Kari shrugged. "I was just looking for something to do, and I guess this seemed like a good place to start," she said. She looked around. The grass was green, though it was beginning to dry and turn brown in the cool, October whether. The sky over head was a brilliant blue, with a few white, wispy clouds high up. The sun beat down, and a slight breeze was blowing. The trees had for the most part turned an array of orange and red and yellow. Kari loved this time of year. October was such a great month. Nice, cool whether, and of course, Halloween. One of Kari's favorite holidays.
She looked back at Kyle, grinning. "It's so nice out here! I mean, look at the trees!" she said, excited, then she blushed a little, feeling slightly shy about her sudden outburst of excitement. "Sorry. I guess you could say I don't get out very much," she admitted, which on account of her uncle was very true. She was always glad to get out and see the world, and often found it quite fascinating. "What about you? What brings you here on this fine Wednesday afternoon?"

The phone began to ring, and Mark sighed. Looking at the answering machine, he saw that it was none other than Jenny, his favorite, auburn haired police woman. He picked up the phone, knowing that if he didn't, she was going to come looking for him. The way she kept an eye on him, you would have thought he was on parole. "Yes?" he said, rolling his eyes.
"Oh good, you're home. That's all," she said, and hung up. It was just as Mark figured. She hadn't believed him. He made a mental note to have the phone company disconnect the apartment's line. Maybe that'd stop the calls for a while and he'd finally get some peace and quiet. He was ready to be out of the apartment and back into the world where it was a lot harder for Jenny to reach him. He'd certainly seen enough of her and the inside of her car for the day.
He headed back outside, grabbing his stuff off the counter and locking the door behind him. There were some shady people in the building, like the old geezer next door. Mark was pretty sure that man knew all the dirt on everyone in the building. It was a good thing Mark was rarely in. The bright sun made Mark squint a moment as he stepped out the front door of the complex. As he walked down the path to the main sidewalk, he saw a girl lying on the grass. He walked over to her, and recognized her immediately. "Krysta?" he asked, wondering what the girl was doing.

Alex Rose
Beauty
Alex was in mid thought trying to figure out if she should just get up and start walking home. It would take her way too long and she wouldn’t make it in time for supper. She thought about how angry her parents would be if they found out that her brother just left her there. Then again they might not even notice that Alex wasn’t at supper. Her family was so hectic with their own lives that sometimes they didn’t notice if someone was missing. And truth be told, Alex would often skip dinner with her family to read some book or another. Great! Now she would have to walk she was sure. She would kill her brother later on.
A voice calling out her name broke her from her thoughts. Alex looked over where the voice came from and saw some guy on a moped. He looked slightly familiar but couldn’t place where she knew him. Of course that happened to her all the time. She spent so much time in her books that she didn’t always know everyone that she came across. She stood up from her spot underneath the tree and went over to the boy since he obviously knew who she was. After all, he did say her name.
When she got close to the guy she still couldn’t place his name. She felt like an idiot. ”Uh…hi. Please don’t think me totally rude but what’s your name?” Alex felt her cheeks go slightly red as the embarrassment she was feeling washed over her. She didn’t want this guy to think she was a snob or anything. Really she was just a geek who read too much.

And for once it might be grand
To have someone understand

♡ K rysta sat up at her name, her eyes open in a flash as she tilted her head upward with a wide smile to see who it was who interrupted her imagination. It turned out to be the dark-haired, “dangerous”-looking boy in some of her classes, Mark. He was usually the guy making smart comebacks to the teachers’ screeching. At least, that was how Krysta looked at him as. Dark-haired and dangerous and funny = Mark. “Mark-im-poop!” she chirped, springing up onto her feet to dust herself off. ‘im-poop’ was just one of the many nickname-type teases she added on to peoples’ names to turn them into something funny-sounding. Sometimes it sounded better, sometimes not so great. Of course, one of the people she’d never tested her nicknames on was Brandyn. Sometimes Krysta secretly inwardly imagined herself saying ‘Brandyn-im-poop’, but she always stopped herself, for some reason. Possibly because it just didn’t roll off of her tongue nicely? Or maybe she was just plain hesitant because she liked Brandyn, and although she knew he, like herself, liked unique people, she was kind of afraid of being looked at as too weird for her own good.
☆ D one with cleaning herself off, Krysta started rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet, intertwining her fingers behind her back as she continued to grin up at the dark-haired boy. Mark, in Krysta’s eyes, was a quirky kind of person. In a good way, of course. She’d caught him, a few times, staring at her in various classes and in the hallways, but had thought nothing of it. Dense like that, Krysta mainly only kept her focus on the one she liked – Brandyn and purely Brandyn. Of course, the totally cute Asian hot-topic of the grade, Kung Woo, was also to fall for…but Brandyn was more into adventures, like Krysta. Kung Woo was sort of a music freak, in Krysta’s opinion, but she guessed that everyone had to be passionate about something. However, the Asian boy’s moves and beat-boxing, Krysta had to admit, was hands-down incredible.

♡ F ocusing back to Mark, she suddenly caught sight of a mosquito trying to get a snack out of the dark-haired boy’s neck. Narrowing her eyes at the skin, Krysta suddenly stepped forward, staring into Mark’s eyes blankly for a second before slapping his neck with a “Hiiiiyaaaa!!!” Immediately after she slapped him, Krysta retrieved her hand and looked down at it with a satisfied grin. The guts of a rather large, previously blood-filled mosquito was on her bottom palm. Mission accomplished… Wiping her hand on her leg, she smiled at Mark innocently. “So what’s up in your life on this lovely day?” not quite realizing what she’d just done.

Kyle’s smile widened a bit as he laughed slightly at her reaction to the environment around them. He did appreciate the small things in life too but some things he had just seen too much of it that they sort of lost their magic for him. ”Don’t apologize.” He assured her. ”Nothing wrong with being excited, right?” Kyle tried to think of the last time he was excited about something small. It actually had been awhile ago. He was in his favorite spot of the town which happened to be a wooded area by a river. It was peaceful there and he could just relax. It was the one place where he wasn’t restless.
Returning to the actual world, Kyle looked at Kari and shrugged at her question. ”To put it simply, boredom. I thought the park would be an interesting place to meet people and have fun but so far no one interesting has come along. Except you, of course.” Kyle got up from his sitting position and stretched a bit. He was a little sore from just sitting down the entire time. He wondered what time it was but he didn’t have his phone with him. He made a mental note to not forget his phone so much.

- She wrinkled her nose at his after school activity of choice. "Seriosuly, you can stand to lay around hours on end, killing your eyes on television?!" She hopped back on the wall, legs swinging over the wall. "I mean, i'd understand if you were watching a game or something, but i have a feeling you're not talking about watching the NBA finals or something." She sighed, shaking her head. "In my book, thats practically blasphemy to admit to being idle."
Her eyes flicked down to her cell, which she pulled out of her pocket. Well, she had just wasted a few minutes in that conversation. Looking up, she smiled at Jake. "Well then, i guess no one ever showed you all the amsing things one could do here?" Not that she was offering her services. She was just putting that out there...for some reason or another. Noah ● Dean ● Wallace
Noah exited the main office of the school. Today he was “sick” for the most part of the day and he needed to pick up his schedule, something he would have gotten if he was in school. Today was supposed to be his first day of school but he didn’t really feel like going to school in the middle of the week so he skipped today. But he knew his mother would be upset if he didn’t have his school stuff with him when she got home from work so he was “cured” of his illness just as school was getting out. Noah had to laugh in his head at how easily it was to convince these people that he was sick and not actually skipping. Of course, he had somewhat made an art of it back at his old school. His old school. Noah wondered what his buddies where up to. He couldn’t believe he was stuck in this small town. The things he did for his mother. Noah shook his head slightly. He walked outside the school and was on his way to his car. He noticed some girls were looking at him and he flashed them a smile sending a few of them into giggles. Noah thought it was funny how easy he could get girls to do that. One time one of his buddies made a bet of how many times Noah could do it in a day. The results were laughable just because of how girls could be.
As Noah was going to turn the corner to get to his car he was stopped by a crowd of some people gathering around a girl up on some box protesting something. Noah thought he might as well figure out what exactly she was protesting. Getting closer he found out that this girl was actually protesting Homecoming. Was she serious? Who would protest Homecoming? Noah tapped on the person next to him. ”When is Homecoming?” If there was a dance coming up he would sure want to be there. ”It’s this Saturday” The kid replied. Noah nodded and turned his attention back on the girl. Now he couldn’t have some girl protesting a dance he now wanted to go to. Forget the fact that he just found out there was a dance not two minutes ago. ”What do you have against dancing? Noah asked the girl. He had maneuvered his way up to the front so he was looking right at her.
This is my idea of fun!

- Ashelin grinned as the girl offered her the crackers. She hadn't eaten since lunch, and was realizing that she was getting a bit hungry. "Thank you, Fawn," she said politely, taking a handful of crackers and eating them. Fawn reminded her of Sophia, at least in her generosity. She found Fawn to be far more timid than the other girl she'd met earlier was, though. It was such a nice day out, and for once, she had completely forgotten about life back home.
Suddenly, she saw someone toward them, stopping not far from them. It was Kung Woo, the rather energetic Asian music lover Ashelin knew from school. He flopped down on the grass, panting, and Ashelin gave him a rather curious look. She was about to ask him what he was doing there when he managed to get a few words out, answering her question before she'd asked it. For a second, she was left speechless, taken completely by shock at his rather abrupt and randomly timed question. Then he continued on, and she almost laughed at his rather childish outburst when he asked Fawn to come along too.
Ashelin felt bad as the rather timid girl got up and said she had to get going. Ashelin could tell she was feeling more flustered than she could handle. There was a time when Ashelin was like that, back in her childhood days, always so shy and easily embarrassed when put on the spot. "Now look, you've scared her off," she said in a joking tone.
It was at about that time that the realization of what he'd asked her had sunk in. Homecoming? She hadn't planned on having a date. She and Sophia were going to go as friends, but she supposed Sophia would understand, and probably be happy for her. She didn't know though. No one did, except for one person. No one knew about the diamond and gold ring Ashelin kept shoved deep in her pocket whenever she left her house. No one knew about the fiancee that was currently over seas, only to arrive in town on Monday. She hadn't told anyone, save the one person she'd felt she could trust, an that person wasn't here.
Though her thought process took only seconds, it felt a lot longer on the inside of her mind. Her thoughts were a mad scramble to process his question. She just didn't know what to say. She wanted to say yes. After all, Kung Woo was a fun, cute guy. She enjoyed his company. On the other hand, she carried an engagement ring in her pocket. 'If this were one of those cartoon shows, I think I'd be the one with the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other,' she mused. What should she say? YES! half her mind screamed. Say yes, say YES! At the same time, the other half was screaming: Are you crazy? Do you know what will happen if your parents find out? If Conner finds out?'
Sure, that second half was right, but at the same time, Conner was coming Monday. Homecoming was Saturday. That was plenty of time to hide any evidence that she had ever gone. If he found out, she figured Sophia would lie for her. Maybe she'd have Sophia come over, and her parents could see her leave the house with the other girl, just to throw suspicion off of her for the night. 'Who am I kidding, there's no way,' she said to herself in her mind. That second half was right. There were too many 'what ifs?' and not enough guarantees that someone wasn't going to find out. When that happened, her life was pretty much over. She was sure she'd never be allowed out again, and the rest of her senior year would be spent under house arrest. That was not what she wanted.
She turned to face Kung Woo, feeling bad for what she was about to say, but knowing it was for his own good. Conner didn't like people who went after "his girl", even though Ashelin would never consider herself as being such. She let her mind take over, distancing herself so that she didn't feel as bad when she hurt his feelings for saying no. "Sure," she said. Then it hit. 'Dammit! That's the last time I let my mind take over!' she thought to herself. Well, it was too late now. She was stuck. She had a lot of work to do to make sure her dear parents knew nothing of this. What had she gotten herself into?
On the bright side, as long as no one found out, Saturday night seemed to be quite the promising evening. She actually thought she'd enjoy herself. She looked over at Fawn's shoes. "I guess we should return those, huh?" she said. Oh boy. This was going to be interesting.

"You're tellin' me..." She murmured when he said her job didn't sound like any fun. There were plenty of other jobs that she would have preferred, but Wal-Mart was pretty much the best she could get during the week. Her other job was a great deal more interesting, but it was just on the weekends. At least she got good tips there, otherwise Jake and herself would be on the streets.
Homeless shelter. That was a taboo to talk about between Kassidy and Jake. It had always been a haunting Plan B if supporting themselves didn't work out. "It's interesting if you've got ample funds, you mean." She said in a nearly inaudible undertone, pursing her lips.
She nodded when he mentioned seeing her at school that very day. "Yes, I passed you and your friends on my way out, actually." She replied. "I was on my way to my car in the parking lot at the time." Kassidy let out a small groan when she followed his gaze, seeing the line of people that had begun to grow.
A wry smirk formed on her lips when he mentioned that he would have taken her out had she not been working, but there wasn't anything that she could do about it. Kass gingerly took the paper which, she assumed, had his number on it, before putting it into the pocket of her pants. "I'll make sure to do that." She merely said as he walked off.
She shook her head quickly, clearing her head of thoughts of Alexander. She was at work, so she couldn't be off in another world. Her attentions turned to the next person in line, the Asian male she'd also seen at school. "Did you find everything you needed?" She asked in a practiced voice, following protocol.

Jake gave a genuine laugh when she berated his after school hobby, wrinkling her nose in a fashion that reminded him of a rabbit. A very cute rabbit, mind you. He leaned against the wall beside her where she sat, grinning slightly. "No... Most of the time I don't watch games. Occasionally soccer when Spain or Italy is doing well in the World Cup, but other than that, I watch cooking shows, actually." Surprisingly, Jake had a joy of cooking, but it wasn't a well-known fact.
He shook his head when she spoke again. "No, can't say anyone's shown me anything amusing to do with my time." He replied with a shrug. Probably wouldn't be able to afford anything worth my time, though. He thought to himself ruefully. "What is it that you do in your spare time?" He asked, wanting to get the conversation away from himself. "Do you play any sports or an instrument?"

No he really didn't expect her to know him he only saw her in the halls a few times and then class but he hardly did anything in it that wasn't NEEDED to do to keep his grades up. "It's not rude I fall asleep in the class we have together so I'm not one that answers questions often." He grinned a bit as he shifted the back helmet to his other hand and moved it out towards her. "I'm Yuan Callaghan sleepier by school day and then adventurer by after. " He grinned at that idea of his saying. It was all true, he slept have the time just to have enough energy for his other part. Unless he had friends around then he didn't sleep really.
"So what are you doing here so late after school? Most kids would be dying to get away from it." He finally pulled his hand away as he slipped on the kick stand and moved away from it. No, there was no reason being rude just sitting there on his bike looking like he was busy. His eyes couldn't help but glance down to her book and then it hit him. "I take it you like to read places where its quiet?" If so he had a perfect place for her, a place he first found when he came to the town two years ago after his father decided he needed a 'mother figure' in his life.

Alex Rose
Beauty
Alex nodded as he explained why she might not know him. Even though he offered perfectible good reasons she knew the real reason was her fault. She would read in between classes and before classes, sometimes she would even read when the teacher was teaching. She didn’t say any of this to him though. When he offered her his hand she shook it. It was something her father had taught her to do a long time ago. Anytime anyone offered to shake your hand, you shook it. ”Nice to meet you Yuan. I’m Alex but you already knew that.” She said referring to the fact that he had called out her name.
Alex looked down at her book when Yuan asked if she liked quiet places to read. ”Yeah I like quiet places but that’s not the reason I’m here. My older brother has my car and he was supposed to pick me up but he failed to do so. He is otherwise occupied with something else.” She rolled her eyes as she thought about why he was not there. She would have to talk to him about this. ”So now I’m stranded here and have to figure out a way home.”

"Of course not," she said, feeling a rather bit silly at her embarrassment a moment earlier. Kyle seemed like a reasonable guy, and she was glad for that. "I guess the park's not so popular this afternoon," she added in response to his last statement, adding a grin. She wondered what people did after school. She'd only recently been getting out of the house afterword. During her classes, she heard a lot of talk about movies and shopping and jobs, but she didn't really know so much about any of it. It'd been a long time since she'd just hung out with friends.
"What do most people do after school?" she asked suddenly. She was curious now, and Kyle looked like someone who would know. Thinking about it, she figured it was probably a strange question, especially the way she'd worded it. She hoped that her great uncle wouldn't catch on to the sleeping pill bit for a while, so she'd have time to explore what a normal teenager's life during high school was like. Just in case though, she was going to find out what she could as fast as possible.
