Welcome to Gaia! ::

I thought I'd try to make an appeal to the Gaians of...... Gaia biggrin Case Closed is an anime that made it's ENG dubbed debut back in....05 I think, and is just not being talked about, not being pushed. So, as a huge fan of this anime, I would like to ask you guys to check out the Case Closed Podcast by savecaseclosed. here's a link:

www.youtube.com/user/SaveCaseClosed

Now, I understand that some of you are skeptical about bringing an anime back, and I appreciate that type of feed, but you can give me bad feed on my channel at YouTube, not on the forum. That, I'm okay with wink

www.youtube.com/user/BEPplusSCC

So, feel free to ask me any and all questions you might have to do with the campaign and I'll do the honors of starting with a description.

Case Closed is a mystery genre anime that revolves around a Jimmy Kudo that was turned into a 6-year-old by a mysterious drug given to him by two men in black clothing. His plan to turn back to to locate those two men, who he find out later...ish that they are part of a big black organization. And to help him do that is to make his childhood best friend's father a top-notch detective despite the fact that Richard is....well, you get the point. rolleyes By the way, Jimmy's childhood friend and Richard's daughter is named Rachel Moore and is Jimmy's love interest, and Jimmy is Rachel's in return, but they never admit. big surprise xp

I hope you at least check out savecaseclosed's channel, it's worth checking out if you're a true anime fan.
Case closed needed to be a success in America for the dub to continue. It needed a TV deal, and that deal needed to be a success. That is part of the reason all the name changes were made, to make it more relatable to an American audience.

What killed Case Closed chances was how narror the choices of channels for anime on american Tv was. Adult Swim which sadly was the best choice was a horrible place for case closed. This show really needed a prime time airing, it needed to air along side other crime shows, but do to the American "opinion" on anime and animation in general that was not going to happen.

Case closed had no hope of being a success in America and that is sad.

Oh for the love of anime lol My apologies, I've heard that a dozen times XD Which I know isn't very much seeing how people, especially Gaians exaggerate to a million lol But I like to keep my posts real. I understand the skepticism, as I already previously stated, but I do insist on at least checking out the podcast. I mean, it can't hurt any and all support is appreciated. We are a small community, the savecaseclosed community, but I do believe we can MAYBE get it back, JUST MAYBE XD I'm sure as heck gonna try biggrin But thanks for the post nonetheless.
Dubbed? Screw dat, subbed is better. Case closed is huge in Japan, though

Dubbed? Screw dat, subbed is better. Case closed is huge in Japan, though

I am not denying the better nature of the sub, I just enjoy the dub very much too. But I will say this in a language you understand: "What's better? Screw dat, who cares?" But I do applaud your Kid outfit, even though mine's better ;p I used to have a moon too -_- I like the dub and I think it deserves another chance. But in the end, it truly is up to us fans. As it is explained in this video/podcast:

Yep your kid outfit's better :3 another reason why case closed wasn't huge here was the commercials. The first time I saw the commercial, I was like, "a little kid jumping onto a car hood while some guys shooting a gun? Next." good old days when case closed was actually dubbed.. emo I'm pretty sure we can get back, there are thousands of case closed fans everywhere. Maybe I could get a few people from fanfiction.net to do the campaign-thingy

Wow, I appreciate it. You're the second really favorable response I've gotten since I arrived in Gaia razz I have new inspiration to get the SCC campaign set up in Gaia ^_^ Well, YouTube is the place to be if you wanna send someone that way. At least until I get things together here. And I don't think I need to mention the idea of subscribing is a good one. To keep updated and a show of support. Oh, almost forgot! XD Thank you biggrin

I feel a little uneasy about responding about this on here due to the reaction this has gotten, but I appreciate what you're doing. The television episodes of Case Closed won't be dubbed by FUNimation anymore, this really isn't something that support will change, but I'm not going to argue about it if you feel like you still can, people should still watch it because it's good. Here's an advertisement I made back around the time it had it's last chance to produce results that you'll probably like.

xxxxPersonally, I agree with Creativerealms. [AS] wasn't the best place for Case Closed, even if it got me into the series. It is my all time favorite anime, but I’m not that big of a fan of the dub for several reasons.

I think that there are some things lost in translation with the dub. The name changes are one of my pet peeves. I don't really care about "Connecting to the American audience". The fact that Gosho Aoyama took the time to actually name almost all of his characters after a famous detective/characters or mystery author is amazing. But that is lost because of the name changes. Also, a bunch of the cases have to do with Japanese culture, which is probably why they didn’t dub beyond movie 6.

Funimation did a shitty job editing things too. Specifically, the opening sequences for the movies. Zooming in or freezing the screen just to get rid of some credits that would easily been edited.

All in all, I’m not too happy with the dub and the job Funi did with the series. I’m just glad that the manga is still being published, since I prefer the manga anyway, even if Viz still used the name changes.

I didn't really take it the OP was asking what you thought about the dub. Anyone who knows every single one of those details doesn't take those things as undeniable reasoning behind not liking the very watchable dub. It's like those list of edits have become some sort of thing to wave around as though the dub isn't about the voices. You should just say you don't like the voices, or at least say it's your personal annoyance that the names are different.

I did say that the name changes where one of my pet peeves. And yes, I didn't like a majority of the voices, but I didn't say that because I have a habit of saying that I don't like them and then end up tolerating them after a while.
Personally if they did decide to bring the dub back, I would love a re-dub.

You need to stick to the sub if you feel like you can't watch the dub without treading on it and compromising yourself. You also need to understand this isn't about anyone's decisions, until further notice it permanently lost all the chances it had despite how much they enjoyed dubbing it.
Something else I should have added before was, incase this isn't common knowledge, Funimation had nothing to do with the editing of the movies, those are the versions of the video that TMS directly gives them and there was nothing they could do about it.
Even if Case Closed did have a chance people need to understand its mistakes were far and few in the execution, it was entirely in how it was sold and just bad luck that caused its downfall. The product is solid. Personal preferences aside, of course.

Wow, I think that's the first explanation that I wasn't annoyed by lol Other than the first couple of course, and I have heard a LOT since then XD Well, but you know, we still are gonna try wink

Well, a lot of people will overreact to the voices of Detective Conan. Honestly, as far as Conan goes, I think the sub is too low, and the dub is too high lol The dub never really bothered me until I saw movie 3 lol Other than that, not really, if you wanna be like that ;p But awesome! emotion_awesome The dub, I think, was pretty good, and I think it should've continued, or at least get another shot.
