chapter of my story. I need a name for the race that I created specifically for this story. They are not known to regular humans and only appear to those who have a special ability, are in pain or suffering or even both.

Their true form is horrifying (bloodshot eyes, deformed limbs, etc.) and those who can see them, they are mostly seen as humans and they feast on human pain and suffering but also on good memories. This is so they can drain humans of what was good and bad in their life so they'll only focus on them.

I was thinking of Dream Eaters at first, but that sounded too bland. Any ideas?

My story takes place on a pseudo-Europe continent. The tech level ranges from (more or less) form 432 to 1450, depending on the towns. I'm thinking of naming the towns (there are no countries; the only divisions are over religion) after ancient European Gods form Basque, Celtic, Slavic, and Nordic languages.

Would that make sense as a naming scheme?

I have a world where not only do cultures find words perfectly acceptable as names, but different cultures are influenced by different earth cultures. For instance, the name Sonneabdrücken wouldn't be strange to them (if they lived where Germany had influence).

I tend to just use dictionaries for these names, but I cannot find a dictionary for Korean, Russian, or Arabic (that translates to the alphabet I use). If anyone has one, it would be greatly appreciated.
My Story will be about War,Blood,Death. Taken Place in 1879 with lots of death traps fighting and beating a lovely girl who wants to know the secret of her father is a devil but she is the key of heaven

sometimes completely different names can be jarring, but interesting. for example, Inna means 'water" but there's a book called Inna Burning, and Inna "speaks the fire tongue." threw me for a loop for a while....

So they work when they're symbolic?

Well, I don't know if the author knew what "Inna" meant- I guess you shouldn't match names just by meaning, but you probably shouldn't match a charachter with a completely opposite name if that's not the effect you want. I think that made no sense- blame the toast. it's distracting me.
Okay, a few months ago I asked for a site that gave me the ages of names, and somebody gave me the link of this excellent site with which you can type in a name and it tells you the popularity over the years.

So, for the name Sadie (which I was given the link for), it gives you a graph that shows the name Sadie was very popular in the early 20th century.

I've looked through the last ten pages or so but I just can't find it. Help?

EDIT: Found it. For those curious, it's http://www.babynamewizard.com/voyager#

Well, if you're dividing up your world into towns, and the religions are based off of religious views held in each language area, then it makes perfect sense.

Yeah, I was going to recommend either searching on the first page for the main post with the links or searching through your post history.

I have to agree that dream eaters sounds forced and I think it implies something else. I have a few suggestions.
dzriaker(s) - its Armenian for parasite
Kiseichū - Japanese for parasite
You could also take these words and use them as a base but alter them to be more fitting I tried to look around but nothing else jumped out at me I could help more If I knew where your story takes place.

I thought I could add a site name you can put up there that's also perfect for people to use when it comes to names. It's better used for foreign names, but still works well.

www.20000-names.com

NVM..The site isn't working for me for some reason
