Ok, I need a bit of help and I suppose this is the appropriate place to get it. I have a great story that I have been working on with my co-author and current boyfriend for a couple years. It started out as an rp concept, but I loved the characters and both of us being geared toward writing decided to attempt to work out a book for the story. Well it's evolved a good bit since then and has become an entire world as opposed to a simple story about two characters and their family. The story has quite a few seriously developed characters and therefore will probably be a rather long series. My question is if perhaps I've combined too many concepts, races, and personalities. I've thought that it might do better if I devided it all up again and just wrote the stories separately instead of combining them all and meshing them into a world. For example, I have a fallen angel warrior king, quite a few vampires, some humans, elves, dragons, lycans, etc...all of it tied up with a good bit of character development and interaction, but maybe it's too much for one book or series? Not only that, but the story starts in ancient times and goes all the way into the modern era, with a few skips, jumps, and hops, of course and the loss of a couple races. I'm not really sure what to do about this at the moment, but eventually it'll work itself out in my head like everything else I suppose. Has anyone else ever had a problem with possibly having too much of a good thing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Some of the really great books have entire worlds created outside of the story, Tolkien is really well known for having such a detailed world. What you may want to do is pick one really important and epic story and write that, knowing all that you know about this world will enrich the story right? Good times? Afterwards you can write extra stories later and your son can finish them after you die and continue to make millions of dollars long after you are gone!

lol Thanks a bunch, though I was hoping one of my daughters would pick it up. xd Better get to bringing that son into existence if my story is going to depend on him. Thanks for the reassurance. There is an epic story involved with this world and it actually ties the whole thing together. Maybe it'll be published, maybe it won't, but if it isn't I can always devide it and try getting it published as separate stories right?

I have a character with a certain supernatural ability. If the palm of her hand comes into contact with someone else's head, she can see one of that person's memories. The catch is that for every memory she gains, she loses one of her own. So she can gain her friend's memory of her date last night, but she'd forget about a date she had planned with someone else the following night.

The question is, what do you call this power? Does it even have a name?

First off let me say that I love the idea. To my knowledge it is pretty uncommon and I love unique characters. I do believe it's a form of mind reading though. I have a rather large interest in psionic abilities (mental abilities such as telekinesis and the like) myself so I'll attempt some digging for you and see if I can find a more appropriate name for it. I hope to see the story soon. ^_^

There is a new game that's coming out for the wii called Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon, with a main character named Seto who has a similar ability as your character. Instead of having to touch people's foreheads to see their memories, he touches their belongings, i.e. he touches a baseball bat, he'll the memories of its previous owner. But unlike your character, Seto still retains his. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where most of the human population has vanished and where demons roam.

I got a new idea. I wrote the storyline and just started the first chapter. It's called Terra Vista Chronicles.

Two and a half years ago, the lands of Terra Vista was tyrannized by a ruthless warrior known as the Demon Knight. He caused fear and terror in his wake and bathed the world in blood, that is until he suddenly disappeared off the face of the planet. Adele Eisner is a 21 year old traveling across Terra Vista in search of something. Along the way, he meets with an 18 year old named Sharona Armeida who knows that Adele was once in fact, the Demon Knight, because she has the ability to sense people’s auras and comments how Adele possesses the same exact dark aura as the Demon Knight. The two of them proceed to battle each other with Adele being the victor. Sharona asks Adele why did he do all those terrible things, to which Adele replies that he doesn’t remember. Angered, Sharona asks him how he can not remember. Adele replies again that he doesn’t remember because he has amnesia and believed that he was the Demon Knight and wasn’t exactly in “control” of his actions during those times. Adele then asks Sharona if she wants to come along with him to help him recover his lost memories and find the people responsible for tricking him and making him believe that he was the Demon Knight and reluctantly agrees, not only because he asked her to, but because she still intends to kill Adele for what he had done when the time comes, in which Adele is very aware of.

Here's what I got so far.
The lands of Terra Vista, a world of pure and natural beauty. Lush

greenery as far as the eye can see. No matter where you look or how far, even

beyond the horizon you can something beautiful as a full grown forest. Because of

this, it is the reason why this world was given the name of Terra Vista. At the

very center of the northern hemisphere lies a magic forest, and at the center of

the forest, lies a giant tree. A tree so gigantic that it can be seen from halfway

across the world. It is known as the “Heaven Piercing Tree” for it is believed that

the tree had grown to reach up and “pierce” the Heavens.

On the outskirts of the forest, a mysterious figure, clad from head to toe

in armor in black, approached the tree. He tried to enter but was denied access

thanks to a barrier. He unsheathed his sword, swung down and destroyed the

barrier with ease and entered. He sheathed his sword. Along the way to the giant

tree, he crossed many obstacles but quickly disposed of them without even using

his sword as if they were nothing. Moments later he was at the center of the

forest and in front of the giant tree. He unsheathed his sword again and walked to

the tree. As he got closer, he was knocked off his feet by a strong gust of wind

that seemingly came from an opening from the tree.

He struggled to his feet as a woman emerged from the tree.

“So, you’re the infamous warrior that’s been causing terror for the past 2

½ years,” said the woman. “The one that is given the title of “Demon Knight,” for

he is more demon than human. Am I correct?”

“You should know the answer to that already,” said the Demon

Knight. “After all, you are the overseer of this world. You watch over us and

protect us from harm. Ha! Ha! Ha! Don’t make me laugh, some overseer you are.”

“You are incorrect,” replied the woman. “ I am not the overseer, I simply

a guardian that is fated to protect this tree for eternity.”

The dialogue between the Demon Knight and the gaurdian I will definitely change. It's what I can come up with at the moment.

What do you think of this supernatural species concept?

The being is called a "Masker." Its natural form is that of a masculine humanoid being with ram's horns coming from its head, and it is only seen as a silhouette against whatever its back is to.

A Masker's natural form allows it to release a powerful green burst of light that, upon contact with most unshielded things, will disintegrate them instantly.

Whenever a Masker kills something, its body will immediately and irreversibly become that being's physical form, and it will lose its natural attack, but will gain any supernatural strengths and weaknesses of its victim. This will happen any time a Masker kills something.

Their social hierarchy consists of an elevated class of those who have killed beings with mental acceleration or mind-altering abilities; each of those will have lieutenants with forms that are powerful in magic and/or physical abilities. Those lieutenants will also have non-subordinate equivalents operating in independent units with the same level of abilities.

The power-class of Masker is organized by their combat ability.

All of THOSE Maskers will have a subordinate team of mundane-human Maskers who finish off their leader's victims to keep the power-Masker's power within their hands, because the transformation upon executing a kill is involuntary and irreversible.

The mundane Maskers paradoxically hold low influence but high respect, as all Maskers realize how important the voluntary formation of a sort of "Fall guy" social class was and is to the Masker's being as powerful of a force as they currently are.

Fun fact! Citing the environmental risk of disposing of hookers conventionally in landfills, California was the first state to require special disposal bins near every drain pipe. Improperly disposing of a hooker can result in a several hundred dollar citation.
Hey, Think Tank! I have a question!
Would it be possible for one of my characters to wake unconciously from her coma, then fall right back into it? She isn't wakened forcefully, she just goes back and forth. Not frequently.

I think you misunderstand. People don't pop awake from a coma like on television. It is a slow and gradual process that takes weeks or months as the body 'boots up'. Not only that but reactions are generally slower for awhile after due to atrophy of certain parts of our processing systems, requiring lengthy rehabilitation. You could think of it like being born again. Also depending on the cause of the coma, the person could awaken completely different than they were before.

You can check around BIA for more information.

So she's not supposed to be able to wake up for a few seconds, then go back into the coma stage?
I found something saying that's possible, just, the person in said coma doesn't usually react to people. I don't know/remember much.

I suppose anything is possible, but it is extremely unlikely. Suffice to say I don't know of any published cases where it has actually ever happened.

This kind of confused me...
Several questions: is the society consisted exclusively of Maskers ? If not, how does one become a Masker, or is one just born that way ?
Is the main purpose of life in that society just to escalade your way up the social lader by killing people of a higher social status and thus inheriting their powers ? Also, how does a Masker know when someone has or doesn't have more power than himself ? Are there signs and insignias that the more powerful classes must wear to be able to distinguish themselves from the masses (or vice versa...), or are there really obvious external signs of power (if you don't consider that power equals wealth, obviously) ?
Also, how can there be a hierarchy of Maskers who "have killed beings with mental acceleration or mind-altering abilities" if they lose their form and their powers - their very nature - when they assassinate someone ? Because from what I understood, it is when a Masker kills someone that he gets their power, so if the "mundane Maskers" finish their master's victim off, it technically doesn't count because their master isn't really the one who killed them per se, right ?

And how can you tell that what's coming out of a Masker's head are ram horns if Maskers are supposed to be only a silhouette ? Doesn't it just look like a weird malformation ?

To Hellenistic. Thanks a Ton!!! I should have narrowed down the God thing... sweatdrop I think I can handle looking that up, especially after all the help you gave me. Really Can't thank you enough. heart

Maskers are a... sort of an organization that exists within human society.
Maskers do not tolerate the killing of Maskers by their own. They seek to obtain
Maskers have such a lack of internal divisions they were once speculated to be a hive mind (later tested in various ways and found to be untrue). However, they can identify another Masker (even one who has had a kill before) intuitively. As well, the ability to sense the power of a magic being is inherent to every sentient creature.
The point of powerful Masker's having subordinates is that the subordinates kill those with less power than their masters, to keep the power among the Maskers. When there is a desirable power, the Masker leader will give the kill to a trusted and skilled subordinate.

Anything I missed?
