Welcome to Gaia! ::

Apparently the picture post is not where you put multiple pictures in one topic. That actually bothers be a bit, but whatever. I love any critique you can give me. Some of the pictures I post might be a bit old, but I would love your opinions on them because it will help me in the future.

Some Creatures
Drew this awhile ago. I could probably draw some of these creatures better now. Maybe. They still aren't my forte. I really like them though.

The World of Rainbows, Lollipops, and Unicorns
Um...I was really tired one day and started speaking gibberish about some magical land. My friend somehow ended up getting dragged in it and is the person in the picture. I colored it too lightly and did some lighting thing in photobucket. At least you can see everything pretty well thanks to it.

The cat thing from the picture about. I love drawing him. I think because I love cats, and his ears are big, and I love how thick his legs are.
Drawing Project
This was a picture I took awhile ago of a project I'm doing in my Drawing class. I'm shading it now. It's gonna look so pretty!

African Congo Unicorn
I drew two other types of Unicorns, but this one was the best out of all of them. It kinda looks like a rhino.

All My Creatures
I think these are all of the creatures I have made up on my own. Some of them are pretty weird looking, but I'm sure they would make sense in my own world.

Gesture Drawings?
Okay, I tried drawing gesture drawings of my sister dancing like a crazy monkey. I don't think I got the hang of it yet. I did learn something though! I learned a bit about how shoulders and hips move.

Please critque anything. I would love to learn how to get better.

Working on gesture drawings will help you improve a lot on drawing people.
Try a softer medium like vine or willow charcoal (a box with a shitload of it is pretty cheap) and try using the side of the medium to fill in the silhouette of the figure before you go back and define its shape. If you want to do motion gesture, concentrate more on the moving parts and less on the rest of the figure. Try to use gestural lines or the side of the medium instead of drawing the contour lines of the limbs. You can apply the same techniques to your creature drawings. Almost all of your creatures will benefit from studying the way a four-legged mammal walks. Try watching a dog or cat walk around. Notice the shapes of its limbs, the landmarks of their form, and the way their muscles contract as they move.

I'm trying gesture drawings for the first time since I know that will help me improve, so having you give me tips is great! I will have to do animals sometime. Maybe when my cats are hanging out in my room.

Thank you for helping out! Also, would pastel work better than charcoal? Or maybe I should try drawing with a pen?

Pastel works just as well. :] I love using conte (which is similar to pastel, but a bit harder) for my works, so I imagine it should be fine. I'm not sure that drawing with a pen would really be helpful, but you can always do that if you want. I know I used only an ink pen for all of my drawings all through high school, and I had a really scribbly style that made it easy to cover up and draw over mistakes.~ So if you do that, it might help you to correct yourself until you get it right. :] That's more of a personal decision, though.

M'kay! Sounds good to me.

Hi! I agree that you ought to do more gesture drawings, it really does help. And also, if you're at a lack of people studying from a website like posemaniacs.com is helpful. It has 3d models of dozens of different poses. It doesn't beat real life, but it's great for quick sketches n_n

Keep at it!

I really need to get off my lazy bump and do this. I've just been so stressed out by life that I haven't really had the motivation to draw. =C

Speedpaint Drawing
Also, this is a drawing I did awhile ago but I would love anything to help fix it. It's a long story, but it's Legend of Zelda related.
I'm really sad guys. I was carrying around a white folder with a page of a small comic I was doing and some of my favorite drawings I've drawn this year, and I lost it. *Sob* It has to be at school though. I know I had it in my 4th period class, but I didn't leave school with it. I check with my math teacher(4th period class) and he said he didn't find anything. Which means I have to ask my physics teacher tomorrow. SCIENCE TEACHERS SCARE ME GUYS.

I will get it back though! Till then, I do have some pictures.

Nurse Xue?
I have Pokemon fan characters. This is one of a pair of twins. I had drawn the other one a bit older, so I did the same with this one. I don't think I'm gonna finish it though.

Hands
I own a book that talks about drawing hands and feet, and it even shows muscles and skeletons of them both! I honestly don't know what I was trying to do though. Why are my fingers so messed up!?

Mermaid and Turtles
Yeah, I got bored. I just wanted an excuse to draw sea turtles. I also read a Little Mermaid related book.

Close up of Mermaid and Turtles

Sleeping on Kai's Shoulder
I just started this picture on Gimp, so it's gonna be fun learning/relearning Gimp. Any helpful advice?
User Image
Finished that picture before Christmas. I didn't like how the dude came out, but the girl...akldfnjioea SHE'S ADORABLE.

User Image
Remember the unicorns and lollipops and rainbows one? I colored it in Gimp and got this picture. I think it's okay for the most part. It was mostly for coloring.

User Image
Chibi Shadow Link. Don't know how I feel about this one.

User Image
Bunny Link.

Coloring Gabby
Coloring an older pic with Gimp. I was working on this when New Years hit. So...yay? Still working on it. Although at the moment I've stopped to draw Aryll and Kukiel.
Watch out guys, lots of little pictures.

User Image
I drew a picture of Aryll and Kukiel, both from the Legend of Zelda series! For those who don't know, Aryll is Link's little sister and is from Wind Waker. Kukiel is just a silly little girl that is from the newest game, Skyward Sword. They are both adorable and I love drawing adorable things.

Flying Pig
A pig I drew during Finals Week in December. I like how he came out.

The pig colored.

Concept 1
Concept art for a dragon design for a two page comic I'm working on. I was doing these concepts after/before I did the Flying Pig picture.

Concept 2
This is the head I decided on for the final design.

Concept 3
More concept art. Much closer to what I wanted. It's really close. I only did a few changes here and there.

Pet Creature
This is some creature that appears in the comic as a character's pet. Think of it as a cat/small dog.

Preview of the two pages.

Birthday picture for my RP buddy! Can't wait to see if he likes it or not!

This picture needs some serious critiquing. I'm open for anything you guys have to say. Just try to be helpful when you're critiquing. I've already had someone comment on my deviantart saying something that has nothing that can help me.

On the 3rd picture, I think Link's body (especially his torso seems too stiff. It also seems like his facial features were kind of rushed and they don't really "connect" to his face. Also his hands do need work. I checked out the link with the hands that you drew, and I think you should continue doing more work like that. The clothing is also lacking folds and the sword handle is misshapen.

Overall, try to imagine that instead of drawing on 2D paper, you are carving an object out of marble. Use your pencil to first capture the motion of the object, then box in the figure, and slowly chisel out his features.

The coloring does need work. The sun should be more reflective and less like a yellow circle. I do like the way that the environment suits the character. On a side note, what program are you using to make your art? If you are using your mouse to create art, I would suggest drawing in the traditional way until you save up for a tablet. Hope this helps and I'm not trying to be harsh, I'm just putting this out there ^_^

Oh no! You're not being harsh at all! I rather have comments like yours than pointless ones like one I got on Deviantart when I posted this picture.

I have been told on another forum that I should look at a reference picture, which I do admit I need to do more. Link is my least favorite thing on that picture. I think I'll go back to this picture later after messing around with coloring and drawing from references/life. I think the only reference I used was for the color of the sand and rocks and to see what rocks look like in an actual desert.

I'm using Gimp, which is actually still new to me. I usually draw traditionally or with mspaint. But since I've gotten Gimp I've been messing around with coloring pictures and doodles to see what kind of coloring I can do. I don't use my mouse, I actually do use a tablet. Of course, that doesn't mean it makes my art any better! I like my traditional art much more than my digital art.

Either way, I have been looking at references for other things, like gazelle/deer legs for getting an idea of what a Unicorn's leg might be like. I guess I should also apply that to my humans.

Oops, I rambled. XD
FairehMoon
I'm sorry that I thought you used the mouse >.<
I haven't used Gimp in a while, though. But when I did use it, I thought it was a little too confusing and I soon gave up. I would suggest using Paintool SAI (which is free) if you want your colors to look sharper and blend in more.
