No, no, no! Girls can have manly jobs, but they have to be a**-ugly and have a billion piercings and talk like some really old woman with smoker's cough.

Or, they have to be puny but badass in all regards. More so than everybody else in the story but your MC.

If you want to seem like a forward-thinker who believes tha women are superior equal to men, then you should always give your female lead a job that generally females would not, or do not have....Female samurai, female knights, female cops...stuff that is male dominated. And ALWAYS make them angst and get picked on to absurd levels by their male coworkers EVEN THOUGH they're obviously the best at what they do anyway.

Remember: Demon and daemon are the same thing. Daemon has NOTHING to do with a personification of your conscience.

When using spirit animals, just toss something in that looks cool.
It requires no research on your part.

The only animals worth usiang are wolves, foxes, bears, tigers, lions, panthers, eagles, and deer. Weasels? Evil. Frogs? Suck. Kingfishers? Don't exist.

Rodents are for the crazy happy annoying girl, spies, or traitors.

Fish aren't spirit animals 90% of the time, and if they are, a female gets one.

Dogs - If you want a military theme, I guess.

Cats - insta- awesome. Because everyone loves cats, right? ((I don't. o.O ))

((Kangaroo rats are the s**t. I fell in love with the little guys the first time I saw them on Animal Planet several years ago.))

When it comes to animals, only certain animals can be good or bad. The bad guy must always own a cat. The only dogs that can be on the bad guy's side are the "evil" breeds like pit bulls, bull dogs, and rotweillers. ((baby rotties are ADORABLE, by the way)) They CAN have wolves, but it's not recommended, and the wolves they have must be black. Same goes for horses. Ugly creatures like trolls and ogres are automatically bad. Pretty = good

Also, your hero can never have a "normal" pet. They should only have mythical creatures like dragons or flying horses, or exotic animals like wolves and tigers. And no one will get on their a** for owning these large, exotic, and potentially dangerous animals. Any mainstream pets must have magical powers and should probably have the ability to talk to make up for their normal-ness. Which reminds me, it's perfectly okay to make up words for the narrative ((not referring to any original language one may make up)) and expect the reader to know what they mean. Also, it totally makes sense for your character to be speaking English and throw in random Japanese words. Knowing a few Japanese words makes you a fluent speaker, and it makes you so cool!

If you want to have more than a few words of another language in your story--for instance, a japanese speaking person, or a German guy--but you don't know how to speak the other language? It's okay to just run the english version of what they're saying through an online translator. Those things produce perfect, intelligent translations that make complete sense. Tada! You're multi-lingual!

Don't forget!
Foreigners always use their own idiom when saying 'yes', 'no or 'maybe' and other words!
Forget they actually know English!
Forget people are actually smart enough to say 'yes' or 'no' instead of 'si' and 'no' or 'ja' and 'nein' because talking in one idiom is boring!
Also, sterotypes are good, becuase a whole country can always be compressed to a bunch of words, right?
