Terra continued walking with the others towards the destination, walking behind them and keeping an eye on things. It was a little silly, but she felt responsible for the group, even with Hikaru as the one who was "saving" them. She knew he was probably more capable than she at this sort of thing, with his history as a soldier, but she didn't want an act of carelessness to end in a repeat of her father. Luckily for everyone. the trip was rather uneventful, and the party managed to reach the volcano.
Setting foot onto the base of the volcano did , well. . . something to Terra. She stopped, feeling a rush of life beneath her feet, muffled by her shoes. Almost in a trance, she took them off and discarded them, and set her bare feet down on the ground. She felt her heart grow warm, and she changed into her stone form without thinking, as if the volcano forced her skin to turn to stone, so it and Terra would have even more in common. She was almost in a trance now, and didn't notice Tiona's predicament with the ash. She stood still, her eyes unseeing and ears unhearing as she gave her full attention to the volcano. She could feel within it a stone, that felt familiar. She knew what it was. The stone was her heart. Or rather, it was the same kind of stone. She came to understand the volcano, and also came to understand herself.
The understanding about herself wasn't really deep or spiritual. It was much more important than something like that. She knew what she was. She was mountain, to put it very bluntly. Perhaps a volcano like this one. Her heart was the heart of a mountain, and her body was stone, magically mimicking a human form with near perfection. It was a staggering realization, and that realization came along with other realizations, that Terra wasn't sure she was ready to accept. Jun'ko had lied to her. The woman Terra had come so quickly to accept as a mother and form an attachment to had been lying. Terra had no parent other than the earth itself. And while she wasn't exactly sure how to feel about that, happy was not exactly at the top of the list of possible emotions. She kind of felt frustrated actually. And angry. And sad and confused and upset and betrayed. The ground beneath her began to heat up with emotions, and she was soon standing on a patch of rock that was glowing red, only a few degrees away from melting.
Unfortunately, that was the only thing Terra knew now for sure. The rest of her big realizations were more in the form of questions. Who was the man who Jun'ko claimed was her father? How did Terra come take on this form? And why weren't there more people like her? All of these questions probably tied in together some how, but Terra was too overwhelmed to do any sort of mental work like figuring her life story out using what clues she already knew, and the fact that she was a mountain. In fact, all she felt like doing was crying.
Of course, no tears came. Not in her stone form of course. They wouldn't have gotten the chance to fall anyways, with her stone eyes having turned to magma, holding their shape as they glowed with the heat they held. She wasn't entirely control of her powers, though it was at least confined to making magma in places that should have killed her.
And then, just as quickly as this connection had appeared, it was cut off. Well, that wasn't quite right. It was dimmed. The resonance between hearts, that feeling in Terra's soul that said that she was more similar to this landform than any life on the entire island, was kinda just toned down a bit. She felt the hum of life beneath her, but also saw and heard and smelled the things around her. As the magma she'd created beneath her and in her eyes cooled down again to stone, she slowly returned to reality. Though, the dazed quality about her gave way to an upset expression, that expressed that her little trance had not been peaceful and fun. She stayed in her stone form, knowing she'd cry if she let her body form tear ducts.

((Out Of Cake?!: Hikaru and Tiona aren't even close to the ideal audience for Terra's sudden connection with the volcano and realization of what she is, but that's just how the cookie crumbled))
