Welcome to Gaia! ::

Um, I don't think that that's a fair comparison. You can't possibly compare Twilight to Bram Stoker's work on any level. First of all it was obviously targeted to different age groups and is of a different genre all together. In Bram Stoker's work you've got the first vampire. It's a classic in every way together with The Exorcist and Frankenstein (personal opinion). Twilight could hardly be considered horror - it's romantic and teen fantasy. Like I would never compare Edward Cullen to Anne Rice's Lestat ( heart ). They are both portrayed as vampires but are different in every single level, there is just no comparison.

As far as the extremist obsessed fans.. er.. I don't think I can comment to that, that's just wrong and sad..
Oh dear, I didnt expect that at all, but I guess it should have been expected. Honestly though...

Okay, well, I thought the books were rather good the first time I read them, but the more I thought about it, the more I discovered that there are indeed a lot of things wrong with it. For one, yes, Edward is a emotionally abusive boyfriend, pretty much anyway - you'll find a thread about that too - or at least mentally unstable. And Bella turns around the whole woman's rights thing (sufferage, right?) and heads back in history, becoming meek and, well, just does pretty much any darn thing Edward says - okay so she has bouts of rebellion but still acts as though Edward can dictate her actions. She has a sense of personality the first few books, but completely looses it the last book - in fact, the last book was just like a fanfiction. If I hadn't bought the darn thing, I would have thought it was another fanfiction.

So we move on to the movie. It was alright by adaption standards, although nowhere near what I would have liked. I sat there for most of the movie, scoffing (pretty much) and pointing out missing things (I do that...). I wish Robert Pattinson would just RELAX like he seemed to do for Harry Potter. Leer NOT appreciated. I guess it's the fandom that makes it a popular movie - it's not very deep, really, seems kind of superficial. Aren't movies supposed to have themes? Even adaptions? This movie doesnt seem to say much at all. (Blame the english class)

Ok, so I go Switzerland, and critic and fanwrite. I write fanfic but often it's just because a ready-made character is so much easier to use than making up your own. I love writing, but I need an audience too, so writing for a fandom is better than writing something noone's ever going to read...
Twilight is a great series I read the whole series in 4 days. It is an excellent modern day love story kind of a modern day Romeo and Juliet. You really should read it before you judge it.

I agree with you this is entirely different and needs to be based on its own merits
Hey, I thought it was great the first time I read it too, but after about a year, it just got a bit old.

You have to remember though, that in the end it's just a work of fiction and a fantasy - there arent vampires from what we know, even if you might want one to appear. So in that sense it isnt really a modern day love story at all.

Oh yea, and not really ike Romeo and Juliet either. That reference everyone gets from the book, but as one person pointed out, sure, it's about forbidden love and stuff, but the concept of star-crossed lovers is that they will not be able to end up together. That's not the case in Twilight.
I's just a romance story, in an obsessive kind of way. Some may find this offensive but I think it was probably one of the reasons why I appreciated the book so much more. I'm not going to go into too much detail but looking back now I could really relate to the story (except for the vampire part of course lol).
bla bla blabla bla bla bla bl abla bla bla bla
ok
THE MOVIE IS NOTHING LIKE THE BOOK
but its still a good movie...but from what i have read in twilight no its nothing like the movie what so ever...
I rather dislike it due to it's ghastly morals. Isn't Edward supposed to be like... 130? It's basically saying that it's alright to drop out of school and get impregnated underaged by an abusive old man, just because he looks young.

Thank you Stephanie Myer, thank you for setting such a bad example to the little girls and boys.

o__O People worship that book. Children aged 10/11 read that book. People have said it was supposed to be even good for "formering strong relationships between mother and child" *shudders* Critics have said that BD is kinda supporting teen pregancy. Ive heard of 15 year olds having children and naming them after Twilighter characters ._.
