Welcome to N.I.P.S.
Hello, Gaia.
I've been around since November of 2003. I've seen a lot of changes take place on Gaia.
This one, however, in particular, really has me going.
All of a sudden, we're providing new users with an inventory-load full of items, including a fishing rod and house items?
..Really, what's with that?
What did you start out your time on Gaia with?
A peasant dress? A peasant shirt and pants?
We worked to get our items! We posted. We begged in charities. We asked for donations. We bumped. We did polls. Back in the day, we hunted for sponsor ads.
I remember when I earned my first 1000 gold... I got it by selling a long coat someone donated to me.. and I used it to buy emo glasses because my friends and I wanted matching pairs.
I remember making my first threads, and how rewarding it was to watch my posts add up as my gold increased.
I remember my first quest, for a duckie, and how freaking hard it was to raise 25,000 gold.
So why should these newbies get it handed to them on a platter? We're the Gaians who worked our asses off to get clothing. I spent my first month on Gaia in a hot top, goth boots, and some stupid skirt because I couldn't afford anything more.
I want to make this perfectly clear- I realize fully that newbs "nowadays" still work very hard to get the items that they want. I know that there will always be a desire to get better items, to have a better avatar, regardless of what you start out with. I am well aware that the items are very low-priced. This isn't so much about cost. This is about what it feels like to have that satisfaction of finally being able to afford shoes, a shirt, a hat, to suddenly have a fully-made avatar and not just one that you threw whatever you could afford on, you know? The same goes for housing items. I worked my a** off just to get a bed and a table when the housing feature came out. It was a feeling of pride when I finally got around to wallpaper.. rolleyes
I'm not here to argue, and get a big fight going about helping newbs and stuff, but..
If you are in favor of new users having to work for their items like everyone else, then support us. Wear peasant clothing.
Because at this rate, it's going to be more rarely seen than DJ's.
Oppose what Gaia's turned into, and how they've started to run the site.
Or would you really rather everyone else have this advantage? That they not understand what it was like for us? Perhaps it is a "back in the day" sort of sentiment, but is it not true? Not every new feature put into effect by the admins is for the better...
A lot of people who have posted here can explain the reasoning behind all this better than I could ever hope to, so stick around, read some of the posts, and try to see through our way of thinking.
That's how it goes. Deal with it. biggrin

7-1-06: So basically you guys have been SO freaking supportive and awesome that I can't even reply to all of the posts anymore.. I'm too far behind...! o~o Damn you and your... posting! And donating! Well.. no.. don't.. damn you. So.. if I didn't reply to your post, DON'T be sad. I read ALL of the posts, and do my very best to get all of the names and give credit where it is due. I'd love to talk as well, so if you did wanna say something and I never really got back to you.. IM me or send me a PM or something. ^ ^;;;;;
7-12-06: Wow.. The support here has been overwhelming. It's insane, guys. I love it, though. I apologize once again for being behind- I was out of town, but I'm working my hardest to catch up. ^ ^ Possibly the most frustrating thing in the WORLD is that every time I edit the post with the banners, all of the

Support peasant items... Support the way Gaia has been since it began... Support you.

Your Flavor of the Month
Signed. I'm one of those stingy oldbies that liked the old Gaia more,
That's how it goes. Deal with it. biggrin

Hrmm... I still say it's not an elitest thing. No one's saying the newbs shouldn't get anything. Myself, I could understand if they got one basic outfit, like the shorts, striped shirt, and sandals. Ok fine. I can go with that. Aside from one other shirt and the "punk" pants, I don't like anything else out of the n00b stuff anyway. But c'mon now. Why do they really need furniture to start off with? Most can't even get a house yet, let alone put furniture in it. I busted my bum trying to get money together just to put a few things in my house, let alone half the stuff they're "given" just for being new.

Admins...stop "improving" Gaia, would you? At the very least, make improvements that "oldbie" Gaians actually want. You remember us, right? The people who have actually been using Gaia? The loyal ones?

I apologize once again for being behind- I was out of town, but I'm working my hardest to catch up. ^ ^ Possibly the most frustrating thing in the WORLD is that every time I edit the post with the banners, all of the
tags change themselves to [code:1].. which.. basically nullifies them. :vein: It is REALLY annoying to go through and edit all of them every time. So.. uh.. that's why there's a bit of a delay on putting new banners up.. cause.. I like to get a couple before tackling that mess. X3 I  you all.
7-17-06: Phew, so I'm finally on the path, at least, to catching up with all of this. My goal is to just sit down and get through ALL of it and not let this happen again. Though I'm going to Vegas in about a month, who knows what will happen while I'm gone? o_O;;; Anyway, thank you all so much for your support. It really means so much to me... <3
Anywho.. dunno if you all know or not, but I'm an actor (actress isn't a word anymore, I guess..), and I'm currently in Twelfth Night by Shakespeare. I JUST started, so I don't even know what part I have yet, but I'm really looking forward to this; I absolutely love Shakespeare. However, this is going to put a sizeable damper on the time that I'm able to spend around. ~-~; I'll do my best to keep up, but if I slip behind, I'd just like to apologize. It's simply that the next four weeks are going to be pretty crazy. <3
8-1-06: Uhh.. read post on p404.. God, 404, guys. e_e; You're amazing..
8-11-06: I'm so sorry, you guys, but s**t's gone way downhill for me in real life. I'm getting over my illness, but I took a really nasty fall yesterday, and I had to go to the emergency room, and now I'm in crutches and can barely move.. I guess that's not really an excuse, because it's not like being on Gaia requires moving, but the problem is... the show opens tonight, and now there's no way that I can play my part.. and I don't know what to do now, and.. there's just been a lot of drama going on IRL and I'm so much pain.. so.. please allow me a bit of time to sort out real-life.. I'm so, so far behind, I have no idea how I'm going to catch up, I don't know, I'm going to have to like.. nix the signature idea or something, because I can't fathom having the time to go through 600-something pages, guys.. I'm so grateful for all of your support, but I've fallen way behind, and with so much going on unexpectedly IRL as well, I just.. really can't do this right now. I'll figure out what to do as soon as possible. I'm so sorry, and thank you a million times over for your extreme patience with me... <3
8-31-06: I'm back! Okay.. gonna deal with all of this now. XP Sorry... K, gimme a bit here.. gonna get back on track...

10-7-06: Hey, guys.. I've been deathly busy tonight, but I really appreciate that you've kept the thread going in my absence. Stuff is finally starting to calm down, so I'll try to be around a bit more if I can. Oh, and my senior homecoming's tonight. ^ ^; So I'm trying to get ready for that... ;~; I'm kind of sad it's my last one, but.. yeah, whatever. That's besides the point. Anyway.. thanks for everything. <3
