First of all, welcome to the wonderful world of Gaia!
Second, you say you're poor?
Playing games like Booty Grab and zOMG! are really good ways to get some money quick.
I myself am not a fan of zOMG!, but Booty Grab is a quick and easy way to get some gold.
If you head over to the Aquarium forum, there'll be a whole bunch of "glowing" tanks in people's signatures or posts. From there you can play Booty Grab, and get about 1,000 gold per play (Well, at least that's what I get, it's not that hard.)
That's mostly how I got all of my money.

Welcome to gaia. To earn money you can do daily chances and play games. If you get an item in the daily chance that you have no use for, or if you have more than one of an item and dont see the point in the extras you can always sell them at the market place. You can also leave comments, vote, or post to earn money. Have a nice day and I hope you enjoy gaia
