The transformation is a five stage process:
However, above all, each individual subject might react differently to the serums administered to them: changing at different rates, having more or less psychological side-effects, or becoming more or less animalistic in the end. This process is still highly experimental. The stages described as follows are averages.



Stage One - 0% - The subject has been injected with the initial preliminary serum to prepare their DNA for "gene therapy" but has yet to show any outwardly manifesting physical signs. The subject may feel ill during this period as a lot of stress can be put on the body, and time must be allocated for the serum to take effect before the first transformatinal serum can be administered. The character will look for all intents and purposes completely normal (and the art will reflect this). However, some animal DNA is incorporated in the initial injection in order to prepare the subject, and so things like eating habits, etc, can reflect that. Additionally, Doctor Moreau microchips each subject (in a location that makes removal impossible) in order to moniter their vitals and track where they are at any given time.



Stage Two - 25% - The subject at this point is given their first major injection of foreign DNA now that the system is prepared for it. The changes usually manifest up to a day after the injection, and usually occur over a period of several hours. Initial transformations tend to include periphery and realtively minor adjustments; for example their eyes may change, teeth and nails may sharpen, and a few patches of fur, scales, etc might appear. These changes will merely reflect what the subject will eventually be (useful for those who don't know). Some behavoiral changes may occur in some subjects even in this early stage. Dietary requirements often begin changing at this stage as well. Minor physical enhancements may begin to develop at this stage. ((Stage two is reached after a minimum of three weeks time from stage one, depending on artist speed and amount RP'd))



Stage Three - 50% - After a period of stasis following their first transformation (so as to not cause undue stress on the body or damage their DNA), they receive their tertiary injection. Within days of the injection, the character will undergo another transformation, manifesting very obvious animal traits, such as ears, or a tail, depending on their species injection. These changes will stack (or be further developments) of the changes from stage two. By this stage dietary requirements will be completely converted and physical enhancements may begin to really show themselves (such as increased agility and balance from a cat). Stage Four - 75% - After the fourth injection, the subject is well on their way through their transformation. They will for all intents and purposes appear extremely anthromorphic but they likely will not have completely developed (such as the muzzle may not be fully grown, the gross anatomical changes to body shape and musculature also likely haven't completely set in). Physical enhancements (if applicable) will increase as well at this point. Stage Five - 100% - On this final stage, after one last injection, the subject will complete their transformation into an anthromorph (or nonmorphic in some situations where the animal DNA has been more aggressive in the subject's system). Their abilities will be at their peak (and will likely not grow from here) and their form will be finalized. If the subject suffered from behavoiral changes they will be finalized here as well and the character will have reached their pinnacle.

Q: "How do I get one?"

A: Serums will be sold in limited quantities in either flat sales or auctions. Flat sales will require role playing submissions of interested parties who will be ranked and the sales offered in that order.

Q: "Can I have one? PLEASE????"

A: Of course, if you can purchase one in a flat sale or from an auction, these are original art and the wonderful artist's have to get paid rofl

Q: "Do you have payment plans?"

A: No.

Q: "Are these RP required?"

A: All flat sales will be role play required for the character to continue to change. Auctions will be role play optional, though the speed of your changes (for flat sales and auctions) will be based on the amount of role playing you do. If you do intend to purchase an auction and not role play, realize your changes will be much slower than a steady role player.

Q: "What happens if I don't RP them?"

A: If you purchased a flat sale and do not role play them they will not continue to progress through their transformation (no new art). I do request that if you start off role playing and intend to leave that you work out an "escape" senario with me.

NEW HOWEVER, as of the recent developments, and because the artists work on the art in advance it isn't fair for them to dedicate their effort and talents to art that will never see the light of day. If a player is inactive for so long, their character will be grown - slower than those who actively RP, but still grown. If you wish to rejoin teh RP you may and you can work something out with the GMs to explain lost time. There is more information on this on page 18352.

Q: "Can I play my transforming character in other RP threads around Gaia?"

A: The senario is that you are trapped on the island IN THE REAL WORLD, but we can speak about the possibility of escape and role playing the character across Gaia. Remember that flat sale growth is based on role play in the thread only though. This makes much more sense for purchasers of auctions.

Q: "Can they breed?"

A: Far be it from me to stop you from "doing it like they do on the discovery channel" (within T.O.S.) although at this time we will not be officially supporting breeding. The point of these characters are to play your own character in this setting. If you wish to copulate with another inhabitant we could work it out on a case by case basis. We can probably work out something with the Gaia Maternity and Fertility Clinic for a genetic child for this setting (an appointment would have to be set up as normal of course). HOWEVER, as the role-play takes course in pretty much real-time, your character would be pregnant for literally 9 real months before an infant would be born, that would develop as slowly as a real child. Therefore, it may not work out to have a quickly-growing child artwork.

Q: "Is the transformation a slow, gradual process, or does it happen in spurts?"

A: The first injection (for your 0% picture) is a preparatory injection that conditions the subject's DNA to be ABLE to change, and starts to harmonize it with the foreign DNA that is going to be introduced. This might result in an ill-feeling, perhaps some behavioral quirks, or something of the such. Since you are starting to incorporate animal (or plant) DNA, your character MIGHT feel some very basic changes such as diet preferences, etc. Following that, at the 25%, 50%, etc stages, the subject receives follow-up injections - after which the changes that appear on the cert happen in a relatively quick fashion - usually begining within 24 hours of the injection and lasting a few hours for the change itself. Then there is a period of stasis until the next injection.

Q: "My character isn't human, is that okay?"

A: Not for the role play setting; the impact of the transformation and the role play would be lessened by playing anything but a non-magical human. Additionally, for all outward appearances, the setting of the RP is modern, real world (aside from the Island itself and the existence of Feral Labs). If you wish to purchase an auction and have anything but a full nonmagical human, then you will not be given role play access. If you need some help adapting an existing original character into a modern Earth setting I'd be glad to help.

Q: "If I'm a bird can't I just fly off the island?"

A: The body mass of an anthro bird (even with hollow bones), would be too great to substain someone in flight without gigantic wings for any length of time. You will be able to flap up to trees and to glide around the island, but unfortunetly your wings won't carry you far off the island.

Q: "Can I become a fish-person and swim off the island?"

A: Any marine species are given an engineered serum to render them Fresh Water Only. If they try to swim off the Island (into the salt-water) they will feel negative side effects of being in saltwater quickly (google this information - it involves dehydration). Additionally, fish people will secrete a self-lubricant (like amphibians) to keep their scales moist when not in the water, and slowly transition from air-breathing to a primarily acquatic gill-system. When the transformation is completely, they will be able to respirate ("breathe" air) for up to about two-hours at a time. Regardless, this WILL be a role-playing challenge, however. Even marine mammals that would not be adversely affected by saltwater still have the chips in the back of their neck monitering their position and can be rendered unconscious with a keystroke, to be retreived by offshore patrolmen.

Q: "If I am already a subject, can I purchase another serum?"

A: You have a few options. But at this time, once you have a subject, you can no longer participate in flatsales/RP contests (unless otherwise noted) and must procure another slot through auctions. However, If you do get an auction slot, you have the choice of creating a new character to undergo a transformation (most reccomended option), "procure an antidote" for your existing character and start them along a new transformation, OR have their completed anthro-character become a different type of anthro in the same 5-stage process.

Q: "I want to be a Guest artist!"

A: If you want to be a Guest Artist, PM this account or otherwise notify Chibi Hige or Sabin Duvert. We keep a list of interested parties. When you do let us know - let us know if it would be for auction-only or if you'd be willing to do other events. We have a highly structured system for guest and staff artists that we will discuss with you if you are chosen. We promise no specific order that we will select you from, only that you will be on our radar for when we need artists.

Q: "Can I make my fursona into a subject?

A: This is a bit tricky. If you have a fursona that will fit the feel of the island that you want to start out as human and have progress into their anthro-form, that's fine. Do keep in mind that the setting is, once again, real-world and that your characters will come from a background where anthro animals are not a scientific or magical plausibility. HOWEVER, we really want to avoid the completely unnatural, unique combination animals that is not uncommon in the furry community. We have nothing against unique-designed fursonas (like blue and purple striped tigers, a wolf-emu hybrids with rams horns and cloven hooves, or iguana/fox-taurs with four sets of wings) for use on the Net, Furcadia, or other RP settings. BUT, this shop is not the place for such characters. Such characters are generally designed to be highly personal and unique based on physical appearance for art purposes in a massive online community that is overloaded with your standard fox or wolf morphs. This shop, on the other hand, is a smaller community where the characters are individuals who are distinguised as much based on personality and their 'pre-change' as they are their final form. Also keep in mind that for the combinations and additional features, there generally has to be an in-character reason the staff would choose to add these features to a character (like testing aggressiveness on personality with Chubb's combination, or attempting to create a 'dragon' with Zachary). Some of the strange combinations without a specific reason in mind, in general, is just very inplausible and breaks the feel of the island. Out of character, it might either make current subjects feel inadequate or initiate a 'one-upsmanship' chain that we really don't want to get into. In summary, when designing a combination creature, you may very well need staff approval to get the character on the island.

Addendum - You MAY, however, if you are able to procure a combination serum, pick two (or three) unrelated animals to go into your mixture. The staff very well might want to test more how those affect subjects. BUT, it will be up to the staff to determine the RESULTS of the combination. The only times the staff will use the more expensive (IC) refined combination serum is when they are shooting for a very specific effect (as stated above).


Q: "What happens if I have to leave Gaia for a while?" or "How do I play around a character that's been absent?"

A: If a character has not been played for a period of 3 months, then IN-CHARACTER, we will assume that something is wrong with them and they have been pulled into the labs for some reason (illness, problem with the serum, etc).

Usually, we assume that the RPs being held in the guild isn't reflective of EVERY SINGLE MINUTE of a character's life, and that from time to time they may see another character in passing that they don't necessarily RP with (in a lunch line, passing in the village, etc). However, with a player's absence, sometimes people are hesitant to ACTUALLY RP that the character is missing.

So, if a character is gone for longer than 3 months, we will make a post into their journal stating that their character is 'pulled away' and others may react as if that character really is missing.

If this happens to you, you'll need to contact the staff when you're ready to come back, and we'll work out what has been happening and RP with you to get you out.

But, please, if you plan on going on a hiatus, let us know <3

We want to also say that this is not a punishment for a player. This is for the sake of the other players to give an official validation that the character is missing so that they can react to it. Please do not feel bad about coming back if you have been haitusing, we want you back!

Q: "Can I voluntarily slow growth on my character?"

A: Yes you may. Sabin Duvert keeps track of the growth order, so if you want to forestall a change for RP reason or what not, get in contact with him and he will make a note of it, halting process until you tell him otherwise. We may impose a resonable maximum amount of time - as in the game if they wait TOO long before their next injection medical complications arise (and OOCly it is only fair to the artists to eventually be able to show off the art they've done ^~)

Q: "Do I have to pick my animal ahead of time/ Can it be a surprise?

A: It is a free option to anyone who gets a serum to let their animal be up to the staff to decide and let it be a surprise for you.

NEWQ: "What's goign to happen with the Future of the shop? The island can only hold so many subjects, right?"

A: We have a set goal in mind as far as the total number of subjects to allow this incarnation of the island. There is no simple way to explain it, but we have the full details of the rulings in a big post here:

This covers the subject cap, the fact that all islanders from that point will be taken to 100% before the metaplot comes into focus to some sort of climactic pinnacle.

This also includes that we will begin growing islanders who have been inactive..

[Q.]I'm a bit confused on growth and growth times? Can you clarify.

[A.]Sure. Here is the base growth table.

25%: 3 weeks from arrival on the island
50%: 6 weeks since last change
75%: 12 weeks (3 months) since last change
100%: 16 weeks (4 months) since last change

If the art is available, and the character has had 3 or more RPs since their last change, their growth will occur on time unless asked to be put on hold by the GMs. Please keep in mind that "on time" is approximate, we cannot guarantee the growth the exact date they are "due." Growths will happen about once a week.

If the art is available, and the character has had less than 3 RPs since their last change, their growth will be delayed by approximately 1 month, to allow time to catch up or contact the GMs.

If there are less than 3 RPs since their last change, a transformation post will not be written for the character.

The guild features an interactive role play setting, with plots and subplots about the goings on of the island everywhere. The roleplay also takes place over a relatively real-time basis. Therefore, a week in the real world is a week in character. The date in game is the same as the date IRL. Of course, some flexibility is granted as far as timing for RP purpopses.

The Island and the RP is a HORROR-BASED setting. While of course the characters may very greatly in their attitudes, and level of optimism, what is happening to the characters is usually unwilling, they are virtually imprisoned on an Island, and monitered 24/7. Bad Things might happen to the characters. The changes are unpleasant and painful, and some of the mid-stages might be very un-aestetic and limiting (movement, eating habits, etc). Please take this into consideration when developing or considering questing for a character. The characters aren't supposed to be over-the-top anime heroes, action movie assassins-for-hire, or a tough-as-nails American gangsters with a Japanese name. They are people that could believably be your friends, neighbors, an eccentric Uncle or Aunt, a professor at your University, or even you. They are likely used to a relatively normal lifestyle, the little things, and are unused to such a drastic change. Keep them realisitic. Of course, characters likely have something special about them or you wouldn't want to play them, but don't overdo things.

Doctor Moreau is a character (which will be role played by Chibi Hige owner and concept creator of the shop) who is responsible for the monitoring of the "subjects" he has so kindly begun transforming. As mentioned earlier Journals will be updated as the subject "progresses" and gains new physical traits or enhances existing ones, allowing the subject to role play all this out.

As Doctor Moreau I will keep watch over the role play threads in the guild. Remember, Dr. Moreau (or one of the other staff, such as Dr. Duvert or Dr. Lockheart) is ALWAYS watching wink

Of course there will be various generic NPCs (lab assistants and guards) and Special Player Character (SPCs) of: Aubrey Lockheart who is his assistant and 2nd in command of the Island over all of the other scientists. Dr. Sabin Duvert is one of the few head scientists/managers below Aubrey. He oversees a team of lower researchers to develop and work on serums.

But the focus of everything is you. As all of the subjects and the changes they are undergoing will be very much an aspect of the role play. Some subjects will be more prone to behavoiral changes possibly, while others perhaps not (player's choice of course).

Role playing will be mostly free-form, but Certain boundries will be in place of course. (Read the Guild Lobby for more information). First, escape is impossible (unless we work it out in advance because you wish to leave the role play for the time being). Secondly, Dr. Moreau isn't to be harmed, the security measures in his own home and his ability to know where the inhabitants of his island are at any time make that impossible. Third, the devices which allow him to monitor your biometrics cannot be removed without killing your character (how else am I to create journals?).

The Island itself is located somewhere in the fabled Bermuda Triangle. This serves its purposes by providing an almost in-born excuse as to why there might be mysterious disappearances in its viscinity and deter some from looking too hard for further explanations/the Island itself.



Remember, this is a Modern Earth setting often times using alternate versions of your avatar or character, but since it is an Alternate Universe this should be no reason to stop role playing the character as you have previously in other threads. Remember, the role play is intended for a full nonmagical human, so the shock factor of the change will be stronger likely than it would with a typical fantasy or Gaia set character.

When coming up with a character who will become a subject of Dr. Moreau's experimentataions (or using an existing OC) there are SEVERAL ways in which they could have come to the Island and start the Roleplay. Here are just a couple suggestions/options:

• The character signed up for a medical study, expecting to be monetarily compensated for their time, and would require a "short" visit to the facilities.
  
• The character "won" a free vacation to an Island retreat!
  
• The character's medical records were flagged by one of the lab assistants shore-side as someone who would take to the serums particularly well, and was contacted, concerned about a "medical condition" that would need immediate specialist attention.
  
• The subject was a homeless/down on their luck/runaway individual and heard the offer of free room/board on an Island retreat and leapt at the chance.
  
• The character heard about the Island through special sources and is excited about the concept - and wants to be a test subject. (This might take some working through as the island is TOP secret).
  
• The character is with the media or some government group that has heard a rumor about the Island and is coming to the Island to expose and/or stop the research, and ends up a subject.
  
• The character was shipwrecked/planecrashed on/near the Island.
  
• The character saw a false add in the paper offering employment.
  
• Employees breaching the Feral Laboratory's confidentiality agreement.
  
• The character has heard rumors that people have been disappearing in the viscinity of the Island, and you've gone to investigate to find out why!
  
• The character had been a chronic abuser of serum 45 (see below in the serums section) and is looking for a more permanent enhancer.
  
• Someone Moreau knew (and perhaps had an animosity with) from beofore he started up the Island

With my father's passing my inheritence comes to me finally. I have already found the perfect island to realize my dream. I have hired construction and begun my most ambitious achievement. The one that will realize me as the greatest geneticist the world has ever known. I have near perfected the serum and done what they swore could not be. In a few short years the island will be prepared to accept "volunteers".

2nd of August, 2005
The island is prepared, it is now not only luxurious but completely inescapable, the labs are prepared, the staff appropriately loyal. I have also aquired on Aubrey Lockheart, a slightly foolish but scientically brilliant girl whom I knew in high school and some in college. The facilities are opened, subjects are being "acquired", then the greatest scientific experiment ever will begin.

Interests: Monsters, Stories, and Moreau's Project
Background: Not much is known about Dr. Duvert save that he contacted Dr. Moreau shortly into college when he heard rumor of some of Moreau's more.... eccentric interests. Unlike many professors, however, Sabin's interest was piqued.
Quirks:Sabin tends to dress rather old-fashionedly, and has some rather drastic mood-swings: from friendly and excitable to downright manipulative and dark.

Name: Ginerva MacFroo (Emerwyn)
Age: 28
Interests: Mutilation, Horror, Kittens (don't ask...)
Background: As a youth, was very intelligent, but had a very disturbing, over-active imagination. Went to college on full scholarship, but was kicked out in her freshman year for unethical experiments in the school labs, and physical abuse to fellow students. Was to be comitted to a mental instution, when Doctor Moreau, having heard of her intelligence, achievments, and particular interests, got her out (money is the universal language) and employed her at the island. She now looks forward to being able to conduct her sick research undisturbed. However, that may not be true.
Attitude: Seemingly reclusive, until approached. At which point she will talk endlessly about her bizarre obsessions. When she gets excited, she will giggle ceaselessly, and her eyes will light up maniacally.

Name: Robin "Bilious" Fergusson

Apparent Age: mid-twenties

Interests: Monster movies, B-horror films from the sixties through the eighties, mythology and monsters througout history, genetic experimentation and stem-cell manipulation

Background: An eager grad-student with a lust for the possibilities evolution has for not only mankind but for all creatures and questionable morals regarding the continued research on the subject. Robin sought an internship with Feral labs, only to be delighted by the prospect of continuing research on The Island where she could be free to see what monstrocities could be unleashed on a molecular level.

Quirks:Often quiet and obsorbed in her work, she has constantly gotten in trouble with Moreau and her other employers for taking things in what could be concidered a less than palatable outcome. She is most interested in the disgusting and the torturous. She is horribly self concious about her work and her own personal traits.

Name: Doctor Marlena Frost
Apparent Age: Thirty-five
Interests: The Human Psyche, Hallucinogenics, Hegelian philosophy, Intersubjectivity, Biochemistry, and Moreau's Project
Background: Dr. Frost was a highly regarded Psychoanalyst with a dual doctorate in Psychiatry and Biochemistry. She was disbarred when it was discovered her chemical solutions were being used less to help her patients, than to put them through hallucinogenic, pain, and trust experiments in which she manipulated them to the degree that their perception of reality failed, and their personalities took 180 degree turns. She was not above using torture techniques and hallucinogenic drugs to drive her experiments on the Human Psyche's malleability. Before she could be arrested for her crimes, she faked her own death and presented her resume to Dr. Moreau in the hopes that he would have use for her skills.
Quirks:Those she worked with nicknamed her, behind her back of course, the Ice Queen. Frigidly cold in personality, with a deep and abiding blackness of soul and no regard for the feelings of her test subjects, Frost is a master manipulator and her very presence, in it's intensity of studying others with that chill gaze, can often be disturbing.
