Permanent Semi-Hiatus
Posted: Monday, Jan 21 @ 3pm

NNL is going on what's essentially a permanent semi-hiatus.

No, there's no drama; there's no cloud of angst, either. It's actually all for a very boring reason: my love of Gaia has faded. Everything used to be an enjoyable hobby, but in the past several months, it's become little more than a painful responsibility. I play games to have fun, so if I'm not having fun... well, I stop playing.

We're not *closing* NNL because that would imply no more events, no more breedings, etc., ever again. That's not the case. However, the breedings/events/etc. will *only come* when we really want to do them. This also means no more customs or bribes unless we specifically make a post offering them. This is the stuff we especially don't enjoy doing, so we're... not going to do any of it! And that, in a nutshell, is what our permanent semi-hiatus will be: we blow off the stuff we loathe doing and pop on to do the things we *do* enjoy.

If we owe you a growing, a certing, anything like that, feel free to drop a PM to DA Tofu!. Please don't expect overnight Fed Ex service, but we will get it done for you. Just be patient with us.

We love you all as much as we love this shop... and that's a whoooole lot. You're terrific regulars and we hope you don't all flee the minute you're done reading this. While this is all a game, we do also feel that we owe something to all of you, and that's why we promise not to close NNL entirely. (Although a part of that depends on you guys.)

Lots of love,

Afterthought:

If you're wondering, "Why are they neglecting NNL and continuing full-speed with Digis?" The answer is this: Tofu's jobs on NNL include tagging, updating an owners list, and replying to illiterate PMs; her job on Digis is to program whatever she wants. In a nutshell, NNL involves nothing but dull tasks any monkey could do, while Digis is full of interesting, educational jobs that require at least a water droplet of talent. Which would you choose?

Drop-off Thread
Posted: Saturday, Sep 22 @ 6pm

Now that we can't check post histories OR jump to pages in threads, it's cruel to post drop-offs on a specific page... so we've made a guild thread to do the job! Drop offs, growings, and so forth can now be found HERE! heart

Numa Numa Land
Numa Numa Land is a vast, vibrant expanse of color and sweet smells. Surrounded by frosting-topped jello mountains, Numas, Pleeps and Smidgeons are free to carelessly frolic through forests of lollypops and candycanes, hunt for swedish fish in rivers of grape soda, play in cocoanut flake snow, and roll around hills of candy buttons. The only space they avoid rests in the northeastern corner, for deep within the molasses swamp and black licorice trees resides the evil, bitter Coffee Witch, who suffers a chronic lack of sleep and who spends her time plotting against the chipper Numas.

Yearly Calendar
Numas enjoy having a reason to celebrate and party just as much as the average Gaian does, you know! For your convenience we've compiled a list of the major holidays celebrated throughout Numa Numa Land. Luckily, Numas almost always invite their friends to the parties... 'cuz it'd be a real shame to miss any of these!

January 1 - Numa New Year
The first day of the new year is celebrated with bubbling grape soda, noise-making toys and parties that go 'till morning!

February 14 - Candy Exchange Day
On this day, Numas exchange special love-themed candies to friends, family, and especially current (or those they hope will become) significant others. The Marshmallow Swan is also extra-generous on this day, allowing Numas to sidestep certain breeding rules that are otherwise strongly enforced

      Mid March - Gumdrop Festival
Numa legend tells the story of two Numa lovers whose conflicting families kept them strictly apart, save for one single night each year in March when the young male would sneak away and brave a journey through the nearly-impassable Gumdrop Mountains... just to see his love for a few hours before returning home. This festival is in honor of the legend, and of the devotion the young Numa showed, year after year. In Japanese style, Numas dress up and visit temporarily-erected stalls to play games, sample foods and generally have a good time. It's especially popular for young couples in love!

      April 30 - ANOTHER HALLOWEEN!!
Who wants to wait a whole year for Halloween?? Not the Numas! And so, since they can basically do whatever they like, they went ahead and made a second Halloween to be celebrated exactly six months after the "original" one.

      July 1~8 - Lollypop Festival
Numas have to fuel their economy somehow, and they do this by harvesting lollypops. The last week of June is the best time to do it, hence the tradition of holding a festival the week following this harvest.

      August 21 - Foundation Day
This is the day Numa Numa Land was founded! To celebrate this, Numas hold a giant, town-wide barbeque on this day, and set off fireworks once night falls.

October 31 - OMG OMG HALLOWEEN!!!!
Dressing up and candy. What WOULDN'T make this the BEST holiday of the whole year?!?!

November 24 - The Big Feast
November is when the profit from the lollypop harvest begins to filter in, and so to celebrate their good fortune, the Numas hold a giant feast... but they don't eat until after they've said thanks!

      December 24 & 25 - Days of Giving
A day for Numas to promote generosity. Gifts are exchanged on this day, Numa-to-Numa, Numa-to-friend, and Friend-to-Numa.

NPCs
Everyone is equally important in NNL! However, that's not to say there aren't some notable faces you'd best learn to recognize.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
      Willy the Mayor [x]
Undoubtedly the most beloved Numa who ever lived! Willy has been NNL's mayor since the very beginning, and frankly, nobody wants to know what things would be like without him. (Except perhaps the Coffee Witch, but nobody really cares what she thinks.) Willy is an excellent leader, a friendly and caring Numa, and one crazy party animal... so what else could NNL possibly need in a mayor!?

      The Coffee Witch [x]
      Dun dun dun~

      The Marshmallow Swan[x]
The Marshmallow Swan is a kindly, maternal bird who spends her days carefully listening to the prayers of Numas who wish to become parents. She works hard to deliver feathers and Numa pups to everyone deserving.

      Spectre [x]
Spectre lives to haunt. (Um, contradiction aside.) Mischief and tricks are both the joy of his (after)life and his forte, although really, he's actually quite harmless.

Nummy Numas
Numas are happy little creatures that live in Numa Numa Land, a small place made entirely out of sweets. Numas themselves have been living in Numa Numa Land for so long that they've evolved over generations to be semi-editable themselves! This is why they've been forced to seal away their world from all other creatures, the only exception being when the Numas become lonely and invite small, select groups of trustworthy Gaians to visit and bond with them.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Stages of Life
First generation Numa are given to Gaians in the form of an INVITATION. This letter invites the Gaian to visit Numa Numa Land where they are destined to befriend a Numa. (These letters are always mysteriously colored similar to that of the Numa the Gaian is destined to befriend).

Second generation Numa begin as a FEATHER, bestowed upon a couple by the Marshmallow Swan. The Marshmallow Swan is known to mark these feathers with specific colors and designs to help her remember where to bring each Numa pup.

The PUP stage follows either the invitation or the feather. Not yet fully developed and missing their horns, pups are small and spend much of their time sleeping, playing, and feeding. Newborn pups will feed off of their parent(s), in turn, by licking away at their horns.

Most Numas will not grow beyond the ADULT stage. Fully developed, the males are capable swimmers and the females capable fliers. Adult Numas are self-sufficient and have the ability to seek out a mate and start their own family if they wish to.

Older Numas only become EVOLVED if the Marshmallow Swan individually selects them for the honor. She chooses only those Numas who have proven themselves to be outstanding citizens of NNL; more importantly, she trusts these Numas to not abuse their larger sizes and evolved strength.

Sub Species
    COSPLAYS
Numas were beyond ecstatic when they discovered the human concept of Halloween. Beside the obvious excitement caused by the holiday's use of candy, they were intrigued by the concept of dressing in costume. Thus, they have not only adopted Halloween as one of their own holidays, but they have also begun dressing up, randomly, on a regular basis! Some Numas will merely wear costumes, while others become obsessed enough to style their hair, dye their fur, and even wear contacts so that they mimic the character entirely. Also, there are times when a couple will cosplay together, being so close they even share the same cert!
Breeding: Offspring of Cosplays may or may not be of the Cosplay sub-species. It's random.

    COFFEES
Coffee Numas are a special subspecies of Numas that have grown up in the Molasses Swamp, far away from the main population. Because of their odd appearance, they rarely venture amongst their peers, and instead remain hidden away in the Licorice Forest. This also restricts their diet to highly caffeinated foods, specifically coffee. The constant intake of caffeine is what has caused their odd evolution; it's also why coffee Numa young cry chronically.
Breeding: Coffee parents each have a 1/6 chance of passing on the Coffee gene to their offspring.

    MY LITTLE "PONIES"
If curiosity killed the cat, it mutated the Numa... into a My Little Pony, no less! A certain small, inquisitive group of Numas flew a little too close to an especially magical rainbow one day, and came out with odd little deformities. Some of them have unicorn horns, others butterfly, Pegasus, or bat wings.
Breeding: MLP parents each have a 1/6 chance of passing on the MLP gene to their offspring.

    POCKET NUMAS
These tiny Numas are a minuscule 1/8th the size of normal Numas, putting them at only about 6" tall! Pocket Numas are extremely energetic, loving nothing more than being chased as they dart each way, eluding your capture. If you happen to be in shape, however, and successfully snatch one... stick the little bugger immediately in your pocket! Exhausted from the chase, they'll curl up and fall asleep. After that, they'll never wish to leave, and you'll have yourself a new friend!
Breeding: Only if both parents are Pocket Numas will the offspring be Pockets.

    PERMA-PUPS
Perma-pups are Numas that have lost the ability to grow up. They're identifiable because, as opposed to normal, growing pups, their eyes are open.
Breeding: Perma-pups have a 2/3 chance of passing on the Perma gene. Perma-pups also have 2/3 less chance of successfully breeding.

The Tragic Past
Marshmallow Pleeps are a separate, unique species, unrelated to Numas and Smidgeons. However, as with their neighbors, Marshmallow Pleeps are entirely, deliciously edible. In their past, they had problems with hungry travelers passing through their lands and... well... let's cut through the dark, gorey details and say things simply weren't looking very up for these poor little guys. ;;; Luckily, Willy invited to take them all in, and now they live here, in Numa Numa Land, happy and safe!

Ploops & Pleeps
Pleeps have three stages of life: egg, ploop and adult. Pleeps breed the same as Numas, by praying to the Marshmallow Swan; however, she has trouble carrying the delicate eggs, so she always brings them in a colorful, grass-filled basket. For this reason, Pleep babies never separate until they've hatched into ploops.

As Pleeps mature, their unique personality types develop more and more. Eggs are non-specific beyond gender, but hatched ploops begin to show signs of their future type immediately. Adults, then, are fully developed. (Pleeps have unisex lineart through all stages of life, but the adult stages are unique dependent on personality type. The currently discovered personality types are: mild, bold, timid, yay, grr, and emo.)

Breeding amongst Pleeps works exactly as it does for Numas. The Pleeps must be life-mated before praying to the swan, and successful breedings cost 10K and result in 2-4 offspring. Offspring have a 1/3 chance of being mild and a 1/3 chance of being either parent's type.

Racing
The following factors affect racing: stats, energy, distance and luck. They're explained below:

o Stats (speed & agility) are basic strengths randomized (10-60) upon the birth of the Pleep. Stats can be increased by special events and reach as high as 100.
o Energy is rolled once per day (assuming there's a race going on!) to gauge how rested up and energetic the Pleep is! Energy is between 5 and 8.
o Distance is per round, and it's basically the race itself! Distance is a 100-sided dice roll; the number of dice is whatever the energy roll was.
o Luck is... well... luck! It's a 50 point bonus that goes to whichever Pleep rolled the most "8"s during the round! (However, if no Pleep rolls at least three 8s, there's simply no luck bonus that round.)

The total score for each round is calculated by (speed + agility) x 2 + distance + luck (if any).

Some races include betting, prizes, and other special events, while others are simply for fun. All races will be announced at least a few hours in advance.

Numa LuvLuv
Numas have no common pattern in their courtship; they'll court Numas of either gender and varying ages. When a female Numa decides on a life mate, she will lick the horn of the male, and if she approves of the taste (as all males have different-flavored horns), the male will be given a chance to return the gesture. If the male also approves of the female's taste, they will become mates. Males never initiate this, although they can (and often do) hint terribly at females they fancy. (With homosexual Numas, the submissive partner takes on the female role, with the dominant partner taking on the male role.)

All Numas mate for life. A prayer will simply not be strong enough unless the Numas are entirely loyal to one another. A life-mating can never, ever be undone.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
"Mating"
There is nothing sexual about this process! When a single, couple, or trio of Numas come to the conclusion that they'd like offspring, they stop at the foot of the enormous Peep Tree and pray to the Marshmallow Swan, who lives at the very top, beyond view. If she approves of them, she will bless them with marked feathers. Several days later, the Marshmallow Swan will come during the night and replace these feathers with infant Numas. Numa pups often carry on the physical traits of the parents... but not always!

(Breeding is a privilege for those who roleplay, not any sort of obligation from us to you. As such, we require ample time and roleplay (pre-romance, courting and the mating ritual) before declaring life-mates. For trios, the Numas must become life-mates all together and at the same time.

The number of feathers created by each breeding is randomized in the thread by us; 1-2 for single parents, 2-4 for couples, and 3-6 for trios. Breeding costs 10K per parent. All stages of life can interbreed freely (except for pups with adults). All generations (Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, etc...) and all sub-species (Coffee, MLP, Pocket, etc...) may interbreed freely as well. In most cases, Numas are limited to two breedings in their lifetime. However, if a couple consists of two evolved Numas or two Cosplay Numas (or a mixture of the two), they get one extra.

For specifics on passing on genes, check the sub-species post above. <3

To breed, Numas must have been life-mates for at least a month and meet whatever additional requirements are denoted by the individual breeding raffle. Breeding raffles are how all breeding spots are opened; these are announced either in the thread's title and/or through the mailing list. Owners will then have a set amount of time (typically 12-48 hours) to submit their Numas into the raffle. The winner(s) will then be drawn.

BE FOREWARNED: When anyone asks about how their breeding and/or growth is coming along, especially if it's within the normal time span... the Marshmallow Swan gets a TERRIBLE MIGRAINE and is forced to rest for a couple days, resulting a postponed delivery.)

Offspring
(Offspring can be kept, given away, traded for other pets, and sold without prior permission; all we ask is to be informed of the new owner and for 10% of any profit made. Auctions, raffles and contests require prior permission, but are otherwise permitted. Once approved, these are to be handled by the owners, and we ask only 10% of any profits made by them. All auctions/sales MUST have an autobuy of 100K (regular perma) or 200K (growing or rare permas) or less. Also, for every feather auctioned/sold, another feather from the same breeding must be given to the shop for our use. Selling is only allowed twice per owner.

    Offspring cannot be co-owned.)

SmidgeonsUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Smidgeons are small creatures that inhabit Numa Numa Land, often coming out to bond with their larger neighbors, the Numas and the Pleeps. Some Smidgeons are simply marvelous little friends, while others also have special traits and abilities!

All Smidgeons are broken down into one of three subtypes: Common, Uncommon and Rare. Common Smidgeons are fairly easy to gain from all methods, including games, raffles and flat sales. Uncommon Smidgeons are often Limited Edition, given out during a single event before being retired. Rare Smidgeons are the species that come with special abilities, such as granting breedings or increasing the likelihood of rare offspring. For this reason, Rare Smidgeons are fairly difficult to obtain.

      Common Species:

        o Gumdrop Dinosaur [x]
        o Peppermint Beaver [x]
        o Twitterpater [x] [x] [x] [x]

      Uncommon Species:

        o Snow Yeti (White [x], Soot [x], Bow [x])
        o Blankie (White [x], Black [x], Tattered [x], Slime [x])

      Rare Species:

o Marshmallow Duckling [x] [x] (Grants one immediate breeding, even if breedings are maxed out.)
o My Little Fluffy [x] [x] (Only bonds with MLP Numas! Increases the likelihood of MLP offspring by 1/6.)
o Digi-Coffee-Mon [x] (Only bonds with Coffee Numas! Increases the likelihood of Coffee offspring by 1/6.)

Items

Certain items around Numa Numa Land have shown to have amazing properties, beginning with the discovery of the Lollypup. In order to keep everyone informed as we continue to find more and more of these items, we've decided to post a list right here!

    Discovered Items:

o Lollypup [x] (Cures perma-pups, allowing them to grow!)
o Gummy Numa [x] (Converts old Numas to the new art and vis versa. Sadly, Cosplays are immune.)

Rules
Use your God-given brain; it's there for a reason! Don't pick fights, don't break Gaia's ToS, read our announcements before asking questions, and don't do any asinine, clearly inappropriate stuff in our thread. Is this rule even really necessary?

We're all happy friends here! Do not drag your angst/drama into our thread, no matter how legitimate you think it is. There shall be no moping, whining, fighting, bullying, and/or otherwise acting detrimental toward our intended atmosphere of joy and candy. In a nutshell, be NICE and be HAPPY. If you can't handle this, please leave. NNL is NOT your Livejournal! We're sorry about any IRL problems you may be having, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that this is NOT the place where you ought to be discussing them!

Be respectful of your fellow thread occupants. If you're roleplaying something overly violent or depressing, PLEASE take it to the guild. Not everybody wishes to see it. Also, to re-emphasize the above rule, this also includes discussing IRL problems in-thread. Take it to PMs or LJ, please?

Don't fear us! Feel free to PM this account if you have any questions, concerns, or even feedback about the shop. Unless you continuously hound us with irritating inquiries, we won't even ponder how tasty you might be were we to bite you. Honest!

Your time is your own; you owe us nothing. Short of being blacklisted from the shop, you're at no risk of losing your Numa. Ever. You don't have to post here, roleplay here, or even like us in order to keep your Numa. As much as we'd love to have you around, we're not going to force you. Gaia's just a game, after all!

If you act like a child, we can treat you like one. We reserve the right, for any act we deem worth consequences, to respond with anything from warnings to taking away pets. Please don't make us do this, though. ;__;.

FAQ
Q: I want a high-quality, uncerted version of my pet. Can I have one?
    A:
Yes! If your Numa was released/grown recently, the image will be here. Otherwise, just post in our Request Thread to request it be added. (Please also use this thread for item equipping requests, cert changes, and similar issues!)

    Q: What are "GCC"s?
    A:
It stands for "gold chocolate coins", the currency of NNL. In layman's terms, they're store credit. 1 GCC = 1 Gaia Gold. They can be used for anything, including breedings, auctions, flat sales, customs, raffles, etc.! (The list can be found HERE.)

Q: Can non-owners and/or non-Numa pets participate in the thread and in special events?
    A:
Yes, everyone is ALWAYS welcome to participate in our thread / RP / events! As for pets, they are also invited, but please try to use common sense about this; don't bring in a pet that would happily eat up all the poor Numas.

Q: How long do Numas take to grow? Pleeps?
    A:
This can vary, but normally feathers grow in 2 to 7 days and pups grow in 2 to 4 weeks. The same goes for Pleeps.

Q: Some Numas have black lineart, and others don't. What's going on?
    A:
All owners have a choice between invisible and black lineart. Invisible is the default, but you are welcome to PM us at any time and request that we turn it black.

Q: Can two of my own Numas breed together?
    A:
    No.

Q: Is there a limit to how many Numas any one person can own?
    A:
Nope! On the contrary, gotta catch 'em all!!

Q: Can I guest color or apply to become staff?
    A:
    We seem to have the perfect team going right now, so nope, we don't need anyone else. Sorry! ;;

Q: Do you accept pet trades?
    A:
Nope, sorry. We love pets, but we prefer to get them "normal" ways. <3

Q: Do you accept bribes? How about for restricted things (MLPs, Lollypups)?
    A:
When you stop and consider what a bribe actually is, you realize we could never actually say "no" to this. However, we're not easily swayed, and so... unless it's something incredible, pretty please don't feel bad if we don't accept it.

Q: Why do DFA and Tofu have so many Numas?
    A:
Because we're horrible people who think only about ourselves, clearly!
