I know some Teabagger is going to come in here and get all pissy because I said this, but I just need to put this out in the open.

So, when Obama was elected, there were a lot of protests from the Right accusing him of being a socialist, terrorist, totalitarian, Hitler... Every bad name you can think of. However, after seeing how little they knew of totalitarianism, Hitler and socialism, I started to draw my own conclusion:

They don't hate Obama because he's a liberal. They hate him because he's black and he has a funny name.

I personally think Obama's election was a huge step forward. (I don't really care what you think.) We've made progress as far as race. If a black man can be president, than it won't be long until we have a woman in office. Or a Latino or an Asian.
I think that's amazing.

Buuuut.... It sickens me to see that there are so many folks who hate someone because of the color of their skin.

I agree. I may not like some of the things Obama has done BUT when you bring racism into the picture its not right. I've told this to friends before and I'll continue to say it..I don't care if a candidate is baby puke ******** green and they stand for what I BELIEVE in than they have my vote. Color shouldn't be in issue but it is..

Yes, there were people who don't like him because he's black. However, many people didn't like him because they didn't think he was a good candidate. But, instead of realizing this, many of Obama's supporters are saying that we're racist just because we don't like him.

When he ran for presidency, I wasn't surprised, nor excited, nor shocked that there was a black candidate. As a community, America has come so far, and though racism is not completely gone, it is certainly much less common and dieing at a wonderfully quick pace.

Which brings me to my next point. I dislike Obama because I don't think he's a good president. Oh, sure, Bush left us in a terrible state, but Obama only made it worse. And he promised 'change', which I'm assuming he meant as good change, yet I've seen no good change. I, and more than you seem to believe, don't give a flying ******** what his skin colour is. He could be black, white, hispanic, asian, HE COULD BE PURPLE WITH PINK STRIPES FOR ALL WE CARE. He's not a good president, and I hope to god he isn't reelected. I know it's a dream destined to be crushed, but one can still hope.

Nope. The U.S. hasn't advanced that far in racial matters (remember that he's only half-black, and acts like a politician which is a race of it's own), and they don't hate him because he's black. They hate him because it's a polarized political spectrum and he's on the opposite side of them. Same reason they hated Gore, Edwards, both Clintons, Gore, etc.

There is a point though. American people are very closed minded. Why do you think so many people are up in arms about his religion?

There are also plenty of xenophobic people criticizing him... I've seen plenty of people say along the lines of "his father wasn't a US citizen, so that makes him not a natural born citizen". Which is a load of garbage.

A lot of people even gave flack to JFK for being Catholic instead of Protestant.

So yes, while it's not entirely race fueled, you have to admit that some of the statements are. Just like Mitt's statement that he'd have an easier time if he was Latino. If you can say that "oh, people are only voting for him because he's black" then the opposite side of the coin also exists.

Just like people constantly accusing him of being Muslim because he has dark skin and a funny name.
