How do you feel about it?

Personally, it annoys me unless the author has a reason for doing this. If it's just an, "Oh, well I like this name." and the characters happens to be like, African or something...It'd be weird to meet a black chick with the name "Akemi."
Like I said, if the author has a reason for naming their character this, then I don't mind.

What do you think of it?

Yeah, because a black chick with the name LaToya is just as good.

Lol, but I do agree in some degree. But I'm sure that there are readers that are willing to push that behind them.

That made me laugh.
But yeah, there probably are a lot of readers that would ignore it. To me, it just kind of stands out, though.

The spread of manga has destroyed the imaginations of millions of American kids.

There are such things as books without pictures.

Manga in moderation, kiddies. Manga in moderation.

Sidenote: there are other Africans besides black people. FYI. Cherlize Theron is African.

I know. That was just an example. If I offended you, I'm sorry.

I agree that asian names are not a good idea to use BUT only to a degree. If the asian name matches the characters race its fine. I love anime, but I use scottish names and irish names in some of my stories.

I'd like to read a story where a character's parents were so obsessed with anime that they gave him/her a Japanese name. . . even though he/she is very, very white.

It'd be funny to have them have to explain to people.

I could see one of my friends doing that to their child. xD It would be quite funny, I must say.

-"Why's your kid named Sakura?"
-"Naruto is the best ******** anime ever, don't diss her name."

This is not me.

Yes...when that happens it annoys the crap out of me.
I like to keep my literature and Anime/Manga obsessions separated from each other.

Edit: So yes...I suppose I WAS referring to Japanophiles who write there story as if it was an anime...with face faulting and bursting veins...I find it distasteful.

Well, I agree that it does depend on the character's race or if the name has some relevance to the story. It really gets annoying when everyone has an asian name and the story features no Asian characters... (Slightly off topic, my boyfriend's cousins who are black actually have Asian names because of their father's obsession with the culture... very unique really.)

I've put up with much in my life, but the last thing I need is someone stealing my CHOCOLATE!!!

(Actually I've met Black girls named Akira and Kimiko. Neither of them are mixed.)

Personally, I only ever give Japanese names to Japanese characters. It's a little annoying to see random Japanese names, but I can't really stop them. I've been on the internet so long, I don't even care anymore.

It annoys me only when there is no reason for a character to have a name that doesn't match their ethnicity. But, if their parent(s) loved a name and had to have their kid named that, then I'm fine with it, since, I now know the reason behind the odd name.
. . .
One of kids are bound to have a Japanese name, and another with a Russian or German name. . . But I swear, that will only happen if I'm living there at the time of their birth since I plan to live in those places for quite some time. I'd just want my kid to be able to fit in with where they live.
. . .
I know a black girl with the Kumari. Like, from FFX, but that's not why, her mom just loved the sound of the name.

Don't try to link your anti social faggotry with being a writer. I'm not grumpy. I'm an elitist, because I'm better than you. Simple as that.

People have the freedom to gives their kids any name they want. Even a *gasp* foreign name.

Eh, mentioned it before I could >.>

I don't see what there is to be annoyed about. I mean, if I'm reading a book with a white character I like, for example, I could care less that her name is Kimiko / other-asian-origin-name. My high school was an international one and I met Japanese girls name Megan for goodness sake. Shoot, my name is Middle Eastern in origin and I am not Middle Eastern in the least.

I do acknowledge that names do have an original place of origin, but I'd hate to think that everyone believes only the people from that place should have the names from it. All in all if the name bothers someone that much, put the book down.

Feeling rather down, so freebies will be slow or inexistant.
Think I'll just enjoy the season.
