I'm trying to come up with an original name for my Underworld type place. Ghosts, shades, and other creatures of the like live here, and I've been having difficulty naming it. Any suggestions?

Subletum (sub-letum) means "under death" in latin. smile

My problem: Any name that sounds like 'Pyre?'

Along with problem, I want to know what people think about a girl with white hair named Frost.

At your first one: I would go with Nathaniel/it's Feminine variant if you're going for a fire motif (Nathaniel being the Angel of Fire). Blatantly meaningful names only really work well in the last name, otherwise it feels contrived and far too convenient.

Which leads me to your second query: No. It's a horrible name for a girl in general. Why on earth would a parent name their daughter that? Frost is a surname - and comes off very contrived in that it is just TOO obvious. Even if it's an ironic name, just no.

Problem I see here is that you're trying to take an Asian style pun - that a character's signature X happens to share a kanji/symbol/whatever with a character in the character's given name - and make it work in English.

It doesn't. At all.

Thanks all around.

It still hurts the brain and is hard to say in one go.

Hmmm. I'd go with very conventional names (Maria, Johnathan), but not too modern (Jennifer wouldn't work). 'Victoria' was popular back then.

Dear mods, please take note that posts are easy to misinterpret, so I wish to tell you now that I do not post about threads being in the wrong forum.

I'd stick to standard 1800's names. It also would depend on what class she was in.

If I named a good character Daemian, would people think he's evil or are people not as dumb as Gaia makes me think?

Ok, so I have the full name of my first OC down; I love it and I'm not changing it. But now I need help figuring out at least the first name of my second OC.

My first OC, the female is:
Cassee [protector of mankind, greek] Marie [varient of Mary meaning star of the sea in latin, though Marie has French origins] Haven [safe place, english]

My second OC is meant to be a male, and essentially will end up as Cassee's best friend, then boyfriend, fiance, ect.
Which flows better with Cassee? [this would be a first name]
Titus [unknown meaning, latin]
Tevin [beautiful at birth, Gaelic]

If neither really go, then if you could suggest something that does, that'd be great! thank you!

Nope. Cassee means the same thing. I looked it up a long time ago. Even if it changed, I'm not worried about it.

Many names in sci-fi-fantasy are an alternate spelling of a common name today; i.e. Kevin=Keighvyn, etc. For gosh sakes read if youplan to write!
