"Greetings."
My lips curved into a wry smile and I narrowed my eyes at the armored man across the arena from me. He was clad very much like I remembered the roman centurions of old dressed, which I wondered at. At first I assumed he was human but very soon I began to feel that this was not so. There was something not quite mortal about him, though I highly doubted that he was one of the gods. He simply did not have that sort of presence. However, the gentle manner in which he had dealt with his previous opponent, was uncharacteristic of a demon. A curiosity to be sure, but that is what I like about the battledome- always something new.
"Prepare to die," I said simply and gathered energy into my palms.
He was still a little stunned from his last match, but he quickly snapped to attention when I began began charging swiftly towards him. He raised his sword to defend himself, but I knew how to manage that. I caught the sword in my grasp and at my touch the metal began to writhe wildly then with an earsplitting screech splintered into a thousand pieces. He stepped back, startled either by my power and the breaking of his blade or simply my ferocity.
I smiled triumphantly and gathering my power, I slammed my hand onto his forehead. I planned to rip his body apart from the inside, but something happened that I did not expect. There was something else inside him, some dark aura and it reacted strangely with the chaos I had forced into him. It exploded back onto me like a black wave and forced me back several feet. I stood gasping and shocked, trying desperately to hold this trembling mortal shell together. My opponent stood amazed and confused at what had happened.
Determined not to lose, I began to summon more power even though it threatened to tear my body apart. He ran foreward quickly and I was unable to react in time. He brought his fist down hard on the head of my weakened body and I collapsed. I cursed myself for the foolish mistake I had made. I could have won, I should have won.
It was not dead, but I fled the weakened form anyway. It would be better just to start from scratch. Assuming I can do better next time. I wonder how I could have been so careless.
@np: "Hmmm....I think there is something wrong with me today."
