Well, I recently realized that there is no guideline for making threads in the Wanted Subforum, and people often make mistakes when posting here. So I have decided to create a guideline, hopefully it will help some people out. If you feel that this thread is unnecessary/inaccurate/needs improvement, please let me know.

Types of Threads

Often times, people make threads in the Wanted Subforum better suited for the Exchange, or vice-versa. Here are the three major types of threads that belong here in the Wanted Subforum. Now realize that the names I gave these types are only for organization purposes, and should not be taken too literally.

Specific Item Buying
In these threads, the creator is looking to buy a specific item, or set of items, such as a wishlist. Their offer can include gold, items, whatever.

General Item Buying
In these threads, the creator has a fair amount of gold and is looking to buy any sort of item that you have to offer (assuming they want it). They have the right to deny any of your offers.

Trading/Upgrading/Downgrading
In these threads, the creator will be looking to do one of the things above. Trading is fairly simple, where the creator is looking to trade items of similar or equal value. As long as the creator knows which item they're looking to trade for, it belongs here. Upgrading and Downgrading usually applies to Donation Items, but can also work with Event Items. In this case, the owner is looking to trade a letter/usable item for the thing inside + gold or items of their choice (downgrading) or the opposite (upgrading). An example of this would be "Downgrading a December 03 Letter for Angellic Scarf + 5k."

If one of these doesn't describe your thread, chances are it doesn't belong in the Wanted Subforum. In this case, PM an online Dedicated Moderator (purple, and can be found by clicking the View Forum Moderators), and ask them to move it. Or you can simply report your own thread by using the "Report This Thread" button, and ask the mod to move the thread to the correct location.

How to Set Up Your Thread

To achieve optimum results from your thread, there are a few things you should do. Remember, these are suggestions and only meant for your benefit.

Specific Item Buying:

  • List the item/s you are looking for in your thread title.

  • Say exactly how much you are willing to pay for it, or at least a general range.

  • If your offer includes items, list how much the items are worth. Also, in the end list how much your entire offer is worth.

  • Specify whether or not you want people to PM you.

  • As always, try to type with proper grammar.

General Item Buying:

  • List which items you are NOT interested in, as to save both you and the poster time.

  • State how much you have to spend.

  • If you are only buying for YOUR prices, specify that, and list your prices. This goes along with saying "I go only by GEN" or "I will pay 75% of the store price". Also, you may want to state if you will haggle your prices or not.

  • Let the posters know whether or not you will buy their item once they've posted.

  • Have a reasonable amount of gold (IE don't go in asking to buy things with 10g).

  • Specify whether or not you want people to PM you.

Trading/Upgrading/Downgrading:

  • If downgrading a letter/openable event item, specify which of the items inside you are looking for.

  • If upgrading, usually have gold or items to add onto the upgradable item, depending on how much more the original openable item is worth.

  • Specify whether or not you want people to PM you.

What NOT to Do

As well as there are things you should do when making a thread, there are things you should not do.

~ Do NOT make repeat threads. Please limit yourself to one thread per item or type of item you are looking for. If you cannot find your old thread, try using your Egosearch or post history search before making a new one.

~ Do NOT make threads and then abandon them (this goes along with making it, but then leaving immediately and telling people to PM you offers).

~ Do NOT offer gold or items that you do not have immediate access to.

~ Do NOT flame/argue with/pester those who are unwilling to sell to you.

~ Do NOT make threads that are selling your own items and put "Wanted: to sell these things" or something along that line. This goes along with "Wanted: Gold". Threads like these belong in the Exchange and Charity forums, respectively.

~ Do NOT make threads looking for art/banners/etc. The Wanted Subforum is only for Gaia items, so threads like those belong in the Requests and Commissions Subforum.

~ Do NOT make threads looking for game items (fish, tickets, etc.). These threads belong in the Game Item Exchange.

~ Do NOT make a thread looking for an item without knowing the proper value of that item.

~ Do NOT be rude to those posting in the wrong forum. Please kindly direct them to the proper forum, and be on your way.

~ Do NOT advertise in other people's threads. It's against the rules and just plain annoying. This includes making offers on items in other peoples' threads.

~ Do NOT violate the TOS, in Wanted, or any other forum.
