Because I really don't get it D:

Is it because Edward is the ideal boyfriend, emotionally abusive and is only with the girl because "she looks" or "smells good"? And it's cool to have two guys fight over you even though you choose the stone cold douche bag over the "emotional and hormonally dysfunctional best friend? Truthfully the whole story is bullshit. I mean, who did not see that one coming? stare Its people like Meyer who takes other peoples' ideas and turns them into a pile of crap in gift wrapping. It's so pretty on the outside, so glorious but when you open it up, there's a huge disappointment just waiting inside. You know what makes good writing? A good twist; things people DON'T expect. Like "holy waffles, she chose Jacob? I didn't see that one. Wow, this is so good!" not "Oh...she chose Edward. I figured that like, from the beginning..."

And don't get me started on Breaking Dawn. So Meyer probably figured out "oh poo, I need to make my story more unpredictable. I know! I'll make Jacob fall in love with Bella and Edward's baby!" I read part of Breaking Dawn. It is so fictionally inaccurate... I just feel like Meyer didn't take her sweet a** time in writing a story that is worth even reading all the way. *shakes head* I find it kind of funny, that as a Mormon woman, Meyer made Edward want Bella to have an abortion because the fetus poses a risk to her life. Wow, what a huge contradiction towards the religion. I can't even begin to fathom the rest of the story without wanting to punch Meyer in the face and knock her on her a**...

Prodigal Mage

Because it's marketed as wish-fulfillment to people who don't really care to read it critically or with any sort of desire to analyze (and though that sounds really condescending on my part, I don't mean it that way--there's nothing wrong with not analyzing every single book you read). They read it for pure entertainment. Also, and I think I might have brought this up in another thread before, but it's "safe" paranormal romance. Thus, people who may not have wanted to read paranormal romance because they're not comfortable with all the blatant sexuality and more obviously monstrous characters can now get into the fad with Twilight. There are other reasons as well, but they're as varied as the people who enjoy the series.

Pretty much what haunting heaven said. And, well, Edward is supposed to be this perfect guy, ANY decision he makes, we're supposed to agree with because he can't make a wrong choice. We're supposed to like that he'd rather pimp his wife out so she would remain human rather than have our protagonist have a baby that could completely brutalize her before killing her, even though she thinks of the baby as a pawn to get immortality.

I don't feel like giving out a long, detailed opinion so I'm just gonna be blunt and short.

Twilight has sparkly people, dumb teenage girls (and unfortunately, their mothers/grandmothers) love this s**t so much that they have to have it like crack cocaine.

It's so addicting that people constantly wonder on why it's so damn appealing; it's pretty obivous, considering the author even wonders the same damn thing. Why doesn't she realize that, I don't know, but honestly, the woman is just stupid and that's all I'm going to say about her.

Anywho, Twilight is just another marketing tool for the publishers (Little Brown, I'm lookin' at you) to make money and money creates power...and blah, blah.

Oh, and Vampires--oh my God gee-- Vampires are the essence of ~smexiness~ and adding the sparkling factor will intrigue young girls more into reading! It's absolutely perfect! biggrin (Bleh, I need a puke bag.)

And like haunting heaven said perfectly, it's a wish-fulliment. What can ya do? Every girl's dream to have some hot guy come into their lives and make everything better is the way to go. Successful marketing tool, yes, but pretty stupid because it's used all the time--even if the supernatural isn't involved. :/

Just sayin'.

Im wondering if these ditzy girls will ever grow out of it... If not I fear for their futures... O_o

Prodigal Mage

Uh, guys? Can we please lay off the Twilight fan bashing? Because if we want to talk about crazy obsessed and shallow fans, we could point to... well... pretty much anything. For example, I've actually encountered more craziness amongst the Supernatural fanbase than I have the Twilight fanbase. So it's really just silly to say that those who like Twilight like it because they're dumb or ditzy. :/

It is simply because it's too easy to understand. It's like watching pornography (and yes, Twilight is softcore porn in novel form) - it's addicting. The absence of plot and common sense proves this point brutally.

It's a soft-core romance novel. Simple as that.

More like a soft-core porn novel.
Proof that watching survivalist shows such as "Man vs. Wild" is a better way to pass the time. surprised

Romance novels are soft core erotica. I'm saying that Twilight is more soft core than the soft core. Remember dude, romance novels/ erotica are the accepted porn for women.

I have to disagree there, what little I've seen of "Man vs. Wild" was mind numbingly boring. I just can't care too much about a guy who goes into the wild with a camera crew to show the folks at home how to drink their own piss. Why not just find a better book?

In the West, it is very true.

It's just that, I found a playthrough for the game version and that made me interested in the show. Then again, playthrough > show > Twiseries

Here in the East, it's somewhat different.

Ah yes, I agree with you on that. Sadly, many TV shows and even some books are becoming mediocre. D:

Well, that explains the difference of views I suppose.

That one's because people are willing to settle for mediocre rather than demanding good or excellent.

Indeed, it does.

I am wondering why that's the case? If they wanted good books or TV shows, why then would they settle for mediocrity?
