any tips on how to get past 500 words without deleting it all and starting over again?

Try starting it right in the middle of the action, and going from there. If it's the fact that a boring or hard to write beginning is what's stopping you, that should help.

You could also try the technique of not rereading what you've written until the rewrite. That way, no matter how bad the stuff you write is, you just get the basic bones of the story down before you edit?

It's what I do, and often the stuff is fairly decent. XP

On another note: 14.5k on the novel now. Yay. : D
