Check out the Shops Directory. It is the first link under Shops. Some of the items hardly cost any gold at all. Other items cost more gold which you can get by posting and playing games.

A quick way to get some pretty decent items is to keep open a tab with Dumpster Dive (it's in the games section), and click it every few minutes. You'll sometimes get some pretty neat items (especially during events and holidays), and if you don't like them you can just sell them for the gold.
