i haven't played one in years, i just wanted to know what pokemon you picked the first time you play either of these.

i usualy pick charmander.
harder to start out with but gets better

Charmander. Can't really explain why. Maybe because it evolves into a dragon.

Squirtle. Don't know why. Bulbasaur did look kinda crappy, and Charmander looked like an a**. (I didn't know that he later evolves into a very cool looking pokemon). Overall, I still think Squirtle is the best pick. He whoops first three gym leaders, and by the third gym leader I had a number of other pokemon. I didn't have a problem with any other gyms, either.
