I've only JUST gone out and bought myself a playstation 2. (Yes, I know I'm a bit behind in the times, but I grew up on Atari/Nintendo)

I have just recently gotten into the remarkable world of Final Fantasy. It started with FFX.. But I sort of wanted to start from the earlier games aswell.. So I bought a copy of FFVIII for my PS2...

The game is okay so far.. It's just that, WTF!!! EVERY TIME I GO TO SAVE, IT SAYS THE MEMORY CARD CHECKING FAILED!?

Hahaha. Do I have to get a PS1 memory card to save the game? sad

yeah u do, u can't save save a PS game on a ps2 memory card

Yes, you need a PS1 memory card, and I also suggest you buy FF7 and FF9, they are the best games I've ever played.

Don't buy second hand memory cards! Memory cards only have a certain life and if they are used already( especially unnofficial ones) you'll be lucky to have it last long!

I've got one of those $50 mega memory cards for ps1. 3nodding It has...360 slots altogether! And I actually didn't pay a dime for it, I stole it from my unce while he was away training for the Army. But anywho, Final Fantasy 8 is great and all, but I highly recommend buying 7 and Anthology and Origins. If you want to go old-school, there is no beating the first Final Fantasies ever created! But they're all good...except 10...and 10-2...and 11...

Ooh! I've got a tidbit of useless information that I just suddenly remembered! Did you guys know that Nobuo Uematsu, the composer of ALL the FF games since the 1st, refused to have anything to do with the creation of Final Fantasy 10-2? He said that a sequel to any of the Final Fantasy games was breaking a tradition and he didn't want anything to do with it. I really respect him for that, because I agree with him. A sequel should never have been done. But yeah, I wanted to share that with you guys. 3nodding

I agree. Don't buy used memory cards. You might get ones with corrupted data, and that can't be erased, as far as I know. I have corrupted data on my ps1 memory card. Besides, they're still inexpensive even for new ones. I think I've seen some at Wal-Mart for $15. Just look around and buy whatever is cheapest. 3nodding

And don't buy those wierd cheap-o Memory Cards, those things eat your data or get rid of them!
And those double save cards, where it stores double the data and all you have to do is press this little button on it.

i just started ff8 myself. haven't decided if i'm gonna be extremely obsessive over getting every last thing though. i'm relatively new the ff world, i've only beaten ff7 and ff10. i've also done kingdom hearts which is like a weird cousin of the ff series.

If you are looking for a good FF game try FF9 it was the best to me at least. FF8 was too slow paced.
