Hi there! I am painting a male Gaia avatar. No area in the painting is finished yet. Before I continue the painting, I would like to know which pose looks less awkward. (Originally I was painting with his arms resting on his side, but now I am considering a wave/halt motion for personality.) Updating the first image, hanging on to the second.

The first is alright, but not very interesting. He's almost at parade rest.

I'd prefer that you made him do something but...I think if you're going to have him wave, just bending his arm at the elbow isn't going to be good enough. I look at him and wonder "What is he doing?" or more specifically "Why's he doing what he's doing? I don't get it."

Do you see what I mean? Your anatomy is lovely and all, but perhaps you should go out and do gesture sketches of people's body language for less stiff poses?
...and perhaps stuffed animal paws, or cosplay photos of people with paw gloves, to move away from just drawing what you see on the avatar?
