I know the manga is being re-released, but I heard through the grapevine (not sure which!) that the anime would be re-released as well. That would be pretty awesome, assuming it doesn't consist of the exact same episodes I watched as a kid -- they BUTCHERED the series stressed What have YOU heard?

no one has officially announced they've licensed the anime in the US/Canada at this point (I hear it's been relicensed in Mexico, but that doesn't help anyone else) and it won't get reaired unless someone relicenses it. FUNimation has made it known in the past they're interested in getting the license and doing an unedited redub of the whole thing, including the final season, but so far they've appeared to not have actually managed to get the license for it.

Dang. Even the Phillipines have it on their TV again according to some tweets I saw on Twitter.

I hope Funimation considers redubbing it. Or anyone for that matter. I just want to see the anime back in America.

FUNimation HAS indicated more than once they want to license it and redub it... the problem is getting the license from Toei. getting Toei to agree to sell the license to them for a price they can afford and are willing to pay is the hardest part of getting the license.

there's no way to tell right now, because what channel would air it, or if it would air at all, would depend on who managed to get the license for it, as some companies that license anime tend to stick to certain broadcasters and some may even only exclusively deal with one broadcaster. with it currently being unlicensed in the US and Canada it could be almost any channel depending on who actually managed to get the license eventually (if that ever happens, Toei's been pulling their dog in the manger act long enough even with this 20th anniversary global revival I'm not especially hopeful we'll actually get it again here).

when the manga gets released doesn't necessarily have anything to do with when an anime will come out, especially if it's something that's been finished in Japan for YEARS. when you consider in most cases the company that releases the manga will be completely different from the one that will release an anime (IF both get released, as there's no guarantee that will necessarily happen) either could license either the anime or the manga whenever they feel like it (and whenever the copyright holder in Japan agrees to their offer, which is why it's been so long since it went OOP here and when it came back in print, neither Kadokawa or Toei wanted to sell anyone in North America the license). thus either could release it as soon after they licensed it as it took to get it ready to release.
