You get gold by:
1. Surfing around Gaia. Believe it or not, this actually earns you gold!!!
2. Posting
3. Voting on polls
4. PMing
5. Fishing
6. Art Arena
7. Begging for gold in the Charity Forum (not advised, but I do it anyways! blaugh )
9. Selling/trading items (duh!)
10. Selling art, banners, wishlists, etc.
Ummm...I can't think of anymore right now.

Doing basically anything yeilds gold. Posting, voting in polls/Art Arena, and fishing are just a few examples. I'm sure there are plenty more ways you could find to make gold, but I only listed the basics.
