Welcome to Gaia! ::

Dangerous Lunatic

Yeah, I've been trying to record some of these old home movies (and a few really old 8mm movies that were converted onto vhs) to dvd disks so that I can give them to the family and such... Well, I've fixed the problem where it would freeze up after a few seconds of recording, but now I'm moving onto the problem of no audio.

I've switched the audio input to microphone and hooked the line into it... but still nothing comes through. Any suggestions?

Are you recording your media from the camera directly into Pinnacle, or camera to PC, or VCR to PC, or VCR to Pinnacle?

Its VCR to PC and the program to pick it up is Pinnacle Studio 8.

Elder

Sorry. I'm kinda screwy today. Give me a second.

Okay.

This is a guide on how to capture stuff with a Pinnacle DC1000 or DC2000...
I'm not sure if that has relatively same atmosphere of 8, or if it's a different program..

Actually, I'm not entirely sure about Pinnacle in itself.

But, regardless.

Explain your setup of connecting the VCR to the PC. Right now I'm thinking it's probably a cable alignment problem...

EDIT:
Gah. curse gaia.
{original edit that was eaten by Gaia:}
I am an ignorant a*****e.
Okay, you set the audio imput to microphone?
So go into your master audio controls in your taskbar and see if your line-in audio is muted, or if any other of your audio settings are muted or turned down obscenely.
Then, go into control panel and see if your recording settings are correct with your setup.
After that, I am not sure how pinnacle works, but make sure you have the audio import/export/recording enabled, as some programs don't automatically do that.

Sorry for my ignorace.
Like I said, off day...

Well, I have the Purple input box setup for the Radion card and I have the input for the video stuck into that. The other cords for the output and stuff are hooked into the Input for my audio (said in manual to hook it up like that or I won't get any sound).

I've tried putting the one audio input (output from VCR to the computer) for my VCR into the Left and right audio speaker terminals from my video card, and I've also tried putting it into the Line In, and Microphone terminals for my sound. All these don't seem to work, even when I change it around in the config for Pinnacle Studio.

Elder

You
and I've also tried putting it into the Line In, and Microphone terminals for my sound.

In the master volume in the control panel and/or taskbar?

EDIT:

OMG I'm an idiot.

Bare with me. Sorry about this. sweatdrop

In the manual for Pinnacle doesn't it state where you should put the audio cord?

If it does and you've tried everything, the only thing I can think of that could be wrong is something within the master volume in the taskbar/control panel.. In my first edit. stressed

Well, I thought it was perhaps the individual sound level controls for the different lines, but as I've earlier stated, I've almost tried everything including raising that to the top levels.

The Pinnacle Studio 8 software came with the video card and was not bundled with a manual or anything. The help file goes on, and on, and on about how to edit in music from CD's, MP3's, and other devices, but not how to edit it in from a direct line in. Technically I should be able to do it because the options for audio recording with the video are present.

Elder

Grrrr.

Okay, I went to the Pinnacle website to try to access their FAQ, but apparently all it's about is ripping DVDs(And there's FREE stuff that will do that).

All I can suggest is that you should go to your help file and search for keywords "Audio imput"

or "Import audio"

Or even "Capture audio"

Getting the audio from your VCR isn't editing it at all, so all I can say is that you're looking in the wrong spot in the help file.

I've never used Pinnacle and I'm not familiar with the program, so I am only guessing at various things from my expierence with stuff..(But then again I usually only rip DVDs, and when I do capture from my VCR it's with the crappiest hardware of all time - WinTV)

So I can say is I hope the help file has something, or someone more familiar with Pinnacle pops into this thread.

I'll start a thread at animemusicvideos.org forums, where they know a hell of a lot about capturing video and I'll get back to you sometime, but right now it's just hoping.

Sorry I am not much help...

Well... I know I'm not looking in the "wrong" area of the help file because it has nothing on "Import Audio" or "Input Audio" or anything to do with Audio if you type in "Input"... I get a bunch of "input video" and all that, but nothing to deal with Audio.

If I had, I wouldn't have started a thread here.

I'm not saying you're stupid or anything(Unlike myself), I was just trying to cover the basics...

Is the thread I started at the .org... They may post here or there. Let's just hope they post somewhere and soon...
