Using the tip of his athame, he draws a circle on the ground. He lights a few convenirntly located candles and seizes a nearby broom, wherewith he sweeps the circle clean of dust and dirt. He stands in the center of the circle and looks in each of the four directions, asking the guardina of that direction to commune with him.
