First off, welcome to Gaia.
Next...top five things.
1. Read forum stickies/rules.
2. Don't worry so much about gold, it'll come faster than you think.
3. Don't feed the trolls...ever.
4. Make sure you use the report button when it's necessary.
5. Have fun!

Hm, I don't know about the top 5 things. The only thing that really comes to mind is never give out your password to anyone, ever. Don't give it in a PM or fill out any sort of forms. If you click on a link and get redirected to a page outside of Gaia that asks for your password, exit the page immediately.

Just know that there's lots to do and what you should be doing the most is exploring and making friends on the forums. If you like writing, check out the Barton Town forums where people roleplay (write stories together). There's also the chatterbox if you're random and like to be a troll.
