Erin crashed through the hospital doors for the second time in three days. She halted at the desk and, with a touch of deja vu, said frantically,
"Alexander Cross! I'm here to see Alexander Cross!" the secretary looked up and eyed her. Before she could say anything though, she saw a Dr. look up with a worried countenance. He walked up to her and touched her arm.
"Are you Erin Walker?" he asked gently.
"Yes! It's a joke, right? He isn't here, right?" she asked desperately. The doctor gave her a sad look.
"Ah... Richard, your friends manager, told me you'd probably come. He left to go make some.... Arrangements for Alex."
"Where's Al?" she asked firmly. The doctor sighed and began walking, placing an arm around her shoulders.
"Alex had a blood clot on his shoulder from the bullet wound.... Today that clot broke free and flowed to his brain causing an aneurism. It... It was a one in a million chance that something like that would happen. He didn't make it. I'm sorry." they had come to a stop outside an ICU room. The door had two little windows on it and inside, Erin could see a figure covered on top an operating table. Her heart pounding, she opened the doors and slowly made her way to it. She carefully peeled back the sheet and saw the face of her best friend. The force of it brought her to her knees and she began sobbing. She took Alex's cold hand and pressed her face to it.
"Alex Alex Alex. Alex Alex Alex." she whispered, rocking. "Alex Alex Alex." this couldn't be real. This kind of pain and horror couldn't really be over coming her world. "Alex Alex Alex..."
