It's called fanfiction.

That is what an original story taking place in an already existing/established world is called. Lots of people do it.

In fact, there is a fanfiction subforum here on Gaia.

Lol, I feel dumb. I didn't think about it that way.
Although, I'm really not interested in making a fan-fiction. I'm trying to stray away from that.

If that is the case then you can't use someone's world and call in your own original work. You'd have to either dub it fanfiction or create your own world.
