"It wasn't me that changed the feather into a dead bird, I wouldn't know how. It was the teacher, Mrs. Prince I think her name is. She had good motives. The bird is larger and heavier than a feather; also, it would be easier to transform a feather into something it had already been a part of than to change it into something random. And you reviving it just made it infinitely harder than if it were dead," Yukino said and called the teacher over, asking if she could immobilize the bird.
The bird suddenly stopped flying and the teacher retrieved it. It landed softly on the desk. Yukino closed her eyes and repeated the hand motions from before, concentrating harder than the first time. The bird lifted about a foot off the desk and its eyes swiveled around in abject terror at the uncontrollable movement. Yukino released the magic slowly and allowed the bird to float back down onto the desk, its eyes still held the panic at not being able to control it's own movements. She smiled slightly at her success but yearned to release the trapped bird. She closed her eyes again and placed her hands over the birds soft black feathers. Yukino grasped the magic that bound the bird and released it. The bird hopped onto its feet and flew over to the window where it began tapping on the glass frantically. The teacher raised the window slightly and the little bird flew out into the blue sky.
"I suppose congratulations are in order, Miss Miyazawa," the teacher said, sounding every bit like her beloved cousin Severus Snape ((Sorry I had to do it. As some of you may know, Snape's mother's maiden name was Prince.)), and returned to her desk, " Just read you text book for the rest of class."
Yukino blushed and stared down at the open book, inwardly glad about the praise.
