Over a year ago, the infamous criminal outfit known as Team Rocket devised the method to create the ultimate weapon: humans with the powers and abilities of Pokémon. Their top researchers and scientists developed a machine to fulfil this goal, named Project Cataclysm. Then, one day during the summer of last year, the time came to test Project Cataclysm on living subjects. At first, the machine was a complete success, and the first human Pokémon was created. But, then, due to an unknown error, that was never discovered, the machine went haywire and exploded, creating a one-off energy wave of what was then called Omega Radiation. This radiation encircled the globe in the space of a second, and struck down many people that it came across, as well as the Pokémon nearest to them, an equal number of both humans and Pokémon. It was there for one second, and then it ceased. All traces of the Omega Radiation were lost, but the same could not be said for the consequences of its creation.
The people and Pokémon struck down by the energy wave were knocked unconscious or put to sleep, and when they awoke, the found that they had been transformed, fused with the Pokémon that had fallen with them. No one understood what was happening, and many thousands of people panicked, fearing the new race of people that suddenly came into existence. Many theories were thrown around, but none seemed to fit. Only one thing was for certain: they were not safe. But, some knew better than to accept that as fact. They banded together, and formed the Academy, a safe haven for the people affected by the Cataclysm. Located on the remote island of Osakura, in the middle of the Kantonian Sea, the school was built and completed, all in the hopes that one grand goal could be achieved: Sanctuary.
Meanwhile, dark forces are stirring, in the ruined remains of the Team Rocket Base in Celadon City. The newly-formed Gijinka division of Team Rocket, known as the Hunters, are recruiting young Gijinka to join their ranks, through deception, torture, murder, and going as far as hypnotism in extreme cases. Their plan: to overthrow the human leaders of the world with sheer power and brute force, and take their 'rightful' places as rulers of civilisation. In answer to this, the Headmaster of the Academy - the Last Lugian, Larson Hearse - created the school with a tertiary motive: to stand as a barrier between the semi-peaceful existence of the Gijinka, or the fullblown annihilation of humanity at the hands of the Hunters.
Still, there is much more than meets the eye in this world; a political war between Gijinka rights group G.E.R.M. (the Gijinka Equal Rights Movement,) and the Humans and Pokémon Forever League, (H.A.P.F.L.) currently rages throughout the walls of the World League, with each side placing manifestos on the table; one offering Gijinka the same rights and entitlements as humans, and the other intending to make it official that Gijinka are abominations lower than humanity. You are now given the opportunity to join this fight, as a Gijinka of GERM, the Academy, or the Hunters, or a human of GERM or the HAPFL, and alter the course of the world's future as it should be. Only one question remains to be answered:
Which will you choose?
