Yes, thank you for the clarification. 3nodding

8 Shapes

There's a smudge on the cube because I was trying to make the cone darker but I ran my hand over it by accident. emotion_facepalm
Don't worry about it. You shouldn't have smudges as you move further with the color pencils and the sharpies. mrgreen

I'm putting together week two and I think you guys will have fun with it. As grueling as it will be. Haha.

Good job. Go ahead and start the videos. Post the quiz when you can, so you can be part of the group critique for week 2.
1 daily. Thats an upsidedown fake can and an onion (red) I have for a sphere by the way, if anyone is wondering what the circle in the middle is.

I have to remember to put down some white paper next time, because I've got a black table.
Errol, Did you want a shot of the setup itself for comparison?

Nope. I should be able to see everything I need to see without it.

The point isn't to compare it to the picture. It's to assess where you are and how your understanding of the material is changing your work drawing to drawing.

Those objects are just reference points. You're not drawing them, you're drawing the 3D shapes we're working with. If something can stack into two of them, then cool. Break that down, but we're not working with compound shapes yet and certainly not organic ones.

Keep that in mind for tomorrow's. (Don't do dailies over. What's done is done as far as they go. You'll do more tomorrow anyway.)
Totallyy going to do this on Monday. Can't wait!
This is something I need serious knowledge on.

Mmm, such a bold move with the sharpie, Miss. I find it quite sexy.
Slightly diminished by seeing three rows instead of two, but I'd still do ya. <3

Haha. I'm an overachiever! I give more than what is expected. wink
Went shopping today with the intention of buying some sort of light coloured spheres to practice on (and that wouldn't make me hungry, as was the case when I tried using fruit) and totally forgot to bring money. Hence no new dailys.
...this is a very new thing, drawing every day. I need to make myself do this as regularly as I take the pill, somewhere between exams and assignments. I haven't even done #2 yet, naughty me XD

It's alright. The dailies are really suggestions of practice things to rotate through every day for life until you get the concepts, and even after you do as warm ups before starting a drawing session.

The reason why there's going to be posted and archived isn't just for new people, but also so you guys can take all the time you need. I'll be posting a new one every week, but until you learn to commit time, you won't be able to keep up. I already know this. You should see it as an opportunity to learn that very important skill as an artist. Make time where there is none to draw.

Anyway, take two weeks if you need it, but I don't suggest moving on until you've done everything from the previous week. Week 2 is... involved, but that's necessary to move on to 3. I don't want to dwell on topics, so its up to you guys to decide how long you need to LEARN each topic. Which takes a hell of a lot longer than it will take me to write them.

Though, I DID get really delayed waiting on quizzes. Kind of need those to move on. I got 3 and one daily, so that will have to do. I'm trying to have the next one up tonight. By 3am this morning I decided to sleep instead of start making the slides. Haha.

Hey, you added a lot more detail there Errol!

Questionls: when you say cheap colour pencils, a pack of 12 oh anything should be fine, right, nothing complicated? I'm assuming you have some colour theory session planned.

Nope. I want everything that isn't drawn in sharpie drawn in black color pencil. And we're doing construction for week 2, so construction lines need to be a color (any is fine) to separate them from the final lines.

And yes, PLEASE don't spend a buttload of money on these things. It's a waste for now because you're going to go through them like mad. The idea now is to drill. You need that money for reams of paper.

Like bushido, we train our bodies to know the strokes so our minds can focus on more important things. If you're drilling the way you should be (ideally) you're going to go through a ream a week.

And yes, reams. No more sketchbooks. I want everyone to use a clipboard. Even if they go outside. Starting with week 2. (I repeat, ideal.) This week is about precision and draftsmanship.

Those things are necessary so we can start the fun stuff next week. However, if people need an extra week to absorb and practice first, I'd prefer to wait. I have an alternate planned too. I really want everyone to be happy with the results after a grueling week of drills. The best feeling is to genuinely surprise yourself with your skills. (Rather than have a false sense of accomplishment.)
