Avery blushed, not thinking that the gift would be for his dad or anyone else. "Well then that is quite different, maybe your dad would like some tools or a bottle of wine" she answered, smiling a little. She was still happy from figuring out the seat belt thing, knowing that Josh probably thought she was a total fool at that point. She wondered if she should be wearing one or just take it off and not wear one like Josh was now doing. "How do i take it off?" she wondered, looking down at the small object. She noticed a section of it was red and she lightly pressed down on it, the belt came off. "oh!" she said, jumping a little in her seat. Taking the metal part and putting it back in she stayed silent for a while, figuring out how she was going to ask that one question.

"So Josh, do you know when homecoming is?" she asked, trying to sound like a complete idiot for the moment. She looked straight ahead, looking out the window occasinally. Her fingers were playing with some of her that came loose from under her old-fashioned hat and well she just took the whole thing off. Her hair came down and it was a mess. Doing the best she could to comb it with her fingers, Avery just waited for a reply. She looked ahead and saw that they were almost at the mall and she was excited to see what kind of dresses they had there. She had overheard a group of girls talking about this one store that selled only formal dresses. "I need to look there first" she thought.

Josh nodded. Wine sounded like a good idea. Damn. Only one small detail, he was still underage. No way were they going to give him a alcoholic beverages even if he had the cash. Maybe a gift certificate would do. He glanced at her and smiled. Something about the way she was acting reminded him of a child. Like she was just learning how these things worked.

The question took him by surprise. For some reason, which felt a lot like nervousness, he pressed his foot harder on the pedal and reached the mall's parking lot. Hadn't she seen the thousands of posters the stupid dance committee had put up to advertise it? Or maybe she just didn't pay attention to her surrounding. "Yeah. It's this Saturday," he said coolly as he turned the wheel and parked the car. Josh found himself glancing at Avery again. Something in his head told him that if he continued to stare he'd blush and embarrass himself. "Come on. Lets go window shopping," he said and stepped out of the car. Not bothering to lock it he waited for Avery before walking to the entrance.

Avery pressed the red button and the seat belt came right off. It took her a few seconds to figure out the door handle, but she managed to get it open and gently shut the car door, and headed to Josh. "oh yea, Saturday" she said softly, looking around the parking lot, seeing many other cars and some that even looked like Josh's own car. Avery wasnt sure if she should ask Josh wether he had a date or not, it would be best to bring the subject up later. She couldnt help but stare at Josh, after a couple of minutes, her mind finally told her to stop staring and she almost bumbed into the door. "Okay" she thought, feeling like a clutz around this boy. Opening the door, she took her head off and bowed. "After you" she said, giggling a little.

Avery could remember when she did this at the orphange for adults that came and adopted children that were either theirs or just children they wanted. She wasnt one of them thought, no one ever came to get her, no one even knew who she was and nither did she. Avery could see a few dresses already but none to her liking, and yet she wanted so bad to try them on anyways. Keeping her attention on the people coming in and out of the door, she wondered when she was going to let go of the door.

Roze was flat out speechless. She had tried to assure him the comment was alright, but he just kept on talking. It took effort to try and keep up with him, she nodded or shook her head when she thought it sounded appropriate. But she couldn't stop her jaw from dropping slightly.

When he left she just stared after him. Her hand had been raised to wave good bye, but it just kind of hung in the air, not doing anything. She brought it to her side and sat on the grass."Huh. Well this was something," she said to herself. This meeting would most definitely be something to never forget. After a while Roze smiled and started laughing. He had been funny in the end, strange...but funny. She lay across the grass and stared up at the clouds with an idiotic grin on her face. "Tree girl strikes again," she snickered. She really should stop talking to herself.

Josh frowned and hesitated for a while. "Uh...well thank you." He had been brought up to be a gentleman, but it seemed like Avery had beat him to it. He took her free hand and pulled her past the door with him. "Any place that draws your attention?" he asked, letting go of her hand. All the while he had been thinking of the gift, the wine could wait a couple years. Avery could help him pick out some sensible jewelry for his mom and he could get his dad a model car of the Thunder Bird he'd had as a teenager.

As of ten years ago on his birthday his relatives had started giving him money instead of meaningless toys that would go out of style. But Josh didn't use it since his parents tended to spoil him. So the money had stayed hidden away in a lunchbox behind his dresser only getting fuller and fuller each year. Now it was time to give his parents a little something back for all those toys from years ago and his most recent collection of comic books.

Avery blushed when Josh took a hold of her hand, only wishing that he hadnt let go. The store with the dresses came to mind, when she thought about Josh's question, but that would lead to the topic of homecoming. "Well Josh, i was wondering if i could go look for a dress, i just dont remember what the store was called" she answered. She knew she didnt have any money, but she was sure she could save up enough for this Saturday, it couldnt possibly be that expensive. Avery was lost in thought yet again, when she realized they were here for Josh's parenst, not silly dresses.

"We should go look for gifts for your parents first" she answered, knowing this was the polite thing to do. She could tell that people were looking at her odd way of dressing but she didnt care...yet. Seeing a nearby mirror, she took a small glance and smiled a little, knowing she didnt look bad at all, her hair was just slightly out of place and well her clothing wasnt exactly brand new, but it was good enough. One thing though, she wasnt sure where to start, the last time she came to the mall was just to buy a few flowers and even that shop wasnt inside the wall, just next to it.

Dress store? He remembered his mom preferring one in here somewhere for evenings out and special business events. The name eluded him, but he knew which one it was now. Some fancy french name no doubt but even if he remembered it he wasn't going to try pronouncing it. "Nah my parents can wait. They've been waiting for years already a few hours or days won't matter to them. But I know the place you're thinking of it's just a couple stores down," he said, walking towards it.

Something nagged him. She was going dress shopping and she had asked when homecoming was. 'You're losing it Joshy. Nothing weird about that at all,' he thought. He stopped in front of the store and stared inside. This was dangerous territory he was entering. Girl's territory. He was way over cooties and stuff but never felt comfortable in stores filled with dresses. It was his turn to hold the door open for her. Walking in after Avery, he glanced around warily.

Avery smiled as Josh opened the door for her, and she said her thank yous. Looking around she thought for a moment that maybe Josh wasnt all too well with being in a dress shop, all it had was for girls, she didnt even see any suits or hats for guys. "well that sure is something" she thought, taking a look at a blu-ish purple dress. Looking at the price tag, she kept calm, but her insides were screaming "Too much money!" It was like a bunch of alarms had been set off, all because the price of one dress. Avery did like it though, out of all the dresses this one looked the best. "would you like to try it on?" a lady asked, looking at Avery as if she were a bum. Looking at Josh who still was standing Avery said "Yes i would like to" Just because she couldnt afford it, didnt mean she couldnt try it on, that was the free part.

Getting into the dressing room, she stripped off her clothing and put on the dress gently and somewhat slowly, not wanting to ruin any part of it. Looking in the mirror, she smiled feeling like a princess at that point. "Maybe i can save up enough money for this" she muttered, opening the dressing room door. Stepping out, she faced Josh and asked "What do you think Josh?" The lights in the room made the dress sparkle a little and even the lady was tooken back by the appearance of Avery.

Jake took a deep breath of relief when Saybrae began to move and seemed to be unharmed. He'd begun to worry that she might have fallen on her head and broken her neck. That would be a wonderful story to tell the paramedics. Yeah, so, she fell, and I didn't catch her, so she, you know, broke her neck. He shook his head with a silent groan as the imagined scene played out in his mind's eye.

He then looked at her closely, beginning to wonder if she was invincible or something. She definitely wasn't hurt, and didn't seem to be dazed. In fact, the expression on her face was amusement, not pain or confusion.

Sitting down on the grass facing her as scratched his head absentmindedly Jake murmured in reply, "You sure are a tough girl." Most girls he'd known would have at least cried, if not from pain but from fright. Maybe she's accident prone and used to this. He thought, Although, she does play an awful lot of sports. She probably learned to tolerate pain from that.

When she mentioned missing her shoe, he handed it to her quickly mumbling his apology. "Oh, sorry about that..." He bit his lip. "I just couldn't get a good grip and so it popped off." He laughed nervously, fiddling with a wayward lock of his hair.

She blinks as Kung Woo talks, a little smile curling her lips and a giggle escaping when he mentions the Animal Cracker Fund, large, brown eyes twinkling in amusement. His chatter manages to make her forget to be shy and she relaxes as he talks, nodding and smiling brightly along with him. Even reaching to take her shoes and drop them to the floor so she could step back into them. Then he had to go and get on one knee, which sends the blood rushing once more into her face, eyes widening to alarming proportions.

"Ah...Er...Uhm...I-I-I..." She looks over at Ashelin when the girl encourages her, hands rising to press to her cheeks and her back thumping softly against the door as she steps back from the two of them, gaze returning to Kung Woo. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest like a jackhammer, and for a moment she was almost convinced that they must hear it, too. "Y-Yes. I mean, I'll have to ask my father and get a dress...But, uhm, I think...that I can go with...you. Now, please get up? Before I pass out." Her hands drop to clutch together in front of her stomach, breath coming fast and shallow.

"Thank you for inviting me, K-Kung Woo. Oh! And, you too, Ashelin. Thank you, I mean. You are both so very nice. I just hope that you won't regret asking me, because I can't really dance and I'm so clumsy." Her eyes clench shut and she drops her head back against the door with a little groan. "Sorry, I shouldn't have said that. I'm going to shut up now. Would you like to come in? There's always cake and drinks. Daddy won't mind." She peeks at them, struggling with the urge to flee back into the house.

Jamie woke to the sound of an alarm clock and the first thing she did was throw a pillow at it. She knew she missed all of school but it didnt matter, one day wasnt going to kill her, she had an exception. Wendy had stayed up all last night crying, hearing that her father died in a car accident. Getting up, she headed to the shower and let the warm water run down her skin, she felt somewhat relaxed. After a good twenty minutes, Jamie was dressed and out the door her house. Yes, house, a sixteen year old girl lived in a house alone while her mother sent large amounts of money to her only daughter, how sad. "Well i might as well see what events are coming up" she mumbled, heading to her mailbow. Opening the lid, she had a letter from school, opening it she gasped. "homecoming" she shrieked. Jamie had totally forgotten about that and she didnt even have a date, what in the world was she going to do.

Running back into her house, she grabbed her car keys and credit card. "Okay first dress then date" she thought, getting into the car. Making sure everything was in place: mirror, seat belt, keys. Jamie sped out of her driveway and headed in the direction of the giant shopping mall. "sheese, i slept through the entire day" she said, getting angry at herself. It wasnt that Jamie hated school, it just wasnt as fun as the school in london, then of course she didnt want to go back to London. "Where are my brothers?" she wondered. Ever since Jamie left, she never heard from her brothers, and thats when the story telling ended, she couldnt tell anyone her stories, except the plants on her garden and that wasnt very exciting.

Saybrae gave out a laugh as Jake still seemed to stare in disbelief. She knew most girls were as fragile as glass, but give her some credit! Still grinning, she took the show from Jake, slamming it down on her own foot, not bothering to tie the torn and weathered laces. After shifting her foot around to make sure it fit, she looked back at Aiden, with a tilted expression.

She found it cute how he was nervously pulling on his hair, almost like a poor little boy who was caught doing a bad thing. She stretched out her legs, leaning against the stone wall. This spot was rather comfortable, and Saybrae made a note to hang out here, next time she wanted some down time. It was hidden from the main enterance, being behind the stone wall the steps were built by. Perfect spot to sleep or sneak around she was sure.

her eyes rolled as Jake mumbled his apology, and explanation for missing her. "It's quite alright really. Don't kill yourself over it." She rolled up her jacket sleeves, exposing her bare arms underneath. "No broken bones, not even a scrath." Still extending her arms, she curled one into a fist and bonked it lightly on Jake's head. "So stop freaking out ok? Let's worry about more important things...like what we should do now!"

Jake watched as she put on her shoe, not even tying the laces. That seemed to rule out his theory of her being accident prone. Someone accident prone would make sure that their laces were double-knotted before taking half a step. He noticed she was now looking at him, her head tilted to the side in a curious manner. "What..?" He asked uncertainly, wondering if he made a funny face or his hair was sticking out at a weird angle. He quickly reached his hand up and flattened down an strands that may have been out of order.

He criss-crossed his legs when he saw her settle down against the wall. Might as well get comfortable if she is... He reasoned to himself in thought. It was a pleasant little spot, he had to admit. It was shaded, so he didn't have to worry about melting under the unforgiving sun, and it would be ideal if you were trying to avoid someone, or skipping a class.

Smiling nervously, he nodded when she brushed off the incident like it was an everyday occurrence. He peered closely at her arms, finding, in fact, that she was completely unscathed. "That's a relief." He said with a small nod. "Do you get hurt from sports or are you just accident prone?" He finally asked though he figured the reason was the former of the two.

"What to do now?" He said curiously. "I thought you were going to show me all the amusing things to do. That is, until you decided to try and fly." He said, trying to lighten his mood with a small joke.

Josh disapproved of the look the sale's lady was giving Avery. Nobody had could have a good enough reason to look at a complete stranger like that. While Avery went to the dressing room Josh poked a pink dress that he could have sworn had moved. Seconds later it moved again and he felt a blast of air. Feeling idiotic he looked up to see an air duct.

Avery's voice drew his eyes away from the duct to her. Josh did his best to keep his jaw from dropping and succeeded. What he couldn't stop was his eyes from going wide. She looked...amazing. So much better than the baggy clothes she was wearing! But he wasn't going to tell her that. His lips twitched upwards and then became a full cheesy smile. "Wow. You look great. Certainly your date is going to like it," he said. Homecoming. It seemed to be going through every body's mind and maybe it should be going through his too.

He thought back to the day at the restaurant with Sophia. Josh began to think she'd already have a date. Great time to start thinking about things like this. The even was a few days away and he was barely thinking of a date. Idiot you took too long!

Brandyn grinned at her, standing up and brushing off his jeans. "I heard it in class once. Good memory," he said, beaming. He yawned and stretched. "Honestly, I'm not so sure what I'm doing here either. I was talking to Kung Woo, and then he left and I dozed off. Oops." Some part of Brandyn felt embarrassed about it, but that part was very very small. He looked around, and then at his watch. "Already? Wow. That was a good nap," he said, laughing at himself for having fallen asleep on the steps.

He looked back to Danny. "Well, I should probably be getting away from here. Where are you headed? Home? I can walk you home if you'd like," he said. He was feeling quite energetic after his little nap, and he didn't want Danny to feel lonely as she headed wherever it was she was going. His grinned widened at her, and he hopped off the steps. "Where to?" he asked.
