☠ ☠ Iku sighed to himself as he closed his eyes slowly, thinking that he could probably try to get some sleep and be ready to start off his 'first' day of school tomorrow.
He had seen the concern on Sabrina's face when he'd told her that it hadn't been the first time that he'd had to deal with people having a bad day, his thoughts drifting back to his family.
Sometimes he just wished things could go back to the way they had been, after their dad left them behind, and the care of the four children was left to their mother, Aria Haragi had become a complete trainwreck, she became more temperamental, easily irritated, and just seemed so depressed and angry all the time... to think she'd been one of the cheeriest people in the world before dad had left...
Digging through the vast treasury of memories in his mindscape, Iku pulled up one that was his favorite, the time he'd been with Yoshika when she was one, and her first winter.
Iku sat down in front of the fireplace one December evening, it had been remarkably cold outside all day, a perfect night to sit down with in front of a friendly fire, with a steaming mug of hot coca in his hand, which he sipped blissfully as he stared into the flickering flame inside the brick fireplace.
Suddenly, Yoshika, only one year old, wearing a purple kimono that Chiyako had gotten her for her birthday that was much to big for her, came running over, her eyes wide and her ears perked up, seeming excited about something.
" Big brother! Big brother! There's something going on outside!! Come see! Come see!!" she yelped with delight, pointing towards the big window with a tiny, delicate finger.
" Alright alright~ Show me what it is then~" he said to her with a smile, placing his mug on the coffee table nearby as he stood up, taking her hand as he did.
Her tail wagging rapidly, as if she could hardly contain her excitement, Yoshika led him over towards the window, the bottom of her kimono trailing behind her, while Iku did his best not to trip over it.
Upon reaching the window, she pointed outside, " See? See? There's white falling from the sky!! It's beautiful~!!"
As he looked outside, he saw she was right, little, shimmering drops of white was raining down outside, powdery and light, as if thousands upon thousands of tiny white feathers were drifting gently down to earth.
He couldn't help but smile, and softly squeezed her little hand, " I see~ You know, that powdery white stuff is called snow~ It comes around every winter, and it's fun to play in if it stays on the ground~"
She looked at him, her eyes shining with childish curiosity and delight, before she looked out the window again, " Snow..." she whispered, her ears flicking every which way happily, seeming amazed that the powdery white stuff from the sky had a name.
Iku squeezed her hand again, and whispered, " C'mon, I'll show you something even better~ All you have to do is close your eyes, and wait till I say you can open them again~"
Her eyes wide, Yoshika nodded, and closed her eyes, balling up her hands as if she was prepared to see what it was, and Iku gently picked her up, gathering up the tresses of her kimono, and walked over to the front door, opening it softly, and stepping outside in the midst of the falling snow.
" Okay, Yoshi, you can open your eyes now~"" he whispered to her, and, as soon as her little eyes opened, she opened her mouth, letting out a gasp of delight as she was able to see, much more clearly and up close, the snowflakes falling all around them, the gentle blue-purple magelight in a lamp outside making them shine and glow with an almost unearthly, yet striking, aura.
Yoshika reached a hand out, catching a few snowflakes, gasping once again as she felt how cold they were to the touch, and how quickly they melted away into water.
She looked to Iku again, the auramatic glow from the magelight making her eyes gleam, and she threw her arms around him in a hug, resting her head on his shoulder as she spoke softly to him, " I love the snow, I love it very much, big brother~"
He smiled, holding her close to him, ignoring the frosty bite of the winter wind, and whispered back to her, " I do too, Yoshi, I do too~"
He smiled at the memories, back when she used to be so sweet and innocent, how she would allow him to hold her hands, how they used to get along so well, like siblings were meant to... what had gone so wrong to make all of that change?
A sudden scream made the dream flee from his mind, and Iku abruptly stood up, looking about wildly, wondering what had gone on.
Nate was still asleep, it seemed, he figured the scream must've come from Sabrina... taking a deep breath, he shifted back to his normal form, and stood up fully, smelling salt and tears, and looked over, seeing her sitting up in her bed, weeping, her eyes wide with terror.
Iku's ears flattened, as he cautiously walked over, clambering up onto the bed, and placed a hand on her shoulder, using a couple of fingers to wipe away some of the tears from her face, " Sabrina... what's wrong? Did you have a bad dream?" he asked softly, his voice heavy with worry and sadness, his ears flicking up slightly as he heard a knock on the door, but his focus was on trying to comfort Sabrina.
