Digital Painting Progress

Heya! I've been studying up on other tutorials/digital painters off DA, and I've decided to post my first attempt at digital painting here. So technically it's my digital painting skill that is a 'work in progress'.

This sample is of a generic female face; I've noticed artists start very large and then shrink the image down for viewing on the web, so I tried that. I practiced more on hair in #2

Wow thats very very pretty. Perhaps if you added a few sharper lines to help it stand out more it would be even more striking

if you want to become good at digital painting, you gotta draw and paint more stuff from real life

at least that's what ppl are always telling me sweatdrop

@ carcar: Thanks! I draw with sharp lines, and when I add color everything gets smooth..but I see your point, small sharp details add a lot to the picture.

@Neil: That's what everyone tells me, too! I try to spend a couple hours everyday speed painting razz

The second looks something like what an older game system's game cover art would be. Gamecube, to be exact. I think of "Fire Emblem" in painting style of the hair, and "Wind Waker" in terms of edge simplicity.
