I'm currently working on a comic to hone my lacking and neglected pen-and-ink skills. I'm currently only on the second page, most of the way through drawing the basic lineart of the figures etc. inside the frames (minus smaller details). I'm debating restarting the entire page all because of one frame, or rather, a detail of it. You see, the character's hand goes from this in the previous frame:

to this in the next:

Dear goodness, I hate that deformed little hand in the second frame. gonk It for some reason looked fine when I first penciled it in, but it's so tiny and wrong! I can't think of anything I can put there to lay over it except a pure black background. Even then, it might show. I'm happy enough with the rest of the page so far. It's just that. Stupid. Hand.

Fellow artists - if this was your mistake, would you start over? Anything else you can think of to correct it? I'm so frustrated and afraid to continue lest I get further and decide to redo anyway. Other critiques are fine, if you want, but I'm mainly looking for this opinion.

If you're that unhappy with it, redraw it.
You could try blacking out the background first, but if that doesn't work, you should redo the page, yes. Sadly, I don't think there's much you can do to save it :<

Thanks for the replies. I think I like that meet-in-the-middle idea of trying to black it out first, then seeing how it looks. The scene takes place at night, so blanking the background in a few of the frames works okay.

Of course, as I went to put the page away again, one of my cats decided to jump up and check out what I'm doing, so now there are also small bend spots on a couple areas (one on said tiny hand, even). It seems the fates are conspiring for me to redo it, but I'll give the black coloration a shot.

White-out, redraw, and then digitally remaster.

Simple. Because computers rock.

I personally don't use white out. I'm sure many other artists do, but I've always had terrible luck with it. Wouldn't it also prevent the markers from soaking in when I go back to color it in, as well?

My aim for this comic is to rely as little as possible on the computer, since that doesn't improve my physical skill. Once I get a scanner, I can go over small edits and such, but I'm pushing myself to find solutions on the physical paper as much as possible. I attempted blacking out the background on that cell today, and so far I think it works. I can't see any trace of the hand, at a minimum. I'll give it another 24 hours to make sure I'm happy with it.
