"How was my accent?"

Gabriel laughed. So, it seemed like parents everywhere were paranoid. He knew that his mother was only worried about him because when she was very young, her older sister had been brutally raped and murdered when she left the house alone one night to go to the grocery store. He completely understood his mother's sentiments, however, it was annoying sometimes to have to check in so often.

When Tal mentioned needing to get home, Gabriel agreed. He was pleased when the blond offered to show him around and agreed that they should hang out at a later date. When Tal bounded away on his bike, Gabriel fished his phone out of his pocket. There was a text message from his mother asking him to stop by the store and get some milk and pasta for dinner that night. He sighed and strolled to his car. At least he had seen a store on his way here: Wal Mart. He had heard that they sold EVERYTHING. Time to test that theory.

He got into his yellow Prius and started the engine. Getting out of the school's parking lot was easy, and finding the store just as easy. When he got inside, finding the pasts proved a little difficult, but finally he made it to the check out line, milk and angelhair in hand.

The cashier caught his eye. She seemed to be around his age, but darkly beautiful. He smiled at her warmly, hoping to catch her eye, too. He let her ring up his purchases, then headed home.

"Just because I cannot see it..."

~~~~~~X~~~~~~
His long, lean legs carried him out of the school and around to his car, a cherry-red Corvette convertible, waiting for him in the parking lot. He pulled his phone from his pocket as he leapt over the side of the car and dropped into the black, leather bucket seat, hitting a speed-dial button and pressing the phone to his ear. "Hey, Samantha? Yeah, I just got your message. What's up?" He spoke as he started his car and pulled out, cruising through town at a sedate 25 miles per hour, his gaze absently roaming the sidewalks.
"Listen, I realize how hard it must have been for you to call and ask me to Homecoming, but I'm not even sure that I'm going. I heard that Jason asked you, why don't you go with him? He was pretty beat up when you turned him down, you know?" He grinned as he talked, then pulled the car over and climbed out to head into the Wal-Mart, shoving his keys into his pocket. "Hey, he doesn't ever have to know he was your second choice, okay? Alright, see you around, Sam. Bye." He flips the phone closed and tucks it into his back pocket before grabbing a basket and steering it deeper into the store. Time to focus on picking up the groceries on the list and getting out as soon as possible, trying to ignore the annoyance creeping through his brain. God, how he hates grocery shopping in the afternoon.
"What?" Kassidy said quietly when he spoke suddenly, pulling her from her thoughts. She quickly processed his statement, and nodded. "Oh, yeah." She added quickly in reply, not wanting to seem a dolt. She rolled her eyes minutely when he asked if she was having fun. She gave a scoffing chuckle. "Oh, loads of fun. I just can't get enough of the same ungrateful biggots coming here and arguing over prices." She said sarcastically, shaking her head. She always had people try to buy something with a sticker on it saying is was way less in price than it actually was. She knew the trick. They'd simply taken it off of another item that actually was on sale and stuck it on the item of their choice. Didn't they realized that the sales were also entered in on the computers? They must think her a simpleton if they actually thought they could get away with that ruse.
Kassidy took the credit card without question, despite his appearance not matching exactly. She knew people that were worse dressed than he was who owned a credit card. Granted, they ended up with more debt than they could handle, but that was their problem, not hers. As soon as she's swiped the card and typed in the confirmation code, she handed it back to him with the receipt so he could sign it. She'd give him his copy when she got the signed one back.
When the male introduced himself, she managed a small smile. "Well, Alexander," She said, raising a brow, "I am Kassidy." Kass had no reason not to tell the man her name. It was on her name tag after all, so he probably already knew it anyways.
Her eyes went to the newly arrived customer in line. This one looked familiar, too. Is it national Wal-Mart day or something? She jested in thought as she made herself return the smile. Her boss could be watching her, so she had to be nice to the customers, no matter how attractive, or unattractive, they were. Thankfully, she was having a good start, with two good-looking guys in a row.
Wes hesitated for a moment, then let her down gently from his arms. He chuckled a bit when she asked about flirting. "Well that depends, did it work at all?" Wes asked, taking a step forward, a mischievous twinkle in his hazel eyes. "At least I didn't do the stereotypical 'I lost my volleyball' line" he chuckled. He adopted a very dopey look, and said in his funniest dumb guy voice, "I just lost my volleyball, it's about this big..." Wes flexed his Biceps in an O shape around his stomach, "It went that way," He said, flexing his pecks and biceps and pointing down the hallway with one arm, "And it had a Nike symbol on it," He finished, Forming a Nike symbol with his arms and Flexing just about everything.
He had to admit, even he was giggling. He really knew how to make fun of himself, even if he wasn't that dumb. He was still a bit of a muscle head. "So, do you think that you can walk without passing out again, or do I have to walk you home?" Wes asked, smiling like a fool. He knew she could make it home in one piece, but he couldn't resist the opportunity to flash a girl in Amanda's face. Luckily, water polo practice had been canceled on account of the coach getting sick. Wes thought of it as a lucky break.
Avery was now at her neighbors she had five minutes left til her babysitting was over, thank god. Will and Ivan were twins and they loved to make a mess in any possible way, and Avery wasnt enjoying it. Scrubbing the floor and trying to keep the walls from small dirty hands nice and clean. She sighed relief when she heard the door open and the two boys rushed to greet their mother. "Hello Mrs. Darcy" she said sweetly, putting her hair into a small ponytail. "Why thank you so much Avery and have a nice day" thats what all she said and Avery just left with a small smile on her face. Tired and still somewhat cranky, Avery still had to go buy some groceries and finish homework. Her blues eyes twinkled in the sun, and her hair flew around in the small breeze. People walked past her, giving her odd looks at the way she was dressed and probably the food stains the twins left on her face. Trying to find a clean window to look at for a reflection, she started to wipe as much of the food off her skin. "Much better" she thought.
This was Avery's almost everyday schedule: school, work, babysitting, shop, and then homework. It was alot for just one girl, but withpout a mom or dad to help she would just have to suffer a little more. What really huanted her the most was the boy that was in her life, she so badly wanted to know who he was and who was she. Was her name really Avery? did she ever have a family? what happened to other member? All these questions just buzzed through her head, as she finally got to the safeway. Her cell phone vibrated, knowing that it was probably her boos, she ignored it. Grabbing a small beasket, she started wlaking along the aisles, looking for something to eat for dinner tonight. "Maybe some chicken otr maybe fish" she muttered to herself as she countinued down the aisle.
An hour almost passed as she finshed her shopping and with what little money she had, she could take the bus home. A frown came upon her face, she needed some rest but homework needed to be done first. "Home sweet home" she said, as she got off the bus and was walking the two flights of stairs to her apartment. It wasnt much, just enough for her and her lonelyness. Inside was a kitchen, and what someone would guess to be a living room and a bedroom. Her room was plain, the walls a light green and her bed the same color. A small dresser for her clothing and on top a picture frame with no picture inside of it. Taking her bag, she dumped all her school work and started sorting through it. "Okay first math, then english and then...." Avery sighed, frustrated that she had so much on her hands.
Marshall Collen Greene
Argh!
User Imagexxx
Marshall nodded slowly as – to his relief – the girl, Alex, he now found, didn’t seem to take his blurted-out compliment as anything too meaningful. “I’m Marshall. Marshall Greene.” And after another pause of awkward silence, Marshall stood, uneasily scratching the back of his head as he thought about what to say next. He honestly didn’t know anymore. The whole thing with his uneasiness around girls was coming back to him, now, and Marshall could only make up an excuse for himself to leave. “I…uh…gotta go, now. See you later…I guess.” Straightening up, he gave an awkward wave before starting out off campus. The excuse was half-true, at least, because Marshall had signed up for a job at the local café because of much pestering and blackmailing from Maddie Best – the girl who had kissed Marshall when he was ten and had established his slight fear of females.
Sighing as he approached the front of the café, Marshall ignored the little tinkling bell sound as the door opened and he stepped in. Maddie, as expected, was already standing behind the cashier, her eyes twinkling as she stared at Marshall instead of the customer in front of her. Inwardly groaning, Marshall rolled his eyes and dropped off his stuff in the staff lounge before tying the uniform apron around his neck and waist and joining his nemesis at the counter. “Hey, sweetie,” she chirped playfully nudging his right cheek with her left one as she giggled. Marshall swatted her away nonchalantly, apologizing to the customer before helping the patron out with their latte.
A few minutes after he’d helped some other customers, the café grew still, and Marshall gladly took this free time to lean against the counter and shut his eyes, hoping for some sleep. Unfortunately for him – no sleep. Maddie was right there, blabbing about some shopping spree she’d gone on with one of her best friends the weekend before, and what she was planning on doing the upcoming weekend. “Say, sweetie,” she suddenly exclaimed, and as Marshall peered at her from the corner of his eye, he caught her temporarily serious expression. “Isn’t Homecoming for you guys this weekend?” Insert hand-to-palm.
Marshall gulped, knowing that if he said yes, Maddie would insist on being his date, and that if he said no, she’d accuse him of lying and make a scene. “Uhh…” was the only thing he could think of, and even that earned a serious glare. “The answer is yes, isn’t it?” Maddie growled through gritted teeth, crossing her thin arms over her chest. Crap.
Kyle was enjoying the quiet at the park. Biggest lie of his life. Kyle was not one to just sit and relax in the quiet atmosphere. He always had to be active. Yet here he sat on a bench at the park. He had half the mind to just get up and dance around on the bench. It would be active, it would be fun, and it would keep Kyle from falling asleep. Also there was no one around to see him do it. No one had come around the park since Kyle had gotten there. Sure, there were a few people that came and went but they were older people and mothers with small children. Not people that Kyle would generally go up to and talk with.
Kyle was thinking about heading home when someone came up to him. He noticed her start to approach him and he looked her over to see if he knew who she was. She looked to be about his age and he knew he had seen her around school. Finally her name came to his mind. Kari. Kyle couldn’t think if he had a class with her or not. Classes just seemed to blend together for Kyle. Just the minutes ticking down till he could leave the confines of school and actually have some fun. When Kari greeted Kyle he looked at her and smiled. ”Hey. What brings you to the park?” He was normally always interested in what others did and why they did it. He was curious.
                              Izzie was already out of class as the final bell rang, signlaing the end of school. She had 7th period open, and was using that time to good use. She was holed up in an empty classroom, spare posters spread all around her. Homecoming was in a few days, which meant dancing and fun. Ordinarily Izzie enjoyed a good dance as much as anyone, but today, that dance was Homecoming. Which meant, down the line, Homecoming Court. Izzi frowned as she painted over her posters, already showing disdain for the word.
                              She hated labels, and labeling people as Queen, King and such? Please! Why put people through all that, to have the vast majority of the student body be treated like freaks under the few 'chosen beauty'...airheads. She finsihed her last poster with a particularly hard thrust of paint, and the red splattered onto the carpet below. "Crud..." She took a paper towel from the pile she gathered, now trying desperatly to wipe the stain clean. All she needed was a charge on defacing school property, to add on to her already bulging file.
                              The stain was wiped as best she could, and now she diverted her attention to the posters. There were five in all, with a failry basic design. A white background, with words just simple painted on. "No Judging The Human Race", and "Homecoming Court=Homecoming Jail" were the phrases she wrote most often, feeling they embodied her views exactly. Grabbing a single poster, she tied up her shoulder length hair back into a ponytail, and shrugged off her denim jacket, to now put on a silk sari over her clothes. From expereince she leanred that making an image was crucial, so she jutted out her chin proudly, walking down the hall in her pink and red silk Indian dress, the sequin and bangles hanging off the tassles making their own melody as she made her way outside.
                              Past all the crowds beginnning to form from her dress, she made her way to the grass outside the school, the main street in front of her. Already in position was a wooden crate she nabbed back at home, and atop it she jumped, slightly teetering on the crooked surface. Then, with a sudden vigor, she thrust her sign up, trying to discourage students from involving themselves in the self-decimating tradition that was Homecoming. "THINK OF ZE MAJORITY, NOT ZE MINORITY!" Her battle cry was called out, having a melodic ring to it as her accent, an exotic sound due to her family. Her foreign roots often gave her unwanted attention, for she could care less about how she sounds. Some began to gather now, wanting to see what 'Zany Izzie' was doing now. She called out, poster over head, determined to yell out for hours if she had to.
Alex Rose
Beauty
Alex was a little thrown off by Marshall’s introduction and then quick departure. She gave him a small smile before he left. ”Uh…Yeah I’ll see you around.” After Marshall left, Alex turned her attention to her book where she had her place marked with her finger. She thought about going back to her reading but then put the book aside. Alex just didn’t feel like reading about the “Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” right now.
After Alex had put her book away she looked around trying to see if her brother had showed up yet. A quick glance told her that he was not. She wondered what kept him so long. It wasn’t like he would forget what time school let out. He had only graduated two years ago. He should remember these kinds of things. Not to mention that Alex had reminded him that morning. Suddenly, Alex’s phone started vibrating in her backpack. Alex took her phone of the pocket and saw that she had a text from the very brother who wasn’t there to pick her up. ”Hey Al, Met this amazing girl at the mall. Got to talking. You can find yourself a ride home right? Thanks a lot sis!” Alex set her phone down. Unbelievable! Her brother hadn’t forgotten about her. He just got sidetracked with a girl. Typical! Alex sighed and thought about what she could do. She didn’t know how she would get home now. She saw that Kyle, one of the only people she actually could call a friend, had already taken off.
"Yes!" Avery yelled, jumping and up and down like a little child. She had finally finished all her homework and even managed to the extra credit on each of the assignments. This time she gently put her stuff into her so called backpack and not shovoing it in like it was a damn piece of trash. She had already eaten dinner, even though it wasnt all that late. "Maybe a walk or i could go to the mall" she said happily, grabbing her coat out of the closet. Opening her phone, she saw that she had five different text messeges all from her boos wanting her to come back and help with cleaning. "hah! yea right" she thought, pretending to text her boss back. Another frown came to her face, as Avery went through her contact's list, she had only two contacts. "The police and my boss" she said sadly.
Avery didnt talk to many people, she didnt have a friend at all too many things getting into her socail life. It hurt to say that Avery was truly a loner in most ways, never hanging out with anyone and never going out to any kinds of parties, such a sad life Avery had. Still walking, tears rolled down her face as she wished so badly to have a mom or dad. She decided to go to the mall, just to window shop and maybe try to see if there were any dresses on sale. "I should get a red one or maybe a black one or even indigo" she said, trying to distract herself with more pleasant thoughts. It wasnt easy but she managed to live and if she got lucky maybe find a couple people to make friends with. It wasnt everyday that Avery got to go to the mall, more like twice a month and that was about it for her.
"Josh" that name came to mind again. Avery smiled, liking how the name rolled off her tongue and out into the open. She wanted to ask him to homecoming, but probably with zero luck he already had a date or was going to ask someone. "Oh well" she thought, another small sigh escaped. For some reason she always thought that Josh looked familiar to her, or she was just plain out crazy and all that missing family stuff was really getting to her head.
“I’m up!!” Kung Woo exclaimed, his eyes shooting open as soon as the clattering of a fallen broomstick created noise in the greenhouse. He had started to sit up, but as soon as he saw that it was only Xenevia, he sighed in relief and reclined once again. Shutting his eyes again and containing his smile as Xenevia kicked his foot in attempt to get him up again, Kung Woo listened to her joking complaint about him at least to keep up the appearance of the store and that the boss didn’t pay him to sleep, Kung Woo had to comment on the last bit. “Actually, she would pay me to sleep in her place if I asked her.” Although Kung Woo wasn’t all perverted and all in general, he did get sort of a kick out of it when girls overreacted to a slightly perverted thing he said. It was so funny that they’d take him so seriously, sometimes – he just had to do it. And the best part was was that different girls had different reactions, and all of the reactions were generally hilarious. However, Xenevia, Kung Woo knew, didn’t really like giving reactions to guys that expected them, so he wasn’t really expecting much as he said the discreetly inappropriate correction.
x Wrinkling his nose and swatting Xenevia’s hand away playfully as she poked his nose, Kung Woo finally decided to sit up and open his eyes, giving a fake, irritated sigh as he did so, but not being able to keep the smile from his face. Xenevia was one of those nicer girls Kung Woo knew who didn’t actually hit on him every time they made eye contact. “I actually wouldn’t know how class was,” he honestly replied, smirking triumphantly as he crossed his legs to slouch Indian-style. “’Cause I accidentally slept through it again.” Sleeping through class wasn’t something abnormal for Kung Woo, and most of the people who knew him knew that. Kung Woo thought it was way too much work to just go ahead and skip class altogether, so he stayed in school and generally slept through it. His grades miraculously don’t ever drop, as he’s considered a sort of a child prodigy with his oversized brain, and all. Kung Woo just doesn’t choose to use it all of the time.
Nodding as Xenevia said that it was too bad they didn’t have classes together, Kung Woo honestly agreed. Maybe if they were in the same classes, she’d protect him from all of the crazy fangirls who acted like dogs trying to dominate over humans – via humping.
Then, the topic of Homecoming came up again, and Xenevia brought up the whole thing on him “liking” Ashelin. Groaning in an over-exaggerated kind of way, Kung Woo held his head like a person with a major migraine and reclined again, shielding his eyes from the bright lighting of the greenhouse. Relaxing his body, Kung Woo muttered, “I dunno…” being honestly truthful. He didn’t know if he liked Ashelin, okay?? That’s what he wanted to shout over a bullhorn to the world…or maybe just his friends and the rest of the grade. However, the action was impossible because of:
a) Ashelin’s possible embarrassment. Kung Woo didn’t like being embarrassed, and certainly didn’t like embarrassing others any more.
and
b) The teachers’ responses. Though Kung Woo slept through class, that wasn’t enough of a “disturbance” to the rest of the students to earn a call home. And Kung Woo certainly didn’t like to hear his mother’s voice louder than its usual whisper-like volume.
xThe Asian boy suddenly sat up with an idea. “You know what?” he exclaimed, his spirits suddenly high as he straightened up with an amazing amount of energy. Dusting himself off absentmindedly, Kung Woo continued. “Maybe I will ask her to go to Homecoming with me.” Then that’ll get people off of my back. Kung Woo was just that dense.
Jogging out of the greenhouse and to the front door, dodging various trophie moms with pots of exotic plants as he did so, Kung Woo called out over his shoulder for Xenevia to tell the manager he’d gone home sick before starting at a sprint towards a random direction, starting on his search for Ashelin. The sooner he got it over with and asked her to Homecoming, in Kung Woo’s point of view, the sooner people would stop assuming that he had a crush on Ashelin.
As he ran, Kung Woo managed to pull out his cell phone from his pocket and text all of his friends that had started the idea of him liking Ashelin in the first place. Asking Ashelin to Homecoming. The responses were along the lines of Dude, really??? and There’s our Kung Wooie! Make your move, man! All Kung Woo did was grin to the replies and shove his phone back into his pocket.
Minutes later, he spotted Ashelin sitting down on the grass across from another girl – a short-haired one Kung Woo actually remembered the name of: Fawn…something. At least, he thought he did.
Approaching them at a mad sprint, he stopped a foot short of the two sitting girls – eating crackers, no less – before bending over to pant and rest his hands on his kneecaps to catch his breath. Finally caught up with breathing, Kung Woo flopped down on the grass and lay on his back, managing to pant out, “Will you, Ashelin, go to Homecoming with me, Kung Woo?” Suddenly, he realized how much of a buttface he must’ve looked like at the minute to Fawn, suddenly butting in on their quiet time. Sitting up, he turned toward the other girl he’d not addressed yet and beamed in a friendly way. “Oh, yeah. I’d like it, too, if you went with me, also.” In Kung Woo’s mind, asking two girls to the same event on the same date when they were both present wasn’t such a bad thing. “Actually, I’d like it if both of you went with me.” Glancing at the Animal Crackers, he pointed to them and grinned childishly. “Can I have one?”
Her eyes went as large as saucers when the boy suddenly ran up and collapsed beside them, sitting there staring at him with half a giraffe still hanging out of her mouth. Of course she recognized him from school, and her heart did a funny little skip in her chest when his attention suddenly turned her way. "Mfhmng?" She mumbled around her cookie and squeaked and jerked it out of her mouth before practically flinging the rest of the box at him.
"Yes! You can have the rest, I had a bunch already at lunch." Her face turned a curious shade of red and she grabbed her bag, stumbling over herself as she scrambled toward the street, calling back over her shoulder. "I have to go...it's late. You probably want to be alone anyway! It was nice meeting you!" She tripped over her own foot and barely kept from falling on her face, squeaking again and letting out a nervous laugh before bolting away from the other two, clutching her bag to her chest and completely forgetting the shoes she'd kicked off earlier.
              She thought for a bit. "Maybe.." she smirked. "the volleyball? What?!" She never heard of it. When she saw him deminstrate she had to admit he look stupid. She slapped him and laughed. "Yeah, it looks really retarded." She imanged someone else doing the same thing, but her thought failed. She laughed.
              "Well, i don't think i'll faint again but.." She had to walk home, and she didn't like to be alone by herself. "Only if you want too.." She grinned. Sophie was pretty sure that she could manage the 30 minute walk, but she liked wes. He was pretty cute and funny. "But, i have to warn you that it's 30 minutes." She smiled. Flexing her arms same like wes did she pointed to the road. "It's uhm. that way." She laughed.
Alexander chuckled slightly as he leaned against his cart slightly listening to her speak. "That hardly sounds like any fun working here." He had worked a few times but getting into trouble with people well it was a major turn off to a lot of people looking for employees. "I rather do something more interesting like dropping items off a the homeless shelter. Only reason I have this stuff." He motioned towards the bags in his cart. True, it would have been cheaper just to go o a use place but he saw it that they deserved semi nicer stuff even if it was Wal-Mart brand.
"Kassiy lovely meeting you. I saw you today at school you know that?" He grinned a bit as his head turned slightly to see the line. Was this the only person checking people out? He frowned slightly and let out a sigh. So much for him having a little fun. "Pity your working so late I'd ask you to grab something to eat with me." His hand moved into his pocket and pulled out a pen and paper scribbling something down on it he handed it towards her. "Text or call me when your free next time if your up something." A grin moved against lips as he took the receipt from her and moved out of the way for he people behind him to check out.
