my parents almost sent me to catacism, or however its spelled when they found out i was atheist..... they should understand that i can believe what i want... what do you think?
There is a reason I have no real intention to tell my parents that I'm not Christian. There is a history of disownment in my family over major things like this.

Maybe when I'm on my own completly, but not for awhile yet.
It's always been a point of contention. My parents are conservative Jews, and I've been an atheist as long as I've had a concept of what people think God is. Took me thirteen ******** years for them to let me stop going to Hebrew School. So now I'm a bit on the antisemitic side.
no, my mother doesn't care...well in fact she's shocked that I believe in any type of faith...but then she calls herself a heathen. xd

I chose what I want to believe. I think that everyone should get that choice once they've learned and tried to experience different things. Well they should anyways, but if you take the time to learn about the differences ect. Then you have a firmer foot hold of what your values/beliefs are.

(edit, didn't notice the misspellings >.< wink

Catechism.

It's nice for parents to allow their children to develop their own religious sensibilities, but they're allowed to indoctrinate you.

I think they have the responsibility to educate you morally in whatever way they see fit, short of physical or emotional abuse. They're parents; it's their job.
i'm pretty lucky my father doesn't approve of my faith but he realizes that as much as he might not like it he realizes he's being close minded. As long as i put thought into what i do and am not simply following some cult, my parents are willing to let me do whatever i wish religiously. They do try and convince me on occasion that i'm wrong or tease me about my beliefs with things like this is my daughter the witch which is never good but for the most part it's established that i can believe whatever i wan to.

:'D When I nearly became an athiest, my dad, rather than freaking out, just mentioned faith, and then I went back on my Lutheran path.

But they didn't freak out. Just seemed a bit upset.
Since my parents view the organized religions of the world to be rather curious and bizzare and sometimes highly offensive entities of limited purpose and value, I think they'd be concerned if I closely affiliated myself with any of them. And, as I don't intend to, they won't have a need to dredge up hesitant parental support for some religious rebirth on my part.

No, I think your parents should tell you what to believe.

They have every right to make you their personal b***h (excluding the sexual sense of the term, of course), especially in terms of personal beliefs. Why? Because half of you mewling little pissants are incapable of forming a rational thought, or making wise and sane decisions for yourself. It's the same reason why you're not allowed to, say, vote, drive a car, drink alcohol, smoke tobacco, or exercise fully your First Amendment rights.

You owe your parents your entire childhood, and if you don't think so, just think of how much happier they'd be if your mom aborted your sorry ingrate a**. They allowed you to live. Therefore, they are allowed to tell you when and what you eat, drink, sleep, s**t, and profess. If they want you to be Catholic, you don't have a ******** choice. You get baptised, catechised, confirmed, and reconciled, just like a good little Catholic would. And if you don't like it, tough s**t. Your parents have to deal with similar pressures, what makes you think that you're exempt from all of it?
OMG, that's like asking whether they care if I do drugs! (I don't, by the way sweatdrop ).

If my Baptist parents ever found out I'm a Buddhism-influenced Deist, they would disown me...
