action figure you usually collect and never open them because they can be worth a lot of money, dolls are more for playing around with.

ACTION FIGURES- COLLECTING
DOLLS- PLAYING

hope this helped rofl

All of my "dolls" either have an obitsu bodies that fall apart easily, or have bad posability. My "action figures" have better posability and are all based on my favorite anime characters, unlike my dolls. I have way more "dolls" because they sell cheap barbies/bratz at target. I buy those more often, so i would consider myself a doll collector.

I collect dolls and play with action figures. and the other way around as well.

Action figures usually have some kind of weapon(s) for accessories. Dolls don't.

One of my "dolls" from azone came with a wand, a witch hat, cape, and glasses.

either way there made of plastic. It is possible to shave off a dolls hair and replace it with plastic hair. i dont know why anyone would do this, but would that make the doll an action figure?

Yes, they are bother plastic, but this is a starting rule of thumb. And yes, you can shave off hair and then mold hair. But that would not necessarily make a doll into an action figure.

There are no certainties or rules which make it an action figure or a doll. There are guide lines, but you can usually find a toy that breaks that rule.

A doll has fabric clothes and brushable hair.

An action figure is all plastic.

Of course, there are toys that don't fit in either category, and then you have to use your best judgment. It's no big deal, though.

I guess it's because you can change a dolls clothing and has hair so it can be combed and action figures are made of a solid material ( totally plastic) and are posable. 3nodding

traditionally people would think dolls were for girls because they were to dress up and comb hair over dolls.

action figures that have joints and movable poses were for boys.

It just depends on how you look at them, personally I was a tomboy and didn't play with dolls I preferred the action toys were you had them move with dolls they are restricted with their joints and don't move too much unless if you were talking about the ball jointed dolls.

nowadays you have action figures made for an anime nerd like me where there are figma's and nendoroids which can go to another whole subject that you're talking about.

I tried looking it up, but they just gave a bunch of examples of dolls and action figures. D:

Does anyone know the difference? and dont give me the "dolls are for girls. action figures are for boys" thing, because both genders can collect either one. And definately dont give me the "what do you think of when you hear the word doll? a barbie? what about action figure? GI-Joe?" that ive been getting for hours. I own toys that i think are action figures, and others that i think are dolls. I also get upset when people call my anime figurines "dolls" because there my alternative to bjds that i cant afford. I just want to make sure im labeling my toys correctly.
i know man people call my anime figurines dolls to and its sooo annoying! scream

Here's the difference:

Action figures are more targeted towards boys, although some girls like them.
Dolls are more targeted towards girls, although some boys like them.

REAL collectible action figures are to sit on a shelf.
REAL porcelain dolls are to sit on a shelf.
