I watched both, the normal series was actually my first anime x3
I finished watching brotherhood a few months ago.
Brotherhood was better, in my opinion at least ^^

Good luck! I suggest that you join a few guilds to make new friends. You'll probably spend a lot of time questing for an item, since the market is hyper-inflated. Everything costs a lot and takes a long time to get unless you pay real money. It helps if you're happy with the way your avatar is to start with. c; If you have any questions, feel free to ask. i started watching brotherhood, but i haven't finished it yet. (⌒_⌒; )
but from what i've seen and heard about brotherhood i think it's better too!
i'm happy they remade the series to follow the manga plot.

I liked it a lot plotwise, because I saw the anime befor reading the manga. After reading the manga it was just like: This. Is. So. Much. Better.
