((I remember an incident in middle school that fits that trope well. A girl I knew got caught with a big bag of cocaine in her locker. She was arrested or something similar (whatever happened, she was in a lot of trouble), and we had to go to an assembly to talk about how bad drugs are. It turned out it was actually a bag of
Kool-aid powder not mixed with anything. Maybe that's why I find Mistaken For Junkie funny.))
((Uh...what's Kool-Aid? I'm English/British.))
A sugary-powder you mix with water and drink to get a sugar high.
((Hippies *cough*KenKesey*cough* also mix LSD in it so they can get a real high.))
Technology is always evil, never mind the fact that your MC drives a sports car/Hummer and has cool cell phones and whatnot.
((Don't forget cultists!
But that's depressing... We don't want to talk about cultist Kool-aid.))
Technology is bitter about being used to destroy the environment without anyone asking
it's feelings in the matter.
And Nature is always pure and helpful and loving. I mean, who ever heard of nature being destructive?
What did you say? Hurricanes? Tornadoes? Earthquakes? Tsunamis? Natural Climate Change? Oh, that. Those are just instances of when Mother Nature was upset at humans and our technology. If we disappeared, those things would never happen ever again.

Extreme cultist beliefs are fine if the followers listen to the MC. We call them 'love' and 'leadership'.
But even the most doubting of evil minions is a radical. He can't ever be convinced any other way and will always die for his evil master.
Villainous henchmen always believe in their master's cause. they're never in it just for the money, or don't know any other way of living besides obeying the big bad. You're either pure evil or on the good side, period.
