The main character must have a best friend who either has an inferiority complex or is way too rude and out there. The inferiority complex character will always become an evil TRAITOR. Depending on the situation the TRAITOR will either die a heroic death or come back to the side of goodness and everything marshmellowy(sp?).
In stories about England, your character must always, always try to find out who Jack The Ripper is. If it's in present time, it will be aliens. If it is in the past it will be someone very close to the main character or TEH BUTLER.

In fact, have boring sex scenes. Since that's the only important factor in a marriage, this will drive your point of how horrible the husband is the the wife and will explain everything about her bad choices to start her life over not by getting a divorce, but by running away in to danger constantly until a new guy who's hot in bed saves her.
